Swift Saint
URGENT PRESS RELEASE FROM STOKE SPEEDWAY BEN WILSON RETURNS TO SHEFFIELD Stoke Potters have been rocked by the news that Ben Wilson, who has been such a successful part of the Potters’ revival in 2014, has been recalled to ride in the Premier League by his parent Club Sheffield. Whilst this is a very clear indication of the way that Wilson has ridden for Stoke this season the existing doubling up rules do not allow him to ride for Stoke as well as Sheffield and Stoke have been forced to mount an extensive search for an appropriate replacement. “We are devastated and disappointed, said Stoke Promoter Dave Tattum having been assured by Ben that he would be at Stoke for a full season. Never the less he has served us very well and it would be churlish not to wish him the best of luck and thank him for his services although the situation leaves us with the acute problem of finding a replacement. We have launched a search for a replacement and hope that will prove fruitful. In the meantime we have been given a 28 day facility to cover for him initially using Rider Replacement and with the strength and form of the rest of the team it is certainly a help. added Tattum. The Potters are at home to Kings Lynn on Saturday evening (7.00 pm) and are hoping to receive medical clearance from the Speedway Control Bureau to include James McBain at reserve after the injuries he suffered six weeks ago. “James feels more than ready to return and that will provide us with a big boost in the present circumstances. said Stoke Team Manager Malcolm Vasey. We need every point that we can get against Kings Lynn to make sure we remain in contention for the Play-Offs and James presence in the team would be a massive help. trophykid
That's a real shame for the Potters, but good luck to Ben too. Who would be the likely contenders to replace Ben?
greyhoundp
Likely contenders, I'm struggling to think of any, unless there is someone out their thinking of making a comeback.

greyhoundp
I think Stoke will take their time with Bens replacement whilst they have this facility available, Kyle Hughes who is motivated (yes) the Kyle of the last few years No. I was thinking more in line with someone like Birkenshaw, Allott or a rider of that ilk. semion
Why would Stoke be "rocked" by the news. There was always the chance that a rider of Wilsons ability would find a home back in the Premier League. Maybe Stoke tthought he would be an undercover success and no one would notice. Wilson is far too good a rider to be riding in what should really be a development League. Can Stoke not Just put Mcbain in the main body of the team and keep Kirby in at reserve ?
Ommer Mon
I think it's a great shame that Stoke are robbed of such a talented rider when their season was looking so promising. So what exactly is stopping him from doubling up with Sheffield? It seems that we have double ups and treble ups all over the place, what is so unusual about this one? waco
The rules are an ass......., Cradley can have 4 riders over 8 point averages 2 of them over 10,,two reserve s one on a 6+,the other on a 5+ ave But Stoke cant have Ben Wilson doubling down,,Here at Kent we have had to drop Chessle to bring Compton back in after injury to comply with the points limit,,,so what im saying is no team can strenghten up ,,but its all right for Cradley to continue with what is virtually a Premier league side ..... Then there is Scunthorpe with a team of 3 pointer s doing real damage to other clubs gates when they visit .. The League s becoming a total nonsense..There rant over.... So what do we suggest Cradley do waco ? Drpp riders every month to comply with the points limit and then the other teams can strengthen up. All the big hitters in the NL Coventry, Mildenhall, and Kent could have signed Starke, Williamson or Philips, and Probably Worrall, that none of them were signed by other teams is those Teams problem not Cradleys. However I do agree rules need to be tightened up, to allow a fairer spread of the available talent, 36 point limit with a 30 point lower limit would be a start. Heathen1984
What are we supposed to do. We built our team on the 40 points limit, same as kent. We just chose riders who have improved more, just how it goes ain't it.

Not sure of the context of the rest of whatever the para says but I didn't think Ben had lost his PL place this year. Once upon a time I knew the rules but after 15 years out of the sport, I've got a bit rusty to say the least. Why is life so complicated nowadays? It just seems very unfair on Stoke who gave the lad a chance and are prevented from realising the benefit from the gamble they took.

What a stupid post,if Kent had had the success that Cradley had would you say that?,their team was build to the same level as yours, theirs has been very good, yours has been poor Stoke knew the risks when the brought in Wilson,he was always going to end up back in the PL at some point

waco
So what those who think every thing is fair, are saying is that all teams start on a level playing field..Dispite the fact that some teams pay considerably more to their riders and therefore attract all the best improvers...And others who stick to the pay rate and struggle to put out a competitive side .in my opinion teams should be allowed to strengthen to within at least a couple of points of the team with the highest combined average at the end of each month during the season to keep the league competitive At the moment the difference between the top team and the bottom team is about 30 points how does that produce good racing Edited July 18, 2014 by waco
