So the gating tart won again....... hope there was something exciting to do while he was on track.

you would know all about gating tarts being a Monarchs fan! How anyone can begrudge Greg his win is beyond me. If you are going to moan bout Greg being a gating tart then how many races did Tai win from the back then? Getting out of the second bend in front is 95% of a speedway race and both Greg and Tai do that more than anyone hence they are pulling clear in the championship. Oh and did you not see Greg go past Darcy a couple of gp's ago? He can pass when the track allows. As for Cook he will never get to this level

I HAVE been lucky enough and privileged to have attended many major sporting events from a soccer World Cup Final down but the show put on at the Millennium tonight was as good as any.

The big star is the stadium itself and the atmosphere that can be created under a roof and with the lights out. I cannot tell you how much time and effort was put into just the parade which was a spectacular success enjoyed not least by the riders themselves. Try doing that on a sunny afternoon at Wembley or the Olympic Stadium.

BSI have their knockers but anyone who left tonight and didn't have a fantastic evening will need their heads examined.

Proud to be have been involved with the show and a great and very talented bunch.

Well i go for the racing and the track was the best i can remember but the racing was ok nothing more and far inferior compared with lesser riders at Somerset the night before. An enjoyable evening and if the stadium was not in Rip off City I'd tend to agree about the Stadium itself.

All that said you must be tongue in cheek with your references concerning Wembley and The Olympic Stadium especially the latter which will have a capacity that would be within reach of Speedway if the pricing was done correctly and with transport links that are second to none.

NOT tongue in cheek at all... Millennium far better suited to a speedway event of this nature than either Wembley or the Olympic stadium., neither of which have a roof (protection against the weather and able to turn the stadium from day to night and back again). Also Cardiff has so much more to offer than the area around Wembley for example and for so many is more accessible geographically.

I thought it was a great GP and racing wise was better than in recent years.

The attendance was also as good as I have seen at the venue so they must be doing something right, enjoyed the whole show and the weather wasn't too bad either.

Don't suppose Horsens has a roof and is probably as dead as Vojens for nightlife and isn't that accesible for most fans. But then it is provavly the only alternative in Denmark......

Again a great event and a great atmosphere what was lacking though was good racing, for a showcase event the main ingredient failed to deliver, far too processional. Earlier in the week on talksport one of the presenters was commenting on the speedway gp and stated whats the point, whoever is in front going into the first bend will win, last night did nothing to disprove his arguement. I also thought the fan zone wasnt as good as in previous seasons, far too cramped up in the wood street. Gutted Tai didnt finish the night on top of the podium but the important thing is he finished the night leading by three points, hes looking good and hopefully he can nail back to back titles.

The track and racing was certainly better than last year and the crowd seemed larger too. I really enjoyed it this year especially as my view on the 2nd bend top tier was brilliant.

didn't go this year , but yes it always comes across as a good show well done greg I really wanted tai to win but who can begrudge the old boy yet another win how does he do it , the only thing that let it down for me was that dickhead of a presenter , scott and crumpie were ok but that guy he is just a moron , have to say though I went to the pairs meeting on Friday that was a proper speedway meeting,i know it couldn't happen but imagine a GP on that Track !!

Grey Hancock does the simple things so very well

Woffinden was excellent

Agree.

The idea that Greg Hancock is a gating tart is too laughable for words. Just because he can gate does not mean that's all the weapons he has in his arsenal.

Tai is a damn good gater does that mean he is a gating tart.

Gating is an important art in speedway and good luck to those who master it.

The meeting was hugely exciting from the vantage point of my leather computer chair so what it was like at trackside I can only imagine.

There is more to the sport than passing and those who whine obviously can't appreciate a rider who can defend his line or the opposite put a rider under severe pressure but not manage to pass him.

Gating is an art as too is team riding.

Of course the haters will bring up 'first out the gate wins' but I can dismiss F1 in the same terms and sports such as cricket or golf in the same superficial way as all three bore me to death.

A speedway race is a lot more than just who wins the bloody thing.

Just as the meeting is not just 15 or 20 minutes of racing because if I had thought that I would never have watched as much speedway as I did.

The SGP is the best idea this sport has ever had. And the idea the racing was better with a one off final just plain mad.

I was at Wembley in 1981 and the racing was very unspectacular for the most part.

But what a hell of a meeting to watch as the crowd was awesome and the battle between the top riders absorbing and exciting.

If all you go for is passing then I for one feel sorry for you as the magical meetings people blather on about on this forum rarely, if at all, happened.

