Wolverhampton 2015

Recommended Posts

At least with going into the season with such low expectations, any exciting action or a good run of form will be a surprising bonus.

Back on silencers he is comfortable and back at Monmore I still expect PK to score much better than most expect. If Thorssell can progress as hoped and the Pole turns out to me 75% as good as Pawlicki was we won't be too bad.

Lewis Blackbird could be a revelation.

We are lacking a second and third heat leader which will tell in the latter heats. And I'm already feeling sorry for Freddie and the burden he will have to carry away from home.

Well done Wolves for picking Ricky Wells over Ben Barker or Mads K.

The promotion should be praised for showing faith in riders who are committed to Wolves & for providing continuity for the fans.

Much better than teams chopped and changed with opportunistic journeymen each year.

Yes well done Wolves for picking the worst rider out of those 3.

TBF, while this looks like the worst team in the EL it's not like most seasons where a team looks crap, you know it's going to be crap and they stand no chance of being anything but crap. This tea, is just full of risks and if any of them step it up the team may no turn out too bad. If Wells steps up af a season or two of stagnating (don't forget, he's still only 23 amazingly), if Thorsell continues to improve and impress, if PK gets "it" back, if Musielak takes to British speedway then it's not a disaster. And in Musielak, Thorsell and Wells they have a very young middle order that could and should go on to be the backbone of any Wolves side for the next 10 years.

Plans of Woffy, Bentzon and Garrity. But they end up with Musielak, Wells and Bates. Things are grim in the black country :D

Last season the only real bright point was the entertainment and form of Piotr Pawlicki who averaged 7.92 from his meetings with Wolves but his rolling average finished on just 7.32. His season was of course only cut short due to the pressure of Leszno being in the play offs in Poland and Wolves not in the same position in Britain

While there was hopes he would return in 2015, he is still a reserve for Leszno and therefore very important member of their powerful looking squad with Pedersen, Sayfutdinov, THJ, Hampel, Shamek Pawlicki and Wolves new boy Museliak making an unbelievable team that don't want to miss out again.

At the age of 21, I have no doubt Piotr could easily return in 2016 but when he ruled out this season, it was hoped Tai Woffinden would go back on his plan of missing Britain and returning on an outstandingly low 7.03 average. This of course was not going to happen and with Lindgren, Museliak and Thorssell already signed it became a guessing game who could fill the last two places.

With Greg Hancock not having a Polish club it was hoped he would fancy a season in Britain instead and be joined by a low averaging second string but when he signed a deal with Rzeszow that dream was over

Bjarne Pedersen and Lasse Bjerre as a Danish double act could have been an option and while BP is looked at as a former number one, he still scores well and would have done a decent job as a second heat leader and Lasse Bjerre was outstanding last season for Wolves averaging 6.13 in his seven matches.

In the end no new faces were added and back has come club legend, Peter Karlsson and crowd favourite, Ricky Wells. Both are popular riders with the fans and as second strings they could be seen as great signings to support three heat leaders.

Trouble is that two of the three prosposed heat leaders are young 21 year olds who are now under extreme pressure to score points and back up the only one recognised heat leader of Fredrik Lindgren who returns on an 8.94 average obtained under a much easier format in 2013 and will do well to get anywhere near that in the new season.

A team based around old faces but Museliak is a great talent and I'm sure he will be a hit with the fans and score points, as long as they are not expecting him to be like Pawlicki ....... he is however a better rider than Jacob Thorssell or Oliver Berntzon so Wolves have a good signing in this lad who thankfully is 21 and no longer a reserve at Leszno

It does amuse me though how some Wolves fans love the signing of Thorssell... but are up in arms over the signing of Wells.

Newsflash... Wells was better than Thorssell last year.

Jacob Thorssell 6,24 (6.51) ...... home 7.08 (7.38) .... away 5.21 (5.43)

Ricky Wells 6.12 (6.57) ......... home 6.98 (7.53) .... away 5.19 (5.53)

Not much between them really and when Ricky was dropped, they both had virtually the same away averages and its only the rolling averages that seperates by 0.37 instead of 0.12 that they were different by in 2014.

