Best Track In England?

Recommended Posts

TBF, the OP does raise a fair and valid point. Kings Lynn has gone crap this season. Probably 6 or 7 meetings I've seen from there now on Sky or Bet365 and they've all been rubbish.

To be fair, there was more passing after the 1st 2nd bend than what Leicester has seen all season. Speedway Updates give a fair indication of that. Good racing isn't always about a pass. Chasing back wheels is as good as a pass and their was plenty of that last night with quality defending from the guys in front. Chase a back wheel round Leicester and you'll crash.

This place gets more bonkers every day and we can say with some conviction that the lunatics really have taken over the asylum

But that wasn't the point being made. This latest incarnation of KKS was in some way trying to imply that a poor meeting at Kings Lynn must mean Leicester is not a bad track.

The match I saw there was pretty dreadful (before GB says it, the company was not).

Where tracks are concerned, three of the best meetings I have seen have been at Glasgow, Belle Vue & Redcar. In all three cases the racing was good but what greatly enhanced them as a spectacle was that the scores were close.

That's not saying much. Leicester's deserved reputation is an awful one.

Chasing back wheels is as good as a pass if you know there is at least a chance of passing. If there isn't, its not much better than them being strung out.

Can there really be a best track?.you get tracks like Lakeside & Peterborough, both good tracks, but they require a different riding style .Some riders go well round one but not the other,so if you like a flat out kind of track or a demanding technical track you would have to pick different tracks? So it really depends on the type of racing you prefer, and never the twain shall meet!

I suggested on the latest Lynn meeting thread that it may be time for Buster to consider shortening and widening the Lynn track making it a bit more circular. For me Lynn and other tracks with long straights have suffered in recent years from bikes getting quicker and consequently riders being more and more strung out. The dirt used at Lynn doesn't help either as it hurts and slows down chasing riders when sprayed by the bloke in front. Edited by Gordon Bennett

They do but it doesn't eliminate spray, just reduces the height and range of it. Still enough to pelt a rider close behind and the heavy, clay like characteristics of Lynn's muck means it can really slow down those affected.

Bset track is open to huge debate.

People think that fast means best? Not always the case, ive seen some shocking meetings at Peterborough and Lynn and Sheffield for example.

I know for 100% fact that Mark Loram hated riding Peterboroughs track but loved Pooles back in the day and Lakesides as well.

A lot is down to preperation as we know now that Pooles track is garbage compared to what it was in the late 90's early 00's

Best track for passing and sheer entertainment from the riders has to be Scunthorpe. Best track for facilities?- all depends what you want, keep your carvery, inside viewing etc, I go for the racing and like the smell of methanol and taste of shale.
