Bagpuss
If Matt can replace Hopwood with a scoring reserve, i would make Poole favourite's. They have the strongest top five imo.. I would probably agree with that, the main difference had been our reserves. Difficult to see how Hopwood can be replaced with somebody better but they really need to get Newman going, he hasn't had enough big scores and has underperformed considering his comparative experience.

Considering he's just recently returned from injury again, he's doing ok. But, we do need back up for him, just to take a bit of presure off him.

Starman2006
Agree I think newman has done well lately he can certainly hold his own against the better reserves And the longer he can stay injury free, the better he will get.
jenga
strange to hear middlo saying speedway was a contact sport. no doubt some one will remind him of that comment when one of his love childs gets a bit of a bump going into the first bend.. its not table tennis you know.. table tennis is more exciting..

Pawlicki did, and came off worse, and the race shouldn't have been stopped, nobody came off.

Cant agree with that, ref stopped the race at point of contact,it just so happened it was the Poole boys who got the advantage,if Eastbourne had got the advantage i would still pull it back at the point of the coming together. If you let this go riders will be carving people up from the startl line.Where the point of contact was the ref was 100% correct to hit the red lights and stop the race.He had no idea who would come out of the first bend in front,or if there was going to be a fall, the safe and fair thing to do was call an un start. I've only just had the chance to watch the meeting and the way I saw it there was only a fraction of a second between the point of contact and the outcome so I don't believe the referee hit the red light before the advantage was obvious. Pedersen turned early and clouted the Poole rider who then gained the advantage and I believe most ref's would have let it go. I also believe that any other referee would have put all 4 back in the Ward incident. I can't see he is going to bail out onto an injured knee and risk the rest of his season to get a re run there and there was certainly contact. Blackbirds start was just a perfect reaction, no movement so correct call. The Hopwood incident I can't see the ref could have called any other way.
weatherwatcher
I can't remember the last time a saw riders racing on a dust bath. It was terrible at one stage it was hard to even see the riders as they came of the bends. They could do with some automatic watering system if the track dries out to that extent. I can never remember Eastbournes track being like this in the 70's and 80's. It has got to be the way they lay the surface now, or that they use different shale that dries out far faster than it used to do. Something has gone wrong there. And nowhere have heard that speedway is a contact sport. Middo probably thought he was at a destruction Derby meeting instead of speedway. Good meeting though. SteveLyric2
Not sure what all the fuss is about, we got a very unexpected 2 points for an away draw and we're back down there again in a couple of weeks with hopefully a different ref!! Shale Searcher
Uncle Bob decided!!!!!!!! I don't understand why though, the clips on the interweb seem to indicate passing was easily possible pre alterations, it looks like it rode bigger in those days as well, today riders seem to be almost permanently on full lock most of the way around, hardly ever having their wheels inline..... Did the track shape changes happen when laydowns appeared? Cannot seem to find any definitive timescales to yes or no that question.. You got something right for a change, the Referee DID, get it wrong, ALL 3 decisions... My 9 yr old Nephew could have done better.
