Rye House V Redcar 28.06.13

Recommended Posts

'It left Rye House team manager John Sampford to reflect on a match that clearly got away in its second half - and he considered the changing track conditions to be a key factor. “We were in the ascendancy when the circuit was damp and grippy, and they didn’t seem to be able to handle it as well as us. Once it had dried out a little and slickened off, their trapping became much better than ours – and on a slicker surface that became critical'.

Above is a quote from John Sampford taken from press release after thursdays match at Ipswich.

Therefore it begs the question as to why the team does well on grippy tracks when 50% of its fixtures will be on the well slick track at Rye or whether the track at Rye can be made grippier in some way.

But I don't think I will ask the question to the management or I may be forced to step down as a supporter and consider my future at Rye. As a certain team captain recently has !!!

I will be expecting a Rye win but they have so many problems at present which do not appear to be being addressed,

Can't believe some of the stuff that coming out of Rye House these days. Jason Bunyan loses the captaincy because he lacks motivational skills. Surely the team manager should be doing that?

The riders are unhappy with the track set up, that's a fact. Who knows better how the track should be prepared, someone who races on it every week, or someone who hasn't had a competitive race for fifty years?

A few big showers are forecast for tomorrow, maybe uncle Len will pull the plug on this early!

Redcar are down at Plymouth tonight, so an early rain of wouldn't be necessary. Best to wait until early afternoon and see how the weather is.

The sort of people that should be considered for a team manager at rye should really be an ex rider who would have motivational skills not an ex fan who has a stop watch, makes zero decisions without looking at Len and one who gives the most inane interviews ever published. John sadly is like a little kid in a chocolate factory, a strong personality is required but that ain't ever going to happen. Was bad enough when Ronnie Russell fancied himself as a team manager explaining once to Rob Woffinden what lines to use in his short stay at Rye, I'll not bother saying where Rob told Ronnie to go.

Not sure about JB as a captain but he has hardly set the place alight in his time at Rye, Eddie on the other hand has simply got to lead by example. I don't see an early call off but with more NL riders as cover the top four will need to score big if we want anything from the meeting

Tressarieu riding in a field again and no facility, *ucking comical. The incompetence at that club is unreal.

Tres was a panic signing to cover for the Tyson Nelson visa fiasco. He's hardly set the place on fire. Will he be replaced? Probably not given the promotions reluctance to release underperforming riders and with the season over before the end of June there's hardly any point. Nice fella by all accounts, but so is Mr Patel down at our local pizza take away. I've got his number if Silver wants it. He even owns his own moped

Most of the riders are nice out of their working environment. Tres rode very well at ippo the other night, probably his best meeting of the season. A combination of a former track and a track with some dirt in it. Bunyan also looked fast. As did Kennett, Boxall, Garrity and to a certain extent do did Bowen.

Rye has produced good racing overall this year, but think how much better a bit more dirt at Rye would benifit the riders and the paying public? That's a win win situation surely?

But of course the old codger won't be bothered about entertainment, presentation, quality food, draft beer, tiding up the stadium, getting each race sponsored, changing the team etc.

It's hard to beleive this is the same promoter from a few years ago.

Time is catching us all up. It really is time for a major major clear out. Perhaps the rumours about the go kart track being made bigger and swallowing up the speedway track are true hence the old boy is slowely winding the old place down.

Hope the last comment isn't true, although I can see it happening.

It's not so much the lack of dirt, it's the lack of grip. Too much dirt would make it difficult for the bikes to turn on the tight bends. It's a watering issue

Rumours generally not worth spit, with the leaseholder being Len Silver it couldn't be forced on the Speedway Stadium so the only way it would happen is if it had his blessing. Now that may be the case but if it was true then only he would know. I remember him saying some years ago the Speedway would be safe as long as he is alive. Many things are said about Len but one thing i have found since my first knowledge of the bloke is that he is a man of his word. If he was about to sell up then why would he have spent anything on the place this year.

Tres may be riding in a field somewhere in Europe but he will be earning far more than he would have done at Rye. Its a sad indictment of speedway that more excitement can be had in a field in Marmande in one race than the entire Grand Prix at Cardiff all for 25 Euros at the Longtrack GP. As for Tres being a panic signing again it says a lot about the real problems of British Speedway. The draft system introduced supposedly to give the youngsters more experience is really a cost cutting exercise for the EL and confirmation that there are simply not enough riders to go around these days. Len's real mistake was having anything to do with Nelson for his 2014 season, he's just not worth the risk.

You would have thought Rye House would have known about the Colombia Uruguay match in advance and not left it till this late in the day to call match off. Very shoddy

Nice try

Hasn't rained in Hoddesdon since 3pm and was only light rain before that. The track needs a serious overhaul if it can't take a few drops of rain
