Rye House V Redcar 30/7

Recommended Posts

Actually quite an entertaining meeting in the end. Credit to the family from Redcar in front of the refs box. Good fun.

We at last look like a team. Shame we could nt have started with this seven. Anders needs to gain match fitness but just his presence seems to ripple confidence. Eddie just class. Luke back to rye house form - a fitting tribute to his grandad. Steve seemed to switch bikes mid meeting and looked much faster. Can achieve anything on decent equipment. jG looking much more like his old self as does JB. Big welcome back to Oliver greenwood. He looked a great prospect when he guested at the end of last season and I was disappointed he was nt in the opening line up. Looks quality.

Lawson is as classy as Eddie . Skid more great if he made the gate. Wilkinson you could watch racing himself - poor though going back for afters on the starting Marshall. Graver son very brave carrying on after a potentially nasty crash.

Crowd every bit as good as a Saturday if not better.

Agree with Rockets. Enjoyed the meeting from a different vantage point right underneath the refs box. Some good racing with Luke's double pass being the highlight. Lots of laughter watching the efforts of Calamity Konopka. What on earth Redcar were thinking of bringing this joker over from Poland when there are young British lads looking for a team place? One of the biggest cheers of the night were when he completed four laps without falling. Pathetic effort.

The track held up pretty well considering half was baked in sunshine early on while the other half was in shade.

Like Rockets I too noticed that the team looked more perky tonight, the team changes look to have helped.

Just to agree with the others, an enjoyable meeting. I suspect Konopka just has a problem with the tight confines of Rye, otherwise I would also question the signing.

Its not just Rye House. He's crap. He's not even averaging 3. Yet they chose to sack a Brit once his average dropped from 7 to 3.

Should be Brits only in reserve. And before someone pipes up it's illegal - tell that to the EL!

The PL tried it in 2006, but the BSPA changed the rule half way through the season when Steve Boxall (Rye House) & Jon Armstrong (Mildenhall) were cleaning up at reserve.

Don't Poland have a similar rule, Poles only at reserve?

Redcar isn't a very big track itself, he's probably just awful. Outrageous that they dropped Crang to keep Konopka in the side, shouldn't be allowed.

He couldn't get round the tight confines of Brough Park either where Luke Crang had had actually looked quite promising

A sub 3 point average says it all. Did Redcar actually look at him before signing?

Thats the issue with ideas thought up quickly over a weekend on the booze! I remember at the time we all said it would happen. Maybe another solution is assessed riders cannot drop more than a point below their assessed figure - that was they get a chance to settle if their figure drops a little but no 7 pointers coming in and getting 3. Any less than 6 and Redcar would have been mad to keep him.

I used Redcar/Konupka but theres been plenty of examples. Kasper Lykke, Anders Thompson, a few at Berwick, Roland Benko. At least Plymouth finally replaced him with a young Brit.

Only til the averages change it seems, then he's back in at the expense of Shanes!

All in all a good night, seemed like a different attitude around the team. I hope this years failings are understood by the Promotion. Any quality side needs a decent number one and two very good reserves. Edward seems to be regaining his confidence and enjoying himself, JB has returned to reserve which is the right place for him to be and Oliver Greenwood continues to impress. Mr Silver in his programme notes bemoans the Footy World Cup, is everyone around him too scared to tell him the truth concerning a rubbish team, disjointed fixtures and the fact that his finger cannot be on the pulse of two tracks at the same time all being the real reasons for falling attendances

Was surprised at the crowd last night, much better than i would have expected from a mid week 7.30 start. Regular watering in the right parts of the track kept the inevitable dust down and also made for a consistent track for a change

The nonsense of our sport still continues to amaze me. On one hand we have been deprived the use of either a similar average guest or r/r for Matty T despite the fact that he has been competing in FIM ratified events and last night Mark Lemon who is away filling in a programme for Team Aussie the night after this meeting and they are able to cover with r/r.

Even at NL level have we ever had a rider fall six times in a meeting? Felt a bit sorry for the boy but is there really no British rider capable of doing a better job Mr Havelock?

The one is on Speedway World Cup duty. The other was riding around in a field as practice for riding around in a field. At least Mark Lemons job is in the same competition. That said, he could have flown back if he'd really wanted to be there.
