Half Price Admission For Away Season Ticket Holders?

Recommended Posts

I see both Cradley and Wolves have offered Birmingham Season Ticket Holders free admission to Heathens and Wolves home meetings for the rest of the season. A great gesture by all concerned and I'm sure nobody will begrudge them that after what they have been through.

It got me thinking.

With the sport in the state it is in with dwindling crowds during the current recession (in spite of the good news the Govt keep pouring out) how about offering a concession to away season ticket holders. Gate prices these days are one of the things keeping the crowds (especially families) away. Once you factor in petrol and food, travelling a long distance must put many off, especially if the weather is dodgy.

How about it? Half price admission for away season ticket holders? They are the ones who support the sport by paying up front so why not give a bit back and encourage more of them to travel and support their team. It would certainly improve the atmosphere if a few more away fans turned up.

Everybody wins.

What do you thinkl?

Any season ticket holder gets into Coventry and Peterborough for £10 I believe. It would be nice if all clubs could agree to do something similar though. That said, I think it excludes seasons tickets for the club who are the away team that night - so only any good if you're a neutral.

Thanks SCB.

That's good to know but, in a way, it indicates all that's wrong with the promotion of the sport these days because I didn't even know about it and if I didn't then there are plenty more who don't either and that is preventing the Clubs getting a bit of additional revenue! Crazy.

I think that a number of clubs offer reduced admission to away season ticket holders but not when it is their own team that are the visitors!

Close to pointless IMO.

Back in the late 80's, the southern teams in the National League all worked together. They shared the cost of a full page advert in speedway star, and all the tracks offered reduced admission to season ticket holders from the others.

17th March Press Release

COVENTRY and Peterborough are delighted to announce a major joint Ticket Buster promotion – which allows £10 admission for season ticket holders of every Elite and Premier League club at the two venues.

The offer applies to any Elite (Coventry) or Premier League (Peterborough) fixture at either track, and admission will be available at £10 for any season-ticket holder of a club not involved in the meeting in question.

This means, for example, that a Bees season-ticket holder can visit the Showground and see any league fixture, primarily staged on Tuesdays, for £10 – whilst Panthers season-ticket holders can also get a fix of Elite League racing at Brandon, generally on Fridays, also for £10.

American star Ryan Fisher races for both teams, whilst Coventry Storm’s Oliver Greenwood and club asset Joe Jacobs line up at reserve for the Panthers, and Peterborough asset Hans Andersen is the Coventry senior No.1.

The offer is extended to season ticket holders of all other Elite and Premier League clubs, except when their own club visits the venue in question.

Promoter Mick Horton said: “I know a similar scheme has operated before between tracks at Premier League level, and with my involvement at two clubs it gives us the chance for some crossover promotions.

“I’m sure some Coventry fans would like to check the progress of their club assets racing in the Premier League, and likewise there will be supporters at Peterborough who would like to still see some live Elite League racing.

“It then seemed sensible that we extend that offer across the top two leagues, so the message is that neutral supporters who fancy a night out at either venue are more than welcome.”

All £10 admissions must be accompanied by the holder’s season ticket, which are not transferable for any event.

I applaud Coventry for a pretty decent offer and hopefully it will encourage the affected people to visit Coventry next year too

My club Rye House don't offer a season ticket and i doubt they ever will. That said i emailed Jon Cook at Lakeside and asked would it ever be possible to purchase a block of vouchers for any BSPA venue and get say a ten percent discount. For example I buy £200 voucher use it at Lakeside one week and they take their admission fees of £17 less ten person off the voucher value. The following week i attend Rye House and they take their fee of £16 less ten percent. The benefits would be i get a cheaper admission the BSPA are guaranteed that i have to spend a set amount of money which they would have up front these could be stored on a credit card type of card and would be easily accessible at both tracks as they used credit card machines. The BSPA could sell them via their website or at participating tracks. I thought it was a good idea, there maybe a hundred reasons why it wouldn't work but at the very least i thought i would get a response as Mr Cook is on the Management committee. Well that was last year and of course i didn't get any sort of response, typical i suppose. When Graham Drury was in charge at Birmingham i emailed him twice and both times got same day replies. No wonder Birmingham got stuffed when he walked away

But why would you go when your team is NOT there?

Because Speedway doesn't have anywhere near as many supporters that it thinks it has because many fans are speedway fans, i attend regularly at Ipswich Kent Lakeside Eastbourne and as many others that i can and it has nothing to do with my team Rye House being there or not and guess what, i am far from being alone as i see the same old faces at many venues.

But you are going to go anyway regardless of any discount. So why would they lose money? Its the "normal" supporter that this offer would help but those are the one s the promotion dont care about so why bother?

For me i can get to the likes of Eastbourne, Coventry, Peterborough, Rye House, Mildenhall and Kings Lynn within 2 hours but have not been to an away match in years, Why? Value for money which currently speedway does not offer, time you take into account of fuel and entry. If a season ticket for Ipswich were to offer me discount to when the Witches rode at a track eg £10 then yes it would be much better proposition.

When I used to go to speedway I would quite often go to various tracks if there was a decent looking meeting on or a rider I wanted to see....I could easily finish work and drive to Wolves on a Monday for instance...not much more than an hour.....

I have never understood that a fan would ONLY want to see their own team and have no interest in seeing anything else.....I think I was always more interested in good meetings and certain riders round the country than the team as a whole, but I suspect I was in a minority with that

But why would you go when your team is NOT there?

I used to attend meetings all year round that did not involve the team I supported. Sometimes a rider associated with my team was there sometimes it was nothing more than a long weekend of speedway somewhere else.

It was called being a speedway supporter in my day.

I have no idea if that concept still exists but back then it was very popular.

Now with high costs and weak teams it's probably not as attractive as it once was but I travelled the length and breadth to watch speedway regularly utilising every night of the week and at weekends and would regularly see several meetings a week.

I'm sure at one time there was a reciprocal deal between some of the northern teams , personally I think it's a win win situation I've always said that a full stadium paying half price is better than a hall full one paying full price , a chance of a discount might encourage folks to travel , as the saying goes " every little helps "

But why would you go when your team is NOT there?

I've always enjoyed traveling to other local tracks to take in what looks like a good meeting , good speedway is always worth watching no mater who's taking part

I'd go with the original idea from Ommer Man - half price admission for season ticket holders.

No matter the away team at the meeting.

Might even encourage a few more to buy season tickets at their own track.

Worth a try me thinks, what have promoters got to lose? Even just for a month or twos trial.

That suggestion does have merit.

If only one person turns up and pays half price - it's still more money than if they had not come at all for the Promotion.

So let's check this out ......

I'm a Plymouth season ticket holder and will be going to the Rebels v Sheffield meeting on Tues 29th. Can anyone please tell me if I'll get a discount from the Rebels promotion on production of my Devil's season ticket?
