Edinburgh Or Arena Essex

Recommended Posts

Well I think we've equalled the record (some may correct me) so our next meeting is Workington at home a week come Friday.

As close as that match may be, I still think we've got enough to take the 3pts so that'll be the record ours. However, we're at Shielfield the next day in the KO Cup and I think that may prove to be a tough hunting ground for us.

As for the comparison, it's impossible. The 1991 Hammers were a truly awesome team but limits were higher and riders were established - some with already high averages. The team we have this year are going about their business as a team - as Al Stewart has said and when one is having an off day, another is stepping up to the plate... Take yesterday... I'd have laughed if you'd have told me we'd win at Glasgow when Cookie only scores 7... The first time he's been out of double figures in 2 years (except the Ipswich debacle and a rain curtailed meeting vs Sheffield when he was on 9 out of 9 prior to his 4th ride)... But Sedge and Stevie both came to the fore with big scores.

What I would say is everyone outside of Edinburgh are saying that practically every team year on year would beat this Edinburgh team... Maybe... However, it really doesn't say a lot for the rest of the league that we're beating does it?!!

As for Cookie rolling??? Have a day off will ya's?! Maybe he does move at the start from time to time but there are others in the league that are far worse for it... He's also proved time and time again in the past 2 seasons that when he's behind, he can overtake as good as anyone...

Next to impossible to compare sides from year to year, let alone different eras. These topics usually appear during the winter when people are bored.

Can't believe the negativity about the unbeaten run.

Surely supporters will want to turn up in their droves to see if their team can be the first to end the run.

or is it better to watch weak teams like Rye turn up?

Ive got to be honest, I still look at this Edinburgh team and wonder how the hell they've gone this long unbeaten. If I'm honest I'm not sure they're that good, so how are they doing it? All credit to them!

stevie finally showing what we all knew was in there has been massive.... He's won them most away meetings along with cook.

Quite fortunate with injurys also.... But it's still a fantastic achievement, hats off.

My reasoning for feeling so confident that the current Edinburgh team would beat all the others mentioned.

Rye House 2005

Danny King is doing well

Edward Kennett is doing no better than so so

Stuart Robson is doing well

Steve Boxall is not doing very well, and the other 3 have retired.

Arena Essex 1991 will all be in their 40's and 50's Hackney 1988 will all be at least mid forties now, and some older.

Newcastle 1982 will all be in their 50's, or older.

I feel their reaction times at the starting gate would put them at such a disadvantage, that the current Edinburgh team would win convincingly.

;-)

However, if the fixture was raced in 1982, then Newcastle would destroy a 2014 Edinburgh side who are still twinkles in the milkman’s eye.

All the best

Rob

Fortunately for the Edinburgh fans, this years team is not so good as to be running up massive scores week in, week out.

I must admit to being a bit bored in 1982 watching the Diamonds knocking in 65+ every home match

I took yesterday off back to normal today he does tend to have the occasional roller does he not.

When you have a genuine number 1 that can win 4-5 races away, gives you a bit boost and 1 good reserve who can take 6-7 rides -Worrell .Teams with an average Strength in depth teams need to produce consistent 2nd string performances every meeting due to lack of Heat winners.Race winners are what does it for me and Monarchs have 4riders who constantly win races most other teams don't.

Good point, last time Edinburgh had a really good side didn't they almost go bust? I'm told that if Edinburgh are top or bottom the crowds don't change that much, so a really good side banging up big scores doesn't get rewarded through the turnstiles, is this still the case? If this is the case then narrow wins away and 10-20 pt wins at home should be affordable.
