stemoc
Very well done to Peterborough last night, all rode well and a great choice of guest. Deserved winners and good luck in the final against the Monarchs From my point of view a somewhat disappointing performance from the team as a whole especially following a great performance at Rye last weekend. For me there was a general lack of atmosphere even before the first race, poor sound system, no refreshment facilities for those in the ground, no update on Kyle, long protracted break with no interaction with the crowd resulting in the meeting being dragged out for 2 1/2 hours finishing just before curfew. Sorry to say on the whole a very disappointing night both on and off the track

Reminds me of a post on the Cardiff GP thread about it being a million miles from reality if you visit one of the tracks up and down the country as Pearson pontificates, based on that experience, or visit the EoES after getting in for a fiver on a well attended swiftly run Sky night! It's rarely that good and needs some work.
topaz325
Well done Peterborough who consistently outgated the Comets last night with some especially good displays from Barret and Blackbird. The only controversial deciscion was when Campton was excluded for unfair riding when the Panthers rider Joe Jacobs crashed, from where i stood it looked like Campton was in front and Jacobs went for a gap that was not there.....but the ref calledit the other way.. Hope the Comets can bounce back on Thursday and bring some points back from Redcar.
Django
Terrible performance from the team last night, again under performing at home - we are better away! Why is this? Pressure? The track? I'm sure the team are asking themselves the same. Big week coming up to catch up with some meetings, will be tough though, away to Redcar (hope for at least a point) away to Edinburgh (hope to score over 30 ) and home to Somerset (very tough, can see us losing this). George - There was a burger van in its usual place serving refreshments so not sure what you mean there, the interval after heat 10 was to allow turns 1&2 through the pits to get refreshments. I also saw stewards escorting people around the pits and back in again when I was getting my burger in the grandstand

We no longer have a burger van on turns 1 & 2 (which has been there since 1999) 2. Until the interval we were told that we would need to take our tickets, leave the ground, go into the grandstand gate and return the same way Now in all the tracks I have visited I cannot recall having to go through that type of rigmarole in order to get a bite to eat or a drink which all lessens the Derwent park experience, as a home fan I can accept that, but if I was a visiting fan having just got off a bus after a long journey I think I may have a different attitude towards having to miss a couple of heats just to get some refreshment. I know that to some this may be a minor issue but with a long drawn out protracted meeting it doesn't help Sorry Dave I have a bee in my bonnet about falling standards, just ignore me

It's taken me a couple of days to decide whether to maintain a dignified silence or respond to your comments. Clearly I have decided upon the latter. Just a few points The caterers, who have the contract for Derwent Park (with Workington Town NOT Workington Speedway) have made the decision to provide us with only one van. The fact it has been there since 1999 bears no relevance. unless of course, people these days buy much less? In an effort to try and ensure that ALL supporters (not just those in the grandstand) have access to refreshments, we have put our heads together with the Stewards and made the ONLY workable short term solution. The long protracted break was to ensure that the supporters who had crossed the pits gate to go to the van had time to get back to their places. We have been warned that if anybody is seen in the 2m exclusion zone behind the fence after 7pm, other than during an interval, the meeting will be canned by the Ref. ( It wasn't Jim McGregor) As Scarra quite rightly says, We were told hot and cold drinks would be available from the rough and ready bar which is why Steve announced it. This is yet to happen. The sound system WAS particularly poor on Sunday but he meeting was underway before it went downhill. Also Howard (who would normally assist) is on holiday so there was nothing at all we could do. I can't really comment on the pre-meeting atmosphere on Sunday. We were all so busy. Possible due to a smaller crowd?. Maybe the sound system was quieter? Possibly all the weekend's merry making had tired supporters out. I honestly can't put my finger on why Sunday might have been that way compared to other weeks. If Steve wishes to comment regarding the points which are directed at him, he will no doubt respond himself. I agree it was a dreadful performance from the boys which made for a very dismal evening for all concerned and for that I apologise. Laura Would have been better to have posted this straight away and alleviate any misconstrued thought's? There is'nt really a lot of point in maintaining a dignified silence when there is such a dearth of information available to explain the all round disappointment of Sunday's meeting, that, without a doubt, is what causes so many people to fall out of love with the club and the sport in general, if any sort of notification can be made available asap to the paying public, better it be up there straight away and let people, interested or otherwise make of it what they will!! It is much easier to appreciate the in's and out's of running a meeting when you are told what those in's and out's actually are, it defuses the situation and helps prevent thing's getting out of hand unnecessarily? I personally didnt ask for a full explanation of everything but I am much more satiated now that i do have so for that I, for one, am very grateful for the time taken to post these answers and that is much appreciated, should there be a next time dont leave it so long!!
