SCORPIONS QUICK TO RE-ARRANGE SHEFFIELD CLASH

FLUIDAIR POWER Scunthorpe Scorpions have arranged for last night’s (Friday) rained off clash with local rivals Sheffield Tigers to be restaged at the Eddie Wright Raceway next Wednesday (July 9th, 7.30pm).

With an ominous looking weather forecast, yesterday’s meeting was called off at around 11am. It proved the right call, as Scunthorpe was hit by heavy rain in early evening.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “The forecast was spot on. We simply wouldn’t have got the meeting on.

“Thank you to the Sheffield promotion for their co-operation in agreeing to the new date. With no home meeting next Friday due to the Premier League Pairs, we’d have been left with a three week gap between home meetings, had we not managed to re-stage this meeting within that gap.

“The weather is due to improve before next Wednesday. It should be a real cracker between two sides looking for local supremacy.”

How does Vardy continue to be allowed to referee meetings? The woman is shocking.

Good racing as always, just a shame most of the Sheffield riders failed to turn up.

Great ride in 14 by jorgy to keep Lanham on the inside so as to allow Auty to blast round them both. Proper team riding

Agree that She should not be allowed to referee. Three pathetic decisions that spoilt a decent meeting.

I don't understand Nielsen being at number three?

Thought Compton was poor, Lanham deserved more, Bates poor, Proctor Poor, Taylor Poole good and Stead his usual dependable self.

End of the road for Lanham and Compton or Laurel and Hardy as we call them. At least they split them up tonight, not that there was any discernible improvement on the track. Just not good enough.........

Funny how Birks got heat 15 on 8 points when Thomas had more? Am I missing something?

Probably nothing more to it than the fact TJ had already had 5 rides prior to Heat 15, whereas Ash had just 4 rides. All three points already in the bag, so might as well share the rides about a bit, especially as with 8 paid 10 from 4, Ash had been no slouch either. No doubt had the third point been beyond mathematical doubt, then Matt Williamson would have been left in Heat 14 as well, but Sheffield could have still snatched the point with two 5-1s, so Thomas in Heat 14 was insurance that we definitely ended up with that extra point.

All the best

Rob

I would agree with Compton but not Lanham.

Scunny1, the Ref made it entertaining for you ;-) second time she's excluded Nielsen for the same move on Jorgensen and in the same place too.

To be fair to the ref i think she got them right,Nielsen, steamed under Thomas and for sure knocked him off,not a dirty move at all i must add,but i think she had it right

Same with the Compton move on Douglas,a few Scunny fans we baying at her saying Compton should be excluded but again, nothing wrong with it,she got that right to

Got to say that Sheffield had a proper go,and were better than the score suggests, the racing was close throughout, just shows if you put 4 riders on a fair, well prepared smooth track speedway can be very entertaining, certain clubs could learn alot!!

That's how I saw the Nielsen incident too. Nielsen dived in at an awkward angle, whether there was contact or not?... his own momentum took him straight across the track to the point he almost fenced himself!...not unduly dirty riding, he was having a right go, just went in at the wrong angle and with too much drive. I say she made correct decision there.

Despite the 40 minute sun break (not knocking that, cos it was warranted), it was a thoroughly entertaining meeting.

I agree too with the dec on Neilsen, had a good view for that one. The Compton move on Ryan looked like being a nasty accident, but I was too far away to comment . I defo think that Thomas should have been in heat 15 he deserved that race! How long since was it the done thing to share points out? Thought that was what racing was all about to a rider..... more points more money! grrrrrr!
