Workington Comets V Plymouth Devils 28/6/14 7pm

Recommended Posts

Comets have changed their riding order for Saturdays match against the Devils

Lewis Rose will guest for Ashley and it remains to be seen if Kyle is fit to take his place. For Plymouth it looks like R/R for the luckless Roynon

New line-up - Josh, Kyle, Rene, Mason, Ricky, Guest for Ashley, Simon

Need the win from this and the full 3pts?

Should be too strong for Plymouth who's away form has been a bit suspect of late but I'm looking forward to seeing a couple of their riders whom I've not yet seen here before in Jensen and Simota!!

Will be hoping that Kyle is OK to resume as his contribution could be vital same with Campton, while looking at DD's format looks to have dropped to No4 so could be a shrewd move if it allows him a little less pressure to perform under as he's been under performing at 2 for quite some time now and looks like he needs a change of scenery!!

Will have a look for something in the region of 51-39. ;)

Very good meeting tonight between two relatively even looking sides that produced some excellent racing on a smooth but often pretty dry track!!

For Plymouth, Barker represented some real value in a racer, always pushing and trying for the full four laps, Katajisto was the big disappointment, a better contribution from him would have seen the Devils get closer to a point tonight, Fricke an able and valuable guest scored some good points at the front and backed up well as did Newman, scored well in the middle order, Benko rode quite well really even though he didn't score, just a tad off the pace but Simota did ride well and was value for his points!!

For the Comets, Josh rode very well again only dropping the 1pt, Rene looks to be coming back to a more consistent level of scoring and riding much better at 3, the move to 4 certainly seemed to help Campton tonight, one of the best meetings he's had for a while, certainly hope this positional move is a sign of more good things to come, Wells, an absolute gating tart tonight, missed it he's nowhere, hit it and he's up there with the best, enigma!!

Lewis Rose as guest res tried hard but was too much outpaced on this fast track whereas Simon just seems to be getting better, the change of track has done him the world of good scoring really good points and, most importantly for us, winning races, something Mills just never looked like doing?

Be an interesting return to Rye next Saturday, weather permitting, as to how Simon does, his experiences there were not good this year but, now the confidence is back a nice little 10pts return will do very nicely!! ;)

Overall, a very competitive meeting with lots of good racing and a valuable 3pts for the Comets, need to get some momentum going now as we are quite a few matches behind in the PL and need to start getting some in and points on the board not cramming them into a short space of time which has been our downfall quite a lot in recent years?

Certainly looked like an improved and dare I say, rejuvenated Comets tonight, a lot more belief about the team and very satisfying it looked too, onwards and upwards!! :D

It wasn't a bad meeting but I didn't think it was that good.

The problem was all the grip was out by the fence (particularly from the mid point of the meeting) and once a rider got on it it was difficult to pass. Heat 12 said it all when Simota gated and Bach couldn't get through despite a lot of effort. A bit of grip on the inside and Rene would have eaten him for breakfast.

Having said that, there were a couple of cracking races where no-one managed to pass - particularly heat 9, where Fricke was all over Bach and Campton.

Very impressed with Fricke and, especially, Grajczonek. I am not sure what Lambert has been drinking, but I'll have a couple of pints - he looked a completely different rider to the one I saw struggling desperately at Rye House only a couple of weeks ago.

Thing is HT, the grip is "always" out by the fence as the grading very rarely brings it back to the inside just boshes the stuff around in situ with the "wonder wheel"!!

Couple of lorry loads needed really to get the grip back on the inside, was a bit like a pavement on 3/4 for most of the meeting but as I said, didn't stop people racing well on it but as you say, couldn't always get passed? :D

Not a massive fan of Ben barker but credit where credits due he is pure entertainment & a cracking little rider. As for Workington I really don't get why we are sticking with Ricky Wells, like it's been said before he really doesn't look intrested to me, time for a change

Who would you put in? I've seen Rosen suggested on the other forum but he couldn't average 7 for Newcastle. Any other foreign rider would require accommodation and a vehicle probably as well as travel expenses, I can't think of any British rider that would fit. Ricky has a casual, laid back style, like his personality which can make it look like he doesn't care but he does. He fits in well with the rest of the team and performs really well away from home which is what we were lacking last year with Rich and Rusty on occasions.

Agree with you on Barker though, he made it an entertaining meeting and enjoyed his interview

I think you are dead right.

Workington is always one of my favourite places for an away trip (might surprise some, but it is). The run up there is through the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District (easily the best one I do) and then there's the Waverley & the Henry Bessemer for overnight stays and cheap beer (about half what I paid in East Anglia) and good food.

The track has usually been pretty good under previous promotions although, like some, I was put off by Denham's constant carping.

The current promotion have really upped the game where that's concerned, with little but positivity. I like Steve Whitehead & John Walsh doing the presentation and given that its £14 for parking (outside the stadium) entry and programme its as cheap as most NL clubs. The equivalent at Glasgow is £20.50.

Bit more shale on the track and it seems to me that the Comets have got it all just about spot on.

I'll certainly be coming back a couple more times at least.

If you read the Sheffield threads about Wells, that's exactly what they thought about him. I think its simply the impression that he gives rather than fact.

I am a Barker fan and on Saturday everyone saw why.
