Chris Hutcheson
He may be 27, but only five years into a speedway career! He will step up(In my opinion) but recent events at the GP Qualifier and Cardiff show that he isn't quite there... yet. OK, He won't have a Hancock length of career at the top, but he'll be a hell of a lot closer than I'll ever be!

screm
At the age of 27 he needs to do it soon, but i'm not convinced he ever will. Some folk are just happy to be big fish in little ponds... Cook will need to make a few decisions at the end of the season, if he wants to further his career and become the best rider he can be he needs to move away from the PL and get into Poland and/or Sweden. If he wants to pick up relatively easy money for the next few years then he continue in the PL for Edinburgh and have a doubling up team in the EL.
Fromafar
I think that's a pretty odd comment to make. A certain British rider comes to mind, some great rides but overall a bit crap when it came to the big boys. A lot of people didn't think he'd ever get any better and that a Premier League number 1 would be his highest achievement. I believe he is now world champion and currently defending his title rather well?I don't think many true speedway fans would reckon that Woffenden would only reach Premier League level ,the guy was a class from the minute he started racing in Britain and stylish and safe.As for Cook I am of the opinion that he will never be GP regular (only my opinion) and if he proves me wrong I will take my hat off to him as it's nothing personal. MD
Will Edinburgh accomodate an 11 point rider every season? He's a great rider who needs to make the move abroad. He has seemed overawed in the EL matches I have seen him in by some of the riders around him. Perhaps its not bikes but psychological and he needs a top rider to guide him to the next level. TheScotsman
I think he has said previously he needs a good coach and advice on setups etc. He is a very smooth rider, not like some who think they have to throw lockers on every bend. Smooth can mean very fast but his gating has been pretty patchy this season, though it has improved his overtaking!
Bagpuss
Hmmm a thinly veiled snipe at Stead there. Cook is the better prospect of the two but his lack of big track pedigree has cost him his SWC place unfortunately. I know he wanted to get some finances in place before venturing abroad but I just feel Cook has wasted this year in terms if his development by sticking to the UK on two small tracks. Hopefully it won't do him any long term damage. Edited July 22, 2014 by Gordon Bennett
Gavan
Are you there Settings? Just waiting for you to discuss with fromafar and Gordon Bennett who also think that Cooks career has stalled a bit this season and might never make a gp rider? These are called opinions mate. Even Edinburgh fans who dont agree like Dale Diver and The Scotsman know how to actually answer back with a reasonable debate and discussion without resorting to insults like you did. I know he wanted to get some finances in place before venturing abroad but I just feel Cook has wasted this year in terms if his development by sticking to the UK on two small tracks. Hopefully it won't do him any long term damage. Wasn't actually aimed at Steady but now you come to mention it...........!! There are a few others like it though. I'm not too sure why people keep coming up with this lack of big track experience blah blah. He spent a fair while at Worky which is longer than anything in the EL and goes well at Berwick, which is longer still, and goes well at Sheffield too. He rode very well at Peterborough on Sunday and also there last year in the 4's. He also had a good meeting at Lynn when he was last there. So he certainly can ride the big uns. His least effective track is probably Swindon which is not ideal when their boss is picking the GB team. I would have to confess that I don't think Cookie has kicked on this season as much as I would have expected but I think a lot of that has been down to his more inconsistent gating. However I don't think that means his career has stalled, it's just consolidating, Doesn't do him any harm having to do a bit more overtaking either. But it does suggest he may be needing some advice and guidance to help get to the next level (some more sponsorship would obviously help too!!). I don't know whether Cookie will ever become a regular on the GP circuit. However that is a pretty seriously high standard to reach and there are a hell of a lot of very good riders who haven't made it there Doesn't mean there isn't still a lot more improvement waiting to happen for him though. Bear in mind he hasn't really been riding that long - about 5 and a half years. I tend to agree that a spell at one of the bigger tracks again next season wouldn't do him any harm. Gavan
Well said Gavan. The only problem is, you are the most insulting person I have come across on here, so it totally defeats your point. really? you dont read a lot of posts on this forum then! try the Poole threads i called someone a numpty on here once and got banned its quite sad but there a re a lot of people who can dish it out but not take it back. I also told someone to grow up a bit and if your offended by that its a bit sad. Settings called me an idiot. doesnt bother me but why do it? Then again if it was a Poole thread someone would have gone to the mods by now lol
Bagpuss
TheScotsman - I don't think being good round Berwick & Workington will have come into Rosco's thoughts at all, as Cook scores big points everywhere in the PL anyway. You can understand his loyalty to Belle Vue but a year at Swindon or Lynn plus weekly racing in the Polish second division and the odd Swedish meeting for example would have done him the power of good. The problem is he has stagnated a bit because he couldn't really improve in the PL and life has become harder in the EL due to the format which helps explain his poor away scores. I think he has a fair bit of improvement in him and he'll be back at Cardiff in the futuredoing much better but if he is sserious about SWC and SGP he needs to get better on the big fast wide tracks. TheScotsman
Maybe a lower EL average will help get him a place abroad!! But he certainly needs more finance to do it.

Then again if it was a Poole thread someone would have gone to the mods by now lol I don't read the EL threads as it is of no interest to me.When I first came back on after years away, I tried to make a joke, and you had a right go. Does nobody have a sense of humour anymore? It might not have been your cup of tea, but no need for the abuse. Whenever somebody disagrees with you, it makes them an idiot in your eyes, surely everyone is entitled to their opinion? The joke I tried to make was along the lines of a comment made by one of Celtic's 9 in a row winning team from the. 60's and. 70's when asked if their team was better than the Ranger's. 9 in a row winning team from 20 years later. ( just after Rangers had won their 9th title) He replied it would be a close match, but most of the Celtic players were in their 50's now!!! I remember getting into a debate with a Glasgow fan called Rod, and got a warning for saying "Rodney you plonker" which I thought was a bit ott . TheScotsman
What more is there to say? You deservedly won. We deservedly lost. Track wasn't great - should it not have been the first match on, rather than after nearly 20 races? Weather was spectacular. And there was No fish & chip van (fitting I suppose with The Fish being injured.) There ya go.
