The White Knight
"I remember when there were 100,00 fans every week at the Felton training track and there were 22 passes and team riding in every race" I remember when there were a hell of a lot of Supporters attending Speedway than there are now. Â That, in itself, must tell you something. However carry on convincing yourselves that Speedway these days is better than it ever has been. Â I just ask you - when you have no Speedway to Support - please remember the warnings of The White Knight.

It's been done by Cricket, Darts and to some extent Snooker and Speedway must do something similar to attract new fans, otherwise it will die an agonising death.
jackofdiamonds
On the same note Steve, we at Northumbria Cycle Speedway, had a stand at the entrance on Sunday. We were hoping to attract some new younger riders. We saw almost everyone who came in, and were shocked at how few teenagers were there. Speedway in general cannot hope to survive on the support of the more "mature" supporter alone.

Things DO need to change - you are right. How would you suggest the Product could be improved - to encourage youngsters for example?  The idea of Four Bikes around the Track cannot change - that IS the basic package. Any changes would have to be on the peripheral of the Sport itself.  I have my own ideas that might help - but they are well known on this Forum. It doesn't say I am wrong though....

I don't particularly like the bloke (I don't know him personally, mind, just the way he comes across), but Speedway needs a Barry Hearn type person to come in and shake the whole thing up. Also, it doesn't say you are right either. Nobody on here is kidding themselves that the product is better than ever, but on the other hand, nobody in the right mind can say that the old days were miles better. If you hosted a yesterday meeting now, todays audiences would laugh at the non professional and amateur way it was presented. It was shoddy and poorly organised. I must borrow your rose coloured specs some day, but I am very much a realist so I won't bother. BTW you being 'right' seems to be a very high priority these days. Sadly. Dave I think you both make valid points however to me IMO and as I have said many times before it is JUST an opinion, but I do think everything was better years ago & I still enjoy, and get right in to watching meetings on dvd or video a lot more than of nearest times, and by that I think it was still good in days of KBS and prair and still get the dvds/ or would if they were in the shop to buy.  As for the reasons why I think it is partly down to charicters that you had then as well as costs associated with everything and IMO the club are charging EL money and sadly I don't think the sport is worth that never mind at Newcastle!!  So there for I have only been to 5 meetings so far in 2014 and I really don't see me returning a full season anymore and I was as you know a hard core supporter, I do however still support Newcastle from a distance mainly by updates and even when I am there the only rider I now fully support now and have always done is Stuy Robson and that is league wise never mind at Newcastle.  I don't want to see Newcastle or any other club close but I do think ALL including Newcastle needs to be run better, but I don't see it happening sadly!!  As I said though just an opinion!! It most certainly doesn't Dave - you are right. I don't pretend to have all the answers, I just think I have a few ideas that I believe would help. That apart - if I am wrong about anything at all - I can take that, provided it can be proved to me.  Apart from that, me being RIGHT is not important at all - the future of Speedway should be important to us all - RIGHT or WRONG. Far more qualified people than me - you for example - think they have the answer - that is fair enough, it is your opinion.  I merely offer my opinion.  By the way - if me being RIGHT is a high priority - I'm not sure why I support Speedway. The question I have to ask myself is - am I RIGHT - in the head? :) Edited July 2, 2014 by The White Knight

NJC71
Â You ARE joking of course. Â Â This was in response to my comment that King had slowed to let Lindgren pass him rather than Lindgren trying everything to get past King as you claimed. Â Quote George English in this weeks Speedway Star "Ludvig got a full 15 thanks to Danny looking for him"........hmmm....I clearly wasn't joking.
