lukasdrymllukas
The Stars fans on here who are so arrogant ,and then get all defensive when they get told so , crack me up !! I've been the only Eagles fan at Swindon on a Thursday & had great banter with the fans...wouldn't dream of criticising 'Rocking Robin' or the music played.... Been on the end of some thrashings at Wimbourne Rd but never slagged off the track... Love going to Lakeside, usually chat gets onto West Ham & Brighton & HA never any nastiness... Check out my post #3 on this thread...a bit of self deprication goes a long way
Bagpuss
So we're not allowed to have an opinion because we lost? Do me a favour. If you bothered to read the thread properly you'll see that crap music and presentation is a problem throughout the sport and not just in Sussex. The only nastiness and arrogance I've encountered this weekend was from our neanderthal friend on the home straight last night.
Trees
Perhaps that's the trouble at Eastbourne, you aren't telling your promotion what you want but just staying away instead? Edited July 6, 2014 by Trees
tellboy
Best bikes and engines would be in countries where there was potential to make play-offs and extend seasons, so increasing rider income. Minor injuries would be exaggerated to duck meetings in England where little at stake to ensure full fitness for the play off matches in Denmark, Sweden and Poland. So you think they move their bikes constantly do you.I think most riders bikes that ride in England are normally left in England.
Daniel Smith
So you think they move their bikes constantly do you.I think most riders bikes that ride in England are normally left in England. That is correct but their motors move around with them.
Royal Box
So you think they move their bikes constantly do you.I think most riders bikes that ride in England are normally left in England. No of course they don't move their bikes constantly and that's not what I said. I know for a fact that best bikes and engines get moved for important league meetings, including Stars riders bringing GP equipment over the last time we were in the play-offs. Next season if Poole are 20 points clear at this stage of the season, and no play-offs, the best bikes and engines will be in Poland, Sweden, Denmark and stay there for their play offs. Imagine no play offs this year. What matches would Sky be showing ? "Tonight Kelvin we are at fourth place Lakeside to see if they can hang on to a top half finish against fifth place Eastbourne." not a great inducement for non-speedway fans to stay watching. tellboy
That is correct but their motors move around with them. This is more correct, but the bikes don't go.Even the engines don't get moved around as much as they use to. I remember about 20 years ago being in a car going to Germany with an engine in the boot, pretty sure we got quizzed about it at customs
Royal Box
As I've already said I'm not totally anti-playoffs - its the lack of recognition that the League winners get that irks me. After six months of 36 matches and finishing top of the league that team should be 'League Champions' in my book. By all means then have the top 4 contest an additional knock-out competition, and call it 'The Play-Offs ' if so wished - then you'd have a 'Play-Off Champion' and indeed a team could do the double. So my 'improvement' would maybe satisfy 2 teams instead of one, and wouldn't denigrate any relevance imo. My comparison with the GPs I think is relevant - its a season long contest that would be ridiculous to end in one 'race-off' - hopefully no-one will ever consider it. World Cup football is a one-off competition over 4 weeks run on a traditional 32>16>8>4>2>1 knock-out format. I know the first round are mini-leagues but its a fair way (and only way imo) to do it in that competition. I know nothing about rugby - does the League-winning team get a trophy? Obviously the play-off final is well supported but I don't think the changes I'm thinking of would (or shouldn't) affect that aspect. No the team that finishes top of the table doesn't get a trophy. They play the team that finishes 4th, at home, in the semi final. The team that finishes 2nd is at home to the team that finishes 3rd. The champions are the team that wins the final at Twickenham. I guess this is so the season climaxes with the best teams battling it out for the ultimate prize. It works very well and is great sporting drama. I would think the format would have been kicked about a bit between rugby bosses and Sky and this was decided as better format than having a league champion who then takes part in a post-season play-off with the 3 teams below them.
stevebrum
Another loss for the Stars with Bjerre a real worry. Fair play to the Eagles. Good win all the same.

The top team chooses either 2nd, 3rd or 4th and has the choice of home or away in the 1st leg of both the semi and the final

You would have thought Sky would have used their global knowledge of sport and entertainment to come up with the format that works best, but all they had to do was ask you and GRW. Easy !

I have a feeling your tongue is firmly in your cheek but yes it'd be great if just for once the powers that be had a bit of imagination. They* have come up with the format that works best ...No fan ,Tv etc would give a stuff about a separate play off cup . So 3 runners-up in the league wouldn't be interested in another chance of glory? And league winners wouldn't want a chance of doing 'the double'? In the good old days the prestige of winning the KOCup was only slightly behind winning the league - trouble was it was presented very poorly and went out of favour because of it, so a well-presented Sky competition at the end of the season could revive interest imo. Fans after all want to see as many matches before the season ends -currently it just fizzles out for all but 4 clubs. The reason the KO Cup,went out of favour was that it was not part of the Sky deal , was never televised and never got any of the Sky money. Kings Lynn were the first club that pulled out of the KO Cup quickly followed by Eastbourne, both promotions bleating that they couldn't afford it. Prestige doesn't pay the bills. g13webb
That have come up with the format that works best ...No fan ,Tv etc would give a stuff about a separate play off cup . Do you honestly think people support the play-offs because of the name? It would make no difference what it was called, if the were a home and away match with an aggregate score, people would come. It could be named anything at all. The ORION KC Cup has a nice ring to it I'm not against the play-offs at the end of the season, just feel it wrong that you ask clubs and fans to support a 36 match league program, then demean any achievement by giving the title to a team that has won a pokcy 4 team KO at the end of the season. And you wonder why speedway has lost so much support...... 2 more teams are going this year.... There's not many left........
tellboy
These fans that turn up for the play-offs,why are they not at the league matches.Maybe the controlling powers should find out why. Would more fans turn up for league matches if they knew there team had a chance of winning the league without going through a ko stage at the end of the season?Or do they simply save their money and turn up for the play-offs(as it is now)if their team makes the top 4. Speedway wont survive with the just a few well attended matches at the end of the season, they need to get those fans back to the bread and butter of the league season.
