kevcfc
Apparently the stand in doctor turned up without a trauma kit, although I'm also hearing he wasn't a trauma doctor at all. Pathetic.
screm
The next time we see a promotion coming out bleating about lack of support, maybe they can be pointed in the direction of this forum and some of the rubbish supporters of teams up and down the Country have to put up with.

cyclone
Very sad, but I would not be too quick to slag off the home Promotion, who probably made the stand in arrangements in good faith that the correct cover would be provided. Perhaps the normal track doc (is it still Butler ?) had input. Having been present when the Monarchs match at Worky was abandoned because for medical support problems, there does seem to be difficulties in Cumbria with this function.
screm
Not defending Workington here but at least the Sheffield fans got their money back un like Workington fans at Berwick recently........ Yes that's fair enough but there is a bit of difference between a meeting called off when the track is obviously wet and the situation we have at Workington today.
Lord Lucan
Workington Speedway is going through a very sticky patch at the moment and thing's like this are "just not" what the doctor ordered? I would have thought that, if Doc Butler wouldn't be in attendance this week then surely any other medico would have been advised as to what equipment he would need in order to officiate at the meeting? Who's responsibility that is is open to debate but this has all the hallmark's of a lack of communication between medical staff and medical staff and the club, I dont know how soon the medics need to be at the ground before the meeting starts but surely they must have a check list as to what is needed "prior" to the match starting so any shortfall's in equipment can be rectified!! Another wasted weekend and another fixture to add to the list, at this rate we will not even finish the season never mind qualify for any play off's, no match again nxt weekend so Scunny is next up on Aug 10th, after debacle's like this a fortnight between matches is going to do nothing whatsoever for the club's support?
spin king
Not defending Workington here but at least the Sheffield fans got their money back un like Workington fans at Berwick recently........ That is fine but what about the extra's that go with it, fuel and food etc. There will be Sheffield fans who will be well out of pocket. I do hope that the rumors that Worky wanted the meeting off are untrue as the sport does not need any further controversy, and to be fair I don't think that Laura Morgan and the team are better than that and I don't think that they are like that. But it would be interesting to hear what TaylorJ has to say on the matter as she is very good at condemning other promotions.
mrmiddlesbrough
Not defending Workington here but at least the Sheffield fans got their money back un like Workington fans at Berwick recently........ plus travelling expenses ? i very much doubt, its still a wasted day travelling
shazza13
listening to what Laura had to say and also being privvy to knowing one of the medical team every effort was made in trying to get the missing equipment so the meet could go ahead. so as far as worky wanting the meeting off try pulling another theory out of the air! spin king junior
Not defending Workington here but at least the Sheffield fans got their money back un like Workington fans at Berwick recently........ The situation is completely incomparable. That meeting today would have run with a bit of organization and professionalism, whereas Berwick was just unavoidable. Another day in which speedway simply looks amateur. This sort of stuff needs to be stomped out and quick. It's only going to push fans further away from the sport.
topaz325
I agre with you guys about fuel and other expenses , i was just trying to make the point about the inconsistentces of promoters regarding refunds when meetings are called off regardless of the reason and the illegalites of not paying refunds!! Maybe it would have been a good idea not to open the turnstiles if there was a risk of the meet not going ahead...... That is fine but what about the extra's that go with it, fuel and food etc. There will be Sheffield fans who will be well out of pocket. You're almost certainly right but the buck stops in one place only. Its very disappointing because I think the Workington promotion have tried really hard to up the game at Derwent Park. cityrebel
For the first time in over a decade I was up at worky for the recent Ipswich match. I was very impressed with the whole set up, the stadium was very smart and the track was well prepared. After the Edinburgh call off and today's fiasco, was I just lucky with my visit. No, I don't think you were. I think that those you went today and those who went against Edinburgh were unlucky. The problem is that one match lost like this is poor, two is a disaster. They have tried hard at Workington. Good track, good team, good presentation and at £14 for parking (if you are outside on the roadway) programme and entry is as cheap as most NL clubs and cheaper than any other PL one. It is a real shame that this has happened but, as I say, the buck stops in only one place. Edited July 27, 2014 by Halifaxtiger
kevcfc
Workington v Sheffield - Sunday 27th July - Official Statement WORKINGTON SPEEDWAY OFFICIAL STATEMENT It was with deep regret that this afternoon's planned Workington v Sheffield Premier League fixture had to be postponed due to unforeseen circumstances some 40 minutes after the scheduled start of the meeting. Shortly before the planned start time a crucial piece of medical equipment was found to be unavailable and, when numerous attempts to source a replacement item proved to be unsuccessful, the Workington promotion were left with no alternative but to regretfully postpone the meeting. Comets owner Laura Morgan said: This is an unprecedented situation that we found ourselves to be in shortly before the meeting and we can only apologise to the fans and riders of both Workington and Sheffield for the inconvenience caused. Many people made great efforts to remedy the situation but unfortunately we were unable to resolve the problem and when all avenues had been explored, and with rain starting to fall, we were left with no alternative but to call the meeting off. We would like to place on record our thanks to all spectators for their patience during the delay and their understanding of the situation and also to the riders and management of Sheffield Speedway for their co-operation during the delay. Naturally steps will be taken to ensure that this does not occur in the future, and I would like to remind everyone to retain their re-admission ticket to gain free admission at a future home meeting. Lord Lucan
Would have been handy to know exactly "what" this crucial piece of equipment was and it's trackside function? Feel sorry for the promotion as it always looks like they are having to make excuses for different failings caused by other constituent parts of the meeting? Sooner or later I am expecting to see a response that Workington Speedway has now paid for a fully equipped ambulance for it's own personal use and a load of spare medical equipment just in case the NHS/St John Ambulance happen to run out of, or, dont have access to it? Sounds like a sunday league football team turning up without their kit i thought this was a professional sport, why was it only discovered "shortly" before the start time? Because as I said earlier, what time do the medical staff turn up for the meeting? If the guy only turns up 1/2hr before and then goes about his check's, discovers he doesn't have what he should have, he inform's the promotion at that point then you only will have a short time to rectify the problem, it is obviously an important if, unknown to the public, piece of kit that clearly is not something readily available at short notice!! screm
Laura Morgan comes over has a decent person and I am sure she, along with the rest of the promotion at Workington will be gutted with todays events, sadly there is bound to be one or two fans who wont be there in future, something I`d imagine Workington Speedway can ill afford.
