SCB
Maybe I should also add that if it was Woffinden, Holder, Doyle, Manzares, Covatti or virtually any other rider who endured what Ward did on Saturday I'd feel a bit of sympathy for any 'unprofessionalism' they subsequently showed. Whilst not exercising perfect control its maybe excusable under the circumstances as far as I'm concerned. There's been a lot worse behaviour on and off the track and it is rarely punished. Do you think 100s of people woke up one day and hated Darcy Ward and decided to give him a bit of stick? Or do you think Darcy Ward is a bit of a plonker and 100s of people have realised this and so have started giving him a bit of stick? jim3751
I see they were still advertising tickets for the British GP on the 12th July. Hope they're heavily discounted
Bostonian
Well.. Reading this thread from start to finish, great to see everyone's opinions and comments on our great victory yesterday. Firstly, I'm so pleased for steady and king that they performed to the potential.. A lot of haters not giving these guys a chance before they had chance to show what they could do. Onto the meeting.. What a fantastic day out and absolutely thrilled for Team GB. Not a better feeling that waving my British flag to our boys, who rode superbly well all night. I couldn't care less if the other teams were under strengthen or whatever, I went to watch a good meeting (which it was), to take in the atmosphere, and to cheer on my country. The passion I saw from all of them was even better, seeing the boys fist pumping the crowd and cheering as they did their lap of honour was fantastic! Got to hand it to rosco, seemed like he really got them all motivated! A massive well done to Kings Lynn and their staff.. Put on a slick evenings entertainment, the track was maybe a touch slick, but it stayed true and at the end of the day, it was prepared well, it's up to the riders to put on the show. You cant blame Buster for the fact that for half the meeting there were 2 races in 1.. A full dull races but it happens, not every race is an edge of the seat thriller I'm afraid. When Woffy is racing ruml and castanga say, it's hardly going to be 4 way battle for 4 laps! It's not just about the track but the stadium is perfect for such an event, not many other British stadiums could do the same IMO. If you watched it at home, and are moaning it was boring, then a little tip would be to save up next year and go! The atmosphere was superb, all in great spirits, and the noise and flag waving was great to be involved with. Watching it again today and it just didn't give it justic at all. The fact Ward became the pantomime villain helped too! Speedway needs that sometimes I think. Anything else in the final is a bonus, because as a down to earth fan, I know just reaching the final is good for GB. But I'm gonna enjoy the win last night all week. Come on GB for Saturday!!

Red Panda
Chip on your shoulder? Ward was an idiot on track and off track last night. Take your Aussie/Poole tinted glasses on. I was reading backtrack the other day, and I think it was Dugard or Havvy commented that go to Poland or Denmark and the home fans are passionate about their nations team, in this country (and I remember this at British finals at Cov back in the day when the yanks were good) that fans in this country seem happy to cheer their club riders over their nations riders. It was great to see Kings Lynn full of flag waving British fans last night.... but either way it does not take away the fact that Ward went back a couple of years to acting like a pathetic spoilt little brat. But then again, with so many Poole sycophants, what more can we expect? Well I must be in the minority of Poole fans who were actually there and saw what happened...........Yes Darcy got it wrong when he did what he did in heat 18............Mark Lemon's explanation was spot on..........from where I was sat on the end of the home straight as the evening got darker you could see someone with a red flashing light presumably from a camera and it not only caught out Darcy but Wells and Covatti too............ Why was the person not removed I do not know but as for acting like a spoilt brat no..........my question is if it was someone on Team GB would you all be saying the same thing.............of course not its only because its Darcy that you are............ Well done to team GB on a good solid all round performance...........take it on to Saturday and lets do it all again........... RP
g13webb
If there was nothing wrong with the track why could the World Champion and current GP leader not make an inch on a rookie Premier league rider (Manzares) Suppose if your happy with that quality of racing, then every things ok. Must admit I expected a lot more, maybe I expected too much ! Watching on TV it was pretty mundane ! There was nothing wrong with the track, it was perfect. Smooth, consistent, safe , It wasn't even Dusty in the hot weather, a perfect place to race. Not one rider voiced an adverse comment . Yet you, sitting at home, telling all and sundry, the track was rubbish. When I cant go to meeting, and have to watch them on the tele, all I can see is 4 riders going round a track. There is no atmosphere, no excitement, no banter, just four riders on the tele. It is be wrong to always blame the track when riders don't perform as you would have liked them too, probably you need to look at other aspects of the meeting as well before making these acquisations Probably, next time you might decide to go to these meeting and enjoy it like all the others that went., Joining in with the celebrations, waving the British flags and cheering on the home team.. or you might just stay at home and moan about it...... It was a Smashing Day

