Swedish Elitserien 2014, Round 10

Recommended Posts

I frequently write russian riders names and was at one point a bit worried if I'm getting them right or not. Then I read a big story on our newspaper that around 60% of russians themselves dont know the correct spelling of their name. I just stick with the first once picked.

Think some have got a bit sidetracked with the spelling lark, and that was probably my fault.I just brought the spelling into it to show that the Danes not only spell it differently but pronounce it differently. As pandorum stated it is the pronounciation that is the problem. You can spell it how you want, but there is surely only one correct pronounciation of a name and that is the one the rider chooses? As was stated the Poles, being close neighbours of, and having a similar language and i'd guess still quite a large percentage can speak Russian to school level at least, should know how to say the name. The thing that has bothered me is regional accents/dialects don't seem to exist in Russia.I have asked on a number of occasions work colleagues from Russia/Kazakhstan about this and everyone has said there are no big differences in accent throughout the vast country!!!!Always found it hard to believe due to the big differences in both England and Germany

Cheers - and presumably the Dutch commentators don't have the same confusions/errors?!

I don't know, as I live in Sweden I can't see Dutch Eurosport.

I imagined the feed would come in on a bigger screen, apart from that pretty much what I expected to see. Cramped and claustrophobic but so atmospheric when you put the lights down. Nice work if you can get it, what's the dough like? The time has come to fulfill my destiny as the Ted Lowe of speedway. For those of you watching on freebie internet feeds the white rider is directly behind the yellow.

I missed the Aspegren change as well. That's a rarity - a rider replaced by a reserve in a rerun with no exclusion or fall to speak of. It came up on the titles pre-race so no excuses really. He did correct his error, and mine, as soon as he realised so fair play.

Ask Iwan; http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/index.php?showuser=23985 he is the Dutch commentator.
