Trees
Was as Swindon last night and looked around me to see the majority of fans were probably over 40. So how can we get young people to speedway and keep them there ..... if we did, would they be satisfied with 'just' the speedway, as newbies no, so what would they want, music they like, commentary on the racing (Aussie style?), a chance to get out on the centre green, a chance of pics with the riders, encouragement to cheer for 'their' team. What do you think? I think 100% more thought needs to go into the presentation on race nights to make the whole experience more entertaining!! And then give every regular fan a freebie ticket to bring along a young person under 25 .... I know this has all been said before but ....... Sadly there's nothing to attract young people at the moment . We were stood on the back straight at Glasgow last Sunday and there was a grand total of 2 kids . The majority of the rest of the inhabitants wouldnt see 50 again . There's just too much going on elsewhere for youngsters to be interested in standing in a crumbling stadium , whistling with their hands in their pockets as another delay takes place while listening to mindnumbing gibberish over the microphone in between the seventies greatest hits being played . By god we even had Crazy Horses by the Osmonds being played at Glasgow the other week
Deano
Being a business reliant on gate money probably needs to change. Get the evening streamed onto pc's at home for a much reduced fee per meeting or something. It needs to get into the home, but the BSPA need to benefit from the cash, not a third party provider. Been discussed before , too many stupid image rights associated with speedway . My mate takes photos from the centre green at Glasgow and he's not allowed to even put them on facebook till days after the meeting . Daniel Smith
I go with my 2 nephew's and they absolutely love the racing, they absolutely hate the bits in between. Meetings need to be sped up off track. 2 mins on, race, cruise lap, as soon as the 4 riders enter the pits, 2 mins on and repeat. Make it a regulation that track grading can only happen after every 3 heats unless the meeting referee deems the track unsafe. Us older folk may like a chat between races but the future generations need instant entertainment so we need to move the sport forward and stop fookin about and get on with it. Barring incidents and injuries, no meeting should see past 1hr 30mins Edited July 4, 2014 by screamer

For heaven's sake please no. We've only just stopped Peter York doing this after many complaints from the fans.
trophykid
I'm 41 and my nephew 19 loves speedway. However it's promoted as family entertainment and not as a fast, exciting, motorcycle orientated sport. Most bikers disregard speedway. I was one and saw the light. My nephew was influenced by 'On any Sunday'' I.e. exciting, fast, etc.

teddy2706
As an occasional visitor to Owlerton, it always seemed good that there were quite a few teenagers amongst the crowd, on a visit for the recent Berwick meeting, they seemed to have disappeared. Maybe speedway has lost the teenage girl heart throb image? In the eighties we used to see lots of girls mobbing speedway riders, but infrequently now. Riders need to market speedway as much as promoters, if they have a horde of young ladies pursuing their every move, be sure the stadium will suddenly be full of teenage boys chasing those girls. Assuming they aren't too wrapped up in getting RSI from tapping away at their Xboxes etc.....

FAST GATER
Speedway has Image rights they must be worth the grand total of f##k all!!!!! the sport has no image!!!! Could not agree more needs every scrap of help they can get but until the people running the sport realise that it needs to change the problems will just increase ,they need to improve the image in the eyes of prospective new fans .Many people I speak to think races are predictable and boring or that it is watched elderly bikers or people stuck in a time warp!! Though how something imaginary takes the place of REAL excitement - I really don't know.