mdmc82
Red light or no red light, Darcys behaviour in parking on the track and then in the pits was a reaction of a total spoilt brat And yes if it was a gb rider i would say the same Completely agree. It wasn't just what happened on track (although dont think he would have liked that Harris was about to put team GB safely through to final by beating him) but also the way he behaved off track. Unfortunately this isn't the first and won't be the last time he shows his immaturity. Interesting how he becomes less popular every year
Gavan
So if we look at the meeting gb were eliminated in last year. An aussie team of ward doyle woodward and Batchelor - are you saying that the aussie team yesterday was weaker? Usa - three rider s same as yesterday. Latvia - admittedly stronger than italy Now team gb last year finished last against those opponents, yesterday tbey finished top. As for tai - I think most would agree he was riding better last year than this year. Fwiw, a lot of small things went gbs way yesterday, but you're just making yourself look more foolish than usual by refusing to acknowledge that yesterday represented a huge improvement on last year. mate you must realise by now that Starman doesnt post facts just rambles on and even when presented with the facts as myself and you just have we still wont get a reasoned response. The fact is GB didnt get lucky we beat 2 of the teams that beat us last year. Except this year we had a manager who could actually pick the right riders and motivate them. Come on Starman for once take your Poole hat off, stop making yourself look stupid, and admit Rosco has done better than Middlo. I wont hold my breath! RP Hell, No, I'm no Darcy hater, (Christ he even got down for a photo with my grandkids with that bad knee) but I understand the issue with the red-light. Darcy went about it all wrong. He should have finished that race and then brought it to the Ref attention and pinpointed where the problem was. In stopping the race he was wrong. If he had behaved professionally, probably the crowd would have thought differently then thinking it was just sour grapes of getting beaten. Like I say, I'm no Darcy hater, but he got it wrong big time, and for that, there no excuse.... Home rider or World Champion it would have made no difference. .. Didn't see that on TV but that's what riders did in the 60s when the riders were heros and the promoter in the double breasted suit was the big bad villain. TwoMinuteWarning
I must say it was good to see Ward showing a bit of anger and aggression on the track when things weren't going well, it shows just how much he cares about winning. Such an attitude creates champions. Too many riders are often content to gate second or third and just sit behind the leaders, waiting for them to make a mistake.
Daniel Smith
Regarding the red light on the camera. They may not have been aware that red lights are a distraction to the rider's but the 100's around them would. Why did nobody say anything to them?? Have to say from where I was I didn't even see the red light and it certainly never showed up on the TV either. Agree with what was said earlier, I think Darcy used it as an excuse to call a rerun as Harris had the beating of him

It was a Smashing Day I don't go to a speedway meeting just to wave a flag for 2 hours.I go to watch good racing, something this track didn't produce.Sorry I'm only calling it as it is ! sorry if it offends people. If you thought the racing was great then fine ! Problem is what I saw on Saturday wouldn't encourage me or others to go next year, this was an example why crowds are dropping in British speedway because the product they are watching is regularly not good enough.

keepturningleft
Amazing that no-one spotted the cone on the track. Whatever happened to nicely appointed centre greens? The place looked drab and industrial with that vast expanse of greyness in the middle.
bigcatdiary
Yes I also saw it on Facebook and the red light was very clear. On the meeting itself, it was very entertaining and I am really pleased GB won but I thought the racing was pretty poor if I am honest and having attended Lynn loads of times this isn't unusual at Saddlebow. But asking the question, why the World Champion couldn't pass Manzares... I believe Tai has been struggling on various British tracks all year, as his disappointing average suggests.