I have seen thousands of speedway meeting and this one was reasonably typical.

Of course there are tracks that buck that trend and have seen many a meet at those places but in general what we saw at Cardiff is what generally happens at a speedway meet.

But what a Hell of an atmosphere and again an utterly absorbing contest that even Chris Harris managed to be part of.

For me the GP needs a reshuffle too many top riders not in there

Well to be fair to SGP Emil and Tomasz declined to be involved which especially on Emil's part the most idiotic thing the lad has done as he is one of the best riders in the world.

Harris and Batch poor substitutes but still the last GP proves that assessment to be slightly unfair and even Harris looked like a top speedway rider yesterday for a while.

It really needs 3 Russians rather than 3 Swedes or 3 Danes as they have three of the top lads in the world but sadly Russian speedway is in a bigger mess than British so maybe we will never see that.

Three Brits at Cardiff showed how far we have fallen. Cook was very poor in this company after a half decent first ride and it looks like our WTC hopes are set for a disappointment as a final place way beyond what we have.

Chris did well by his low standards but once again showed he can't build on a good start and fell away once again at the death.

Tai was magnificent and may well become the first Brit to ever win back to back World titles.

That at least might shut the moaning Minnie's up for a week or two :)

Didn't go, so confined to watching on TV. I thought the event came across really well and Jason Crump, in particular, was excellent, showing a real professionals insight. Streets ahead of anyone else who has filled that role imo.

Great night out, even if Cardiff annoys me with traffic / parking and just seems a crazy odd place for an international stadium but anyway great night once inside.

Cant believe how "clean" the meeting was, not one rerun, no exclusions, no drama, only two uneventful falls, its was a great change from rerun after rerun and refs decisions.

Nicki sure was popular in there eh! lol

Wow wow and WOW! My first ever Cardiff visit, and what a showcase event for speedway that is! Can see why Cardiff is known as the main GP of the season. Atmosphere was absolutely electric, something I've never heard at a speedway event before. Without doubt having a Brit as good as Tai to cheer on as well makes the event just that little bit more special. So gutted he didn't manage to win the GP but can't begrudge a man like Hancock winning it, still showing the boys the way round at 44!

Hard to describe how buzzing I still am now, 4 hours after it. Something like that must surely make more people want to watch speedway.. Huge credit to BSI and the track and event staff, put on a superb show. Just hope this can give clubs some idea that this is how you'll get more people through the turnstiles!

Did I hear a nail taken out of the British speedway coffin?!?!

(A reference to a post I made yesterday....)

I did park and ride to and from Cardiff east.. £3 for both ways and back on the bus within 5 minutes after the event, if your anywhere near that for next year then try that

We were going to come off at junction 32 Cardiff East, then used the directed junction 33 Cardiff West as short of time due to traffic congestion on the M4. We have used junc.33 the previous 5 times we have gone by car, the first time was from the old Cardiff ground at Ninian Park, then County Hall. Was no problem then. You don't expect to pay 10 quid for park n' WALK! Need to get that organised better.

First GP was best one for me, awesome atmosphere among the 40000 speed fans, and enjoy chatting to fans from different clubs. Sat next to two old guys from Bristol, wearing jackets from the 70s literally covered in hundreds of metal and cloth club badges. Said they haven't been washed since 1978! Not as many Polish fans since Gollob retired.

It's a different world from league speedway so anyone attending the GP is unlikely to be attracted to a cold night at Blunsdon standing on a grass bank in an outdated stadium with poor views.( I've never seen the 3 Mohican wig wearing Robins fans I saw yesterdayat Swindon's meetings!) Although hopefully the Robins will be moving into their new stadium in late 2015(unlikely to have retractable roof though!).

Racing doesn't pull in the fans.

And why should he?

Or are you claiming the Pairs was a better all round 'show' than Cardiff?

Attended for the first time in a number of years tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. How great to be able to cheer on a British World Champion.

Formula 1 proves your first point!

BSI know how to put on a show and the whole Monster thing seems to have given the series a new dimension. EL speedway could really do with the same kind of treatment, if it could sort out one race night and get the top men involved again in a squad system top league racing could be a great product with BSI / Monster input.

Didn't go this year but watched it last night with a noisy bunch and again this morning in peace and quiet.

The crowd looked larger than last year and certainly created the best noise/atmosphere for many a year!!

It would seem BSI have taken note of some past criticisms as this year's GP experience seemed the best in recent times and there was some decent racing for a man-made track!

Loved Crumpie and Scotty as summarisers - they did a good professional job! :t:
