Speedway World Cup Rules Thread

Recommended Posts

For anyone who is interested here are the full FIM world cup rules http://www.fim-live.com/fileadmin/alfresco/6550005_eng.pdf

Here are some of the main rules.

Matches over 20 heats-with first 16 programmed and 17-20 nominated.

Team manager to pick riders for last 4 heats-team in 4th place nominates first, then 3rd place, then 2nd and 1st.

If a match is rained off before 12 heats-it will be re-run. After 12 heats result can be declared.

If teams are tied in a meeting that has gone the full distance a run-off will be held(1 rider from each team).

When a team is 6 points behind the leading team a tactical substitute can be used-riders can only have 1 such ride.

When a team is 6 or more points behind the leading team a " tactical joker " can be played -points scored by the rider will be doubled. A team has only 1 joker to play and they cannot be used in heats 17-20.The joker can be a substitute rider or a programmed rider. A rider can only have 1 tactical OR Joker ride.

team managers have to nominate their line-ups and riding positions for the race-off and final no later than 30 minutes after practice has finished-so we can expect to know line-ups around 2pm uk time on Thursday July 31st for the race-off and around 5pm uk time on Friday 1st August for the final.

At least it`s not in the last 4 heats any longer.

Yes but its still a stupid rule. Best team doesn't win, team scoring most points doesn't win, riders deliberately throwing races so the opposition cannot use a joker. Rubbish..

Seeding the hosts to the final is also poor. A pure commercial move. It may work in Poland and would probably work in England but having the CZ's in the final last season was farcical.. That may also apply to the GB team too. Top 4 teams should contest the final.

Have you contradicted yourself there Marky (and maybe not realised it)

No. I knew what I meant even if others didn't have a clue.

Poorly worded. If one didn't know better one may have thought that the GB team were also seeded to the CZ final..it's arguably less ridiculous though than seeding the Czechs to a British staged final; so isn't totally without merit.... ;)

One apologises for one's poor phraseology. One will do better next time one adds a paragraph. ;)
