Crump99
To be fair the forecast all week has been for storms today. Looks like the forecasters got it wrong. I agree, it sounds fair enough to me! "Of the Peterborough match, which was called off early on Saturday (July 19) at 11am but saw beautiful, sunny weather later that evening, Silver commented: “I make no bones about the fact that the weather was only half the reason for cancelling. “It was a terrible forecast there’s no doubt about that and it’s turned out to be false. “But I really didn’t want to run any more matches with our existing side until I’d got Mellgren and Greenwood in. “If the weather forecast had been good I would have run the meeting no matter what. “I had a forecast of 60 per cent chance of heavy thunderstorms from 11am to 9pm all over Hertfordshire and I had to take notice of that. “Because apart from the impact on the track itself, that’s never really the point. “If it’s raining all around us nobody comes to watch and we cannot afford to run a meeting in front of an empty stadium.” harlowstar

Today's was changing throughout the day. Surely it would be worth waiting until around 4pm before making a decision. By mid afternoon the Met Office forecast was favourable.
WembleyLion
If you make little effort to run Speedway then do not expect the fans to bother that much either - reaping what you sow.
Rayleigh
Maybe Lukes testimonial was more important than at first thought as Len had ample proof from the size of thegate last week that the Rye fans still fans are run out of patience with the current "team" and when in Lens world greenbacks have always talked loudly. Now looking forward to the Redcar meeting,.
cityrebel
The madness of uncle Len saved me having to make a decision, so I went to eastbourne and enjoyed an excellent meeting on a much improved Arlington track. Thanks Len!

Surely it would be worth waiting until around 4pm before making a decision. By mid afternoon the Met Office forecast was favourable. 4 o clock would have been fine by me as I live locally but a lot of the riders travel a fair distance & get to the track a lot earlier than most of us fans. Any call off has to have that in mind. However, in fairness to Len, he has been honest enough in his press statement that the forecast was only part of his reasoning. Lord Skid
So he cancelled a fixture because he didn't like the team he was putting out. What a joke, The Panthers should be given the win and Rye House should be fined. And have to pay the riders for 15, 5-0's, not a very nice thought. westhamboy66
If you make little effort to run Speedway then do not expect the fans to bother that much either - reaping what you sow. so its better for fans to turn up, pay to get in then have the meeting postponed just before the start wasting everybody's money. I used to attend around eighty meetings a year now its down to sixty. The reason ....because too many times in the past at places like Peterborough and Kings Lynn I have paid my money to get in and been shocked at the state of the track knowing full well the meeting would never be on and was let in just to get my money. So now if there is a dodgy forecast i won't go simply because their are some unscrupulous Promoters that have the fans over, that said i trust the likes of Eastbourne Rye and Lakeside my most local tracks to make an honest decision. Why should Len Silver throw money away when there is a high possibility of a postponement. If he did what all the whiners wanted the club would be bankrupt and go the same way as Birmingham Forecasts can be hit and miss. Today's was changing throughout the day. Surely it would be worth waiting until around 4pm before making a decision. By mid afternoon the Met Office forecast was favourable. Ordinarily i would agree but this was slightly different. The size of the storms we suffered would easily wipe out a meeting. whilst they were few and far between the downpours were heavy enough to cause localised flooding. the Forecasts were more favourable but since when are they even 50% right? At 4PM all of the riders would have been on the way and gone are the days when nearly all of the fourteen riders would be living within a couple of hours travel.think he got it right even though he got it wrong if you know what i mean

Let's just hope that the weather will allow us to see the Re-vamped Team in action and put the disappointment of rain offs and indifferent results behind us. Shadders
Whilst I agree with JmeRay & WHB, I'm wondering if the decision to call off would've been different had we been in a favourable position in the league with a full strength team in tip top form.

If he did what all the whiners wanted the club would be bankrupt and go the same way as Birmingham I don't actually disagree with most of what you say and there are certain tracks I avoid if there is any chance of a spit of rain. These promotions do a lot of damage to their businesses but I also believe Len doesn't help his own business either. He has certainly helped to convert me from a regular to an occasional visitor at a time when my attendance at Speedway overall has not declined (usually about 80 meetings a year). I just go tend to go to tracks where I feel some effort will be put into getting a meeting on.
