Has anyone got any info as to availability for hotels for The Cardiff GP?

Try your luck at trivago.co.uk and search on price. Looking at what's available and if you find the price acceptable the Mercure seems the best option to me.

Or alternatively sit tight and see if unsold rooms get cheaper nearer the date. Sometimes people post unwanted rooms on here too.

I remember last year when we started looking, city centre hotels were very expensive on the Fri and the Sat night.

We got a good b&b 20 miles outside of Cardiff at a reasonable rate for the Sat night then dropped into Cardiff for the Sunday night when prices had dropped.

Doing the same this year, same 2 places, and then going on to Swansea for the Monday night, home Tuesday.

Try emailing the University.

Website - http://www.cardiff.ac.uk/for/prospective/accommodation.html
Email Address - Residences@cardiff.ac.uk

I emailed them last week now got 4 rooms for Sat night at £25 per person (also rooms for Fri). Just a single room ensuite, self catering but thats all you need and cause its University halls they tend to be close to City Centre. Stayed there in 2012 and more than pleased with them for that price.

Thanks, would have done the job but full. Appreciate the recommendation.

You will be hoping for cancellations at this late stage.

Last year we were looking in April (for a early June gp) and settled for a b&b 15-20 miles outside of Cardiff. Did that to get the rates, no £29 per night Premier Inn type rooms on gp nights (or any other large gathering in the big cities).

This year we went straight to the same place, very good value.

Then we drop into Cardiff for the Sunday night when prices are back to "norm".

Yes understand. Did it for 5 years by pre booking very early, another year got late cancellation. Couldn't pre book this year as wasn't sure if I could make it.

Now it's full steam ahead, jolly boys outing (well me and Bro) pairs Fri, managed to get Prem inn 7 miles from track, then GP Sat - just need a room now, don't mind being a few miles way, just don't like being ripped off.

Bit late for this year now but for future reference, last year we rented an apartment for the weekend in Cardiff Bay which worked out at a very reasonable price.

if you Google 'Space in the City Cardiff' you should get all the gen.

Sorted, roughing it in a tent for the night. £27, 10 min walk into town from campsite.

Thanks for the replies and assistance.

If you're camping 10 minutes wlak form the centre of Cardiff you're in someones front garden! Be interesting to know where you're staying.

I've mentioned this the last few years. If you stay in Century Wharf you're a 10-15 minute walk from the stadium and you get the use of the pool and gym if you fancy it! You're also only a 10 minute walk from the bay so can avoid the crowds of speedway fans in the centre before jumping on a boat up into the centre.

Having a long weekend in the Gower early friday off to Cardiff for practice then staying nr Swansea for 4 nights....just gonna jump on a train to the capital on saturday morning and return in the evening....far from the madding crowd for some relative peace and tranquility washed down with plenty of Welsh Ale!
