Berwick Vs Edinburgh 12/8 Live On Sky

Recommended Posts

One would like to believe that Berwick would make "every effort to put on the best possible show" for each and every meeting staged at Shielfield.

As asked on another thread:

"Aren't Berwick to be allowed to service their supporter-base with a bright electronic newsletter two or three times per week, without every nuance contained in these bright offerings being clinically picked apart in a search for imagined inaccuracies?"

Don't think he was looking for inaccuracies. My interpretation, was, Berwick push out the boat for Sky or the FIM, he would like the same for every meeting, this has not always been the case in the past few years.

As an interested observer of Berwick threads, can you explain what their promotion do for the big events that isn't done on regular nights?

Good question. Apart from putting up extra posters, and having extra catering for the bigger attendances, nothing! Presentation is more or less the same, although Sky Sports might ask for changes.

The earlier suggestion that there are wholesale changes for the bigger meetings doesn't really stack up.

If that is the case, then the appeal of being on TV is an attraction, not the appeal of speedway, as the crowds are vastly different.

I think what you mean is TV cameras being at the meeting is an added attraction?

The fact that Sky Sports are covering a sports team from such a wee place as Berwick catches the attention of lots of general sports fans who are perhaps not into speedway.

It adds an extra bit of credence to the meeting.

Thus, you get larger crowds, and extra effort is made to accommodate for this.

Hence, "pushing the boat out".

There will be a bit of added spice to this meeting now after last nights thumping of the Capital Monarchs!

hopefully put some dirt on the track then, so maybe there's some passing.

last nights track was "Gate and Go"

hardly a good advert for british speedway when the sky camera's are going there :)

NO!, they have just got the loose stuff off the track, need it slick. When it was knee deep around the fence, it was still gate & go, as you dare not stick your wheels into in fear of ending up flat on your proverbial arse,

But last nights meeting was gate and go to the extreme, with no passing after 2nd bend of 1st lap, just ask Matej Kus....

there were some determined "chases" but not a hope in hades of passing, unless rider in front had ef, or made a howler, and even then little hope of getting past (fricke in heat 12)

Even Lee Complin would have found last night impossible, tracks need some dirt, to give those behind a sniff.

August 12 best watched on Tv rather than from the back straight............good luck pearson and tatum.....

Ow joy the great bogeyman is back “just wait and see how poor Berwick is on the TV”.

That bogeyman isn’t as scary this time as it was last year after Berwick produced an excellent meeting on the TV, which Nigel and Kelvin actually explained rather well. As they so often do, both do a great job getting the sport over.

Rather than worrying about meetings that can be poor, I will stick to anticipating what could be a great battle between two sides who are starting to form a decent rivalry this season due to the balance of both teams.

Don't worry, Heppy will eventually get some grip into the track, at the moment I am sure the right thing to do was scrape all that loose stuff off the track, by any stretch of the imagination it could not have been be described as grip. Remember, with loads of shale on it you could not even use the outside line, after 2 to 4 heats the bit of shale that was on the inside was now against the fence, with just the centre of the track left to race on, 'ONE LINE RACING' or as described 'GATE & GO'.

A note to wobbly memories about the (excellent) Sky meeting at Berwick last season.

"Nigel and Kelvin" most certainly didn't make anything of it at all, as the presenters were Nigel and Chris. Who did indeed do a great job.

Mr Tatum didn't make a return to Berwick, and we will have to await August 12th to find out if he'll be on hand this time around.

Isn't Kelvin Tatum a hero at Berwick?

Well.. He kindly stayed at the back of the final heat of the 4TT in 2002 to give us the title... Became a hero at that point

Sadly his season was ended by a nasty crash at Oxford, which also claimed Swede Micheal Blixt as another victim, infact I think it ended Blixt`s career.
