Plymouth V Somerset 26/7/14

Recommended Posts

He's taking his time then, seems to have gone backwards a bit from last year but he's at number 1 instead of 2,still only 19 don't forget, away teams form is a bit hit and miss

Trouble is it puts pressure on the rest of the team if one rider isn't going, and yet last year he was so good away from home

Did anyone go?

Devils 54-40 Rebels. Mr May sharpening his axe?

I did - in fact I went to both meetings.

OTA & SBA are two of my favourite tracks but neither was on top form although, to be fair, Somerset had a rain forecast (which did not materialise, it remained steaming hot) and the fire engine that waters the track at Plymouth broke down and was only repaired just before the start of the meeting.

The dirt line at Somerset was out on the fence for much of the meeting and prevented passing, while I will be getting Devon dust out of my hair for a week.

The matches weren't bad, though, although both teams massively held the advantage on their home track.

At SBA, best I have ever seen Newman ride - he never looked like being beaten. Superb team ride from Allen & Morris to shut out Barker, and a hissy fit from the Somerset no 1 after running a last in heat 5.

Good to hear Starke got fined for making no effort to clear the track in heat 4 :approve: .

One last point : Devils supporters can thank first bend Clive for Simota winning heat 7 and a 3-5 rather than an 1-8. He pointed out to Ashley Taylor that Somerset would use a TR and Ashley told Lee Trigger (at the time James Shanes was mounted and helmet on ready to come out). Change was then made.

An 8-1 might just have turned the tide in Rebels favour, and it shouldn't take a fan to tell the Plymouth team manager something like that.

Nick is working very hard to sort out a few issues, which are mainly because of a lack of confidence in his machinery. Its been back to basics but the light is at the end of the tunnel. New mechanic, investment in equipment, etc, etc.

Sorry to have missed you, HT - always enjoy a few words when you visit.

Funny old thing, we had worked out that the Rebels would be using B/W in Ht 7 and everyone in our group agreed that it was a shrewd move on the Devils manager's part to neutralise that with an on-fire Simota

Very interesting if true HT. I like Lee and generally always offer my support when others get on his back but if it took a fan to state the glaring obvious (I know a good few of us on the back straight were expecting the TR too) then this is a bit of a hiccup!

My fault, mate.

I did see you but was in the middle of a debate and forgot about coming over altogether.

Trigger not being on the ball?

Ive said that since he got the job in the first place.

Not the first time I have heard that opinion..............

The riders looked motivated to me,íf their not it effects the bank balance what more motivation do you need as for the reserve switch it was made no-one knows the the truth surrounding it are we now knocking the manager for a change that was made and worked deary me get a grip and try supporting the team and management instead of knocking it at every opportunity!

What I can say for certain is that Ashley Taylor was at the back of the first bend terracing chatting with a couple of fans there, including me. Clive pointed out to him that Somerset would almost certainly be putting a TR in and that Shanes should be replaced by Simota. Ashley went back to the pits where Shanes was on his bike with his helmet on ready to go.

It was only when Ashley got back to the pits that the change was made.

I suppose there is a possibility that Lee Trigger picked it up anyway, but I doubt it and it certainly didn't look like it.

I too have said for a couple of years he should be replaced. I put my views on the forum and quite a few people agreed with it, yet i got banned from the forum for not backing the manager. I pointed out several occasions were he had failed to make decisions in meetings which ultimately might have made a difference to the results. Fair enough for the first couple of years he was new to management and just learning the ropes but it appears that very little has changed.

I went to the match at the OTA. Plymouth fought hard initially and kept it close early on before the Rebels took control. Olly Allen looks sublime around his home track at the moment. Full of confidence and making very quick starts.

For the Devils, Barker was good value for money and always in the mix. Also impressed with Jensen who was very combative. Unfortunately apart from two fine rides by Newman, Plymouth had very little else to offer, especially in the latter stages.

I will stick my neck out and say Somerset won't be beaten at home this season. Good crowd, probably the best attendance (pairs meeting apart) of the season.

Obviously a different story the following day at the SBA!