Of course theres the option of Cradley taking over Wolves elite licence if things go bottom up.

Makes little difference to CVS having a finger in both pies,he knows he will get better crowds with the Heathens anyway.

God forbid if it ever comes to that, but stranger things have happened, and there is still no sign of Cradley getting anywhere near to finding a site in either Dudley or Sandwell.

Wolves will not be giving up their licence to anyone and should CVS ever decide to leave I am sure he would ensure the club carries on as it is under the new owners.

Good to see that Wolves have entered the Midland Developement League in 2015 at the last minute. Hopefully this will give Ashley Morris a chance to return after his injuries from last season.

Two possibly with Piotr Pawlicki and Tai Woffinden ........... and Jason Garrity ;)

Well I for one will pick and choose witch meetings I go to this season .

Must admit I felt uninspired by the announcement and seemed the safe option is preferred rather than one that might have given us more options (ie Kornieliussen).

No doubt Ricky will have a point to prove and its clear the management have given him clear expectations which, if unmatched, I can see the make or break year of Wells`s career at Wolves (much in the same way as Proctor last year).

Not only will a lot depend on Tobiasz but now we will need Ricky to step up to the plate in the way probably needed to to securearrow-10x10.png his place last season.

PK as a second string and Lewis (injuryarrow-10x10.png permitting) are our only big improvers from the line up so far.

A team built for home form I would imagine, but a couple of loses will see the terraces empty rather rapidly.

We have just got to get behind the team of commited riders. Who all want to ride for Wolves and wont turn up and go through the motions. We have had teams before like this and shocked a few and its a better team than last year where we were carrying riders. The reserves are stronger and Blackbird will have 7 rides. 😎😎😎

Precisely, except Wells rode more meetings in the top 3, so was the better rider as I said.

Ah, that'll be your Poole attitude - dump this year's rider & sign anyone "better" because winning's all that matters!

Not sure about winning but wouldn't mind the play offs once in a while.

Precisely, except Wells rode more meetings in the top 3, so was the better rider as I said.

So you don't believe that ultimately, Jacob will be the better rider?

Quite true and that is why many felt that Ricky was unlucky to lose his place last season as Jacob rode in just seven matches as a heat leader compared to twelve for Ricky.

Ricky was possibly more consistent away with fours and fives while Jacob had a few good and a few nightmares.

Basically you are looking at roughly ten points between them away from Monmore Green and much the same for PK and Tobiasz which leaves about 25 between Freddie and the reserves.

They have to be looking at ten points away at least and that is without dropping points at home which considering the teams already sorted is going to be hard to achieve

While the return of Freddie Lindgren was a vital signing the issue of Tai and Piotr were the key factors in assembling the best team possible.

With Jacob and Freddie sorted the main aim had to be getting a second heat leader to assist Freddie as he is going to find it hard to get anything like his starting average so a good heat leader was very important.

Tobiasz Musielak is a great signing but on a 6.50 average this would have meant the last place would have to have been a very low average rider.

With 12.31 left most of that was needed to get another top scorer in and had the rumours of Greg Hancock been true we would be looking at Wolves as potential title contenders. Even someone like Maciej Janowski or Peter Kildemand or even Shamek Pawlicki would have given them more top end power.

This is not saying any of these would be available but even Bjarne Pedersen was linked to Wolverhampton and is a consistent scorer as a heat leader even under the format used in 2014.

Peter Karlsson and Ricky Wells are decent second strings and under other circumstances they would be looked at as good signings as long as there was more strength at the top with Tai and Piotr

Add Musielak to those and you are looking at a more balanced team even if they have a lower combined average.

Yep.. but we could be sitting very pretty if both were to return in a season or two's time..

Jam tomorrow then. Wonder if CVS will accept entrance money to the same schedule?

You'll need to be right about 2017 ;)
