bigeddiechek
OK, so the question to be asked is, where did the big crowd -- and it was a big crowd -- all come from on a Tuesday night? Obviously not to see big tractors, excellent New Holland banners or listen to a good pipe band -- although these things all helped the sense of occasion once folk were in. Was it a big crowd because of the novelty of the off-night, the Sky presence or maybe the £10 deal? Or the posters? Any thoughts? I'm not sure it was the £10 deal, as when run last year there wasn't the noticeable difference in crowd size. I think the answer lies in it was actually a big occasion. For a teeny wee Northumbrian town to be challenging for a major league, and to be covered live on Sky is a big deal for the area. It stirred-up a lot of interest with folk who had never really come across speedway. Converting to full-time supporters is hard, but I'm sure it will have picked up a few occasional punters. I love how certain individuals like to have a dig at my being able to bring lots of newcomers along. It is psychologically very revealing! As I often say, real life is more important than virtual; to some, at least.

The meeting was well promoted, and the club rewarded with a decent crowd for their work, it will be interesting to see if the crowd level is the same for tomorrows meeting with Somerset. One off advertising of event. Fairly local derby, bringing in a good Edinburgh backing. I reckon half the crowd were Monarchs

I was not having a"dig" I was just quoting a fact that YOU felt like you had mention in a previous post as if it was important. The question I was answering was regarding the size of the crowd ,I thought that might be a relevant factor. screm
What was the attendance figure ? What's the attendance figure for any of our meetings. Maybe that could be something that could be put in the programme each week.

People are sick of it . You cant expect neutrals to be enticed by half a team turning up , i read on another thread that Berwick could be without Vissing and Kus at Overtaking Nirvana next Friday night . We have the same nonsense against Somerset on Sunday with Pijper and Berge missing . Okay Berge has now since broke his wrist , but he would have been at some long track nonsense instead of riding for his team . There's too much of this crap now filtered it's way into the PL schedule , between that and doubling uppers not knowing exactly who they're supposed to be riding for - is it any wonder crowds are dwindling at an alarming rate .

I am sure there will be Berwick supporters giving tonight's meeting a miss due to missing riders, as Paulco says its getting out of hand in the PL, so maybe its time the rule makers got tougher with how and why teams get guest and R/R facilities so easily. Ok, it might mean teams not signing certain riders but if that means the same seven riders turn up week in week out is that necessarily a bad thing. I agree we need to stop this happening, it's especially a big hit to newer fans, I think, maybe not, maybe us all. Just out of curiosity, would you have not signed David and Matej because of this? Just out of curiosity, would you have not signed David and Matej because of this? I would have, with David generally every one new his commitments, as for Matej I don't think Czech authorities would have called him back, except for the fact he is riding so well for The Bandits. So many good young Czechs coming through the ranks, Eduard Kracmar, Ronan Ceska, Znek Holub etc etc.

Just out of curiosity, would you have not signed David and Matej because of this? Don't think your question, is out of curiosity, more loaded, especially because you know as well as I do Bellego and especially Kus have been so good, my post was more speedway in general rather than Berwick in particular. If, Kus for example hadn't quite had been so good, maybe the Czech Authorities wouldn't have called him back for this meeting tonight. As for Bellego, he is riding in the second of a World Final tomorrow, so I can just get my head around that though in the case of both these riders, it does Berwick no good tonight to have two of their best riders in Poland and Czech Republic respectively. I'm with you as well Taffy. Since it was Screm that made the point, I'm interested if he actually would prefer that. It is what his post implies. Amazing, wasn't it you that was against signing Kus, and have been proved oh so wrong, I`m sure you have been delighted to be so wrong to.
