Rob Lyon - Fair Play

Recommended Posts

I don't know Rob Lyon and I'm sure he is a very nice man, but either he has been misquoted in this weeks Star or he has a very strange idea of fair play.

He says, " I was dejected to see Kings Lynn lose all ten of the points gained against Birmingham this season, following Birmingham's financial collapse. I think it's a little unfair if I'm brutally honest it's not a level playing field because we've been there and done the job, and now were being punished for it."

So he thinks it would be fairer for the points to stand and for The Stars to have one extra points scoring match over Belle Vue, Poole and Coventry and Two extra matches over Leicester and Swindon, all of which had matches scheduled against The Brummies..

Not trying to deviate from the tragic happenings and demise of Birmingham Speedway, I can understand Rob's point of view in that, regards to the points that the Stars have had too lose. When Kings Lynn went away and won 30-60, it was a terrific achievement by all the team . Other teams have since rode at Perry Bar and not achieved that success that Lynn did. But now, like Rob said it seems abit unfair that those scores have been removed from the league fixtures.

Don't for one moment think, Rob meant any malaise in his comments, and was only referring to only those instances. Rob is as devastated as anyone that Birmingham Speedway have folded.

Please don't make this into something it's not................

I don't think it's fair either............to give some cock and bull story (July 31st 2013) about having to cancel a meeting due to 'electrical problems'; which turned out to be nothing more than a blown fuse. But Hey Ho....Chapman and Lyon got away with it.

Quite honestly, I'm appalled at Lyon's scant disregard for Birmingham's predicament by these comments. And if Jon Cook or Neil Vatcher stated similar about us losing 7 points, I'd be utterly disgusted with my clubs' promotion.

And as for your comment "Rob is as devastated as anyone that Birmingham has folded". In all honesty, your words to defend him have about as much depth as a grain of sand.

The bigger problem is that clubs have gone to Brum and paid out big poinjts money to their riders(and in the chase of KL and Lakeside VERY big points money ) and now see little prospect of getting any of it back from Alan Phillips, who seems to have treated payments to visiting teams in much the same way as he treated payments to his landlords and payment of most other bills.

The rest of it is just another Rob Lyon rant. Always moaning about something.

Totally agree with all that post especially Rob Lyon moaning who seems to think more of himself than even Rosco does.

Talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill regarding Rods comments on the loss of 10 points - can totally understand Robs feelings on losing 10 points and of course he didn't want Brum or any other club to close . But people sure are blowing Robs words up out of proportion . But that more or less the norm on here .

He had no real point in saying it though really did he?.

Just to add that I don't think the irony of a supporter of a club run by Jon Cook commenting on somebody else being a moaner will be lost on too many reading this thread.

Jon Cook is in the same position as Rob Lyon , having lost 10 league points and a lot of money as a result of Brum's demise but unlike Rob Lyon he did not go bleating to Speedway Star it.

as much as this thread is pointless also . I'd have thought any team manager who's team had just lost 10 points would be just a tad peed off but perhaps it's just me .

As I say pointless thread

Not this issue perhaps, plenty of others over the years though. The tacticals / getting three points for winning at home whatever the score bleat being the latest.

FWIW I think Rob has got this one badly wrong.

Nothing from Lakeside who also lost 10 points?.

Possibly because he wasn't asked the same question by the SS.

Not trying to defend anyone here but it is very easy to quote certain words from someone's answers to enhance a story or make it more

controversial. It's more than possible that Lyon went on to say how sad he was for Brum but that got cut because of space issues.

If he did say exactly what is quoted then he was totally out of order.

I take most things I read in most of the media with.a massive pinch of salt and cannot believe that anyone thinks they print the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

How many years do you want to go back to make your point stick ? Whether you agree with Jon Cook or not there are a lot of fans in speedway, probably the majority that hate the TR rule and Cook was simply articulating their view. Same with getting three points for a home win, whether you agree with him or not there is a fair body of opinion amongst the fans that support that view. There is probably nobody in the whole of speedway that supports Rob Lyons tantrum.

Speedway Star does have a bit of form in blowing things up out of all proportion I must admit.

If what Peter Adams said tonight is correct, then there could be some team changes coming up. He said that the August averages will be recalculated without points scored in Birmingham matches which I think is a first. I'm guessing that a lot of averages will drop and the ex-Birmingham riders will return to their final 2013 averages.
