foreverblue
But Bates is six years younger. Think that might have come into the equation. Thats irrelevant, Bates falls off alot from what i've seen and its about next season not what he may be like in future years..
stevebrum
Providing he doesn't get injured. The only issue I have with Bates is I thought we were trying to win the 2015 EL. At least having won the U21 he won't need time to master the track. Thats the same for ALL of the 1st picked draft riders.
foreverblue
Great, so in 2020 Bates might be the better rider.but right now Starke is. So it's gone from Woffy, Berntzon and Garrity to Wells, Proctor and Starke and now it's Wells, Proctor and Bates. You'll be signing Stichauer and Sowka next week Its not a laughing matter!! Freddie has his work cut out!!
Tommy Sweetman
Think picking Bates over Starke was wrong, but the only way CVS and Adams can justify the decision is, can we really miss out on an 18 year old kid who has obviously got a bright future in the sport and someone who we can nuture into becoming a potential heat leader. I agree its all about now.But having Blackbird(who is 27)are they thinking along different lines to all of us in making this decision. mtommo
very odd decision not picking starke looks even worse when you think that lewis is coming back from a bad break and will take time to get up to speed and even worse when as other people have said he has gone to poole what a b$lls up but not surprised
BluPanther
Bates over Starke is a very strange choice. There should be an investigation and bank accounts scrutinised
JCookie
Can see the argument about the better rider for next year but lets be fair, other than a decent year at Somerset, Starke is pretty garbage. Bates will be around for a while and who knows, may be a Wolves rider for a while.
Wolfsbane
Thats the same for ALL of the 1st picked draft riders. Yeah Steve but with Blackbird & Starke, bearing in the struggles with guests for Ashley we had, if we have a injury we'd still have a strong hand at reserve. Bates doesn't strike me as that but hopefully the lad will prove me wrong.

Firstly in reply, i thought Starkie was holding his own for Brum at reserve in 2014, long term maybe Bates is the better prospect, on the night of the Under 21,s if you gated and rode the white line you won, josh did that and won. Personally CVS and PA have got it wrong, Blackbird and Starkie was the pairing, they know the Track, know each others riding style, Im sure Starkie aint bothered, but its Wolves who have lost out. T.N.T.
I watched the live feed on Twitter and was very pleased to see the first pick riders were ranked in order of their Premier League averages as it put Lewis Blackbird down to #7 even though he was a prolific scorer for Eastbourne scoring 140+15 points in just 15 meetings (72 rides) giving him an average of 7.78 (8.61). In the Premier League he scored 74+7 from just 10 meetings (45 rides) averaging 6.58 (7.20). So to get Lewis so early was a great deal and as things went with Lakeside protecting Adam Ellis it gave Wolves first pick in the Grade B list. So I too was expecting Paul Starke to be named as the second Wolves reserve and if not then maybe pinch Lewis Rose or James Sarjeant from under the noses of Kings Lynn and Coventry. ELITE LEAGUE Starke 81+10/61 = 5.31(5.97) Rose 96+20/84 = 4.57(5.52) Sarjeant 106+24 = 4.46(5.47) Bates 53+8/48 = 4.42(5.08) PREMIER LEAGUE Starke 49+13/38 = 5.16(6.53) Rose 56+11/51 = 4.39(5.25) Sarjeant never rode Bates 30+5/33 = 3.81(4.73) NATIONAL LEAGUE Paul Starke 109+7/43 = 10.14(10.79) Lewis Rose 36+4/14 = 10.29(11.43) James Sarjeant 52+0/23 = 9.04 Josh Bates 28+1/17 = 6.59(6.82) Paul Starke was unbeaten in the National League at Monmore Green and scored five maximums in just nine matches. There is no doubt Josh has some great potential but this is fast track and he is not an asset and in Paul Starke we had a rider who we know gets results now while Rose is the rider Kings Lynn fans really wanted to have back and Sarjeant has come on really good and finished the season in great form. So in my opinion we missed the trick of getting Starke but we have Josh Bates and I am sure the fans will be right behind him and he should be entertaining in his meetings. He also should progress well after riding for Sheffield on a big fast track and then Wolves being smaller and more technical. The fast track pairings overall looks a lot better now and the reserve heats are going to be a lot closer with the 16 riders that have been selected. 8.94 Fredrik Lindgren ? 6.25 Jacob Thorssell ? ? FTR Lewis Blackbird FTR Josh Bates Now all we have to do is persuade Tai (or another rider) to share the position with Piotr Pawlicki Edited November 27, 2014 by T.N.T.
fish keeper
I would like to see Piotr back if he could do a full season or job share with a rider who could match his scoring not sure who as Tai as said not coming back next season . superguest
Pretty sure the job share option is just for no.1 riders. Pawlicki would be great especially now hes seen most of the tracks and the lack of Woffy. However, we would be foolish to think he would do a full season. Has Mikkel Michelsen ruled himself out yet? Alongside PK and Schlein possibly. Edited November 27, 2014 by superguest
ShropWolf
PK would be great to take Josh under his wing you would see a difference.

Blackadder
The key to Bates having a good season is if Adams can stop him punching walls He only does it when being wound up by a certain Eastbourne rider, so, as things stand, is unlikely to take on a wall again. SteveLyric2
Very interestingly, Peter Adams comments on the Wolverhampton website have been changed and now there is no mention of 'shared team places' for Tai or anyone else!! I think someone may have dropped a.......................clanger?!
SCB
Its been stated elsewhere by officials at another club that there is no job share. More bullrubbish coming from Wolves then?
