What % Of British Speedway Supporters Actually Post And/or Only Read Whats Said On The British Speedway Forum?

Look in the Members list. You will find many who joined then never posted. Some of these "non-members" go back many years. If a Moderators cull of those who have not posted - say in the past 18 months was made - I would calculate that 14,000 base would be around 3,500 (and that's being favourable). Of that total I reckon there are no more than 200 who actively post on here.

A couple friends of mine have been members on here for years. Thiey never posts their opinions but enjoy reading the league and international threads.

You would have these people 'eliminated', Mein Fuhrer?

I must of been one of those "guests" who only peered in. It was'nt by choice though. For the last 12 months I have been trying to join but could'nt, so many times I gave up until I had a yearning to contribute to what was being said but could'nt get to join again, and again.

I was filling in the "joining form", answering the question etc but when I pressed the button to join I would get a message to say I would receive an email shortly, usually immediately..... but I never did. This happened every time, so often, so I was always a "guest". I even found an email address but never got replies. Then just couple weeks ago, I tried again, got the same messages, found another email to go to (cant even remember where I found it) and someone replied to say no reason I should not of got the emails, but he had "manually" joined me. So here I am.

I did wish joining was easier/quicker.... and no, information coming back to me was not going into my email junk box cause I see all my emails on my providers server (so I can delete what I dont want before it hits my computer.

I am not new to speedway, went from the late fifties to early eighties, went to Poland in '76 to see PC win at Katowice, raced cycle speedway in the mid/late 60's, rode a bit of club grass tracking in the early 70's, but not been for 30 years or more UNTIL last year, 2013. Picked up the speedway GP's on Eurosport and fell in love with it again. Went to Cardiff last year and going again in 2 weeks time.

So whilst I know a bit about speedway, modern riders and teams are new to me, and the organisations behind the running of speedway confuse me.

But if I stick it out on the forum I am sure it will come clearer.

Joe

I use to come on here nearly all the time and write topics but when certain people stared to get negative and personal then I just stopped. I still look on here from time to time but not as much. Im glad that this topic has started and im sure that there are more people out there that don’t go on here anymore as to the bulling. I still attend speedway meetings and love the sport but for writing a topic or even leaving a comment I just don’t do so much. Im sure im not alone.

Perhaps it's just me but I think the forum is fine as it is and doesn't need any killing off of members or to make it a closed board. ( I'll defend the right to keep Pawprint alive to the bitter end.)

What is needed though is a sense of humour which sadly some don't seem to possess.

Agreed. The thing that gets me on here are those who constantly post, but constantly moan about the place its members and the mods!!!! Don't like it,go somewhere else or start your own forum......oops!

No.Really i don't.Having had a look at a few threads over the past couple of days it seems a number of members have had problems with a certain poster,so i have no idea if this "other fellow" is one of them or someone else.....

What i would say is that there does seem to be a problem with multiple user names or just constant changing of user name.We have seen over the years people saying they are leaving and then coming back with a new name or people having a number of user names. So i must admit to being a bit wary when a new member comes along and starts posting a lot and in a certain style etc. Those people who have abused the forum in the past have made me cautious

Perhaps the BSF can be a little intimidating to newcomers but I would think this is common with most forums. I think it is fine like it is as I don't come on here to read nursery rhymes. Some of the more aggressive posters can also be quite comical at times.

Exactly the sort of comment that belittles the BSF.

A cull as I suggested would need advice by the Mods to give a warning as to what is proposed and for those who might be affected to intimate to the BSF that they would like their membership to continue not one of there that only joined in 2005 and there is no indication they have visited since.

Another good idea would be to make the BSF a closed board so that one would need to log-in each time one needed to view and/or make a comment?

Why??

Absolutely no benefit to what you are suggesting.

There are some really really knowledgeable posters on here, most in fact, who could probably answer any question you have about speedway

There are also some posters (very few)who are absolutely spoiling for an arguement and will dismiss your opinions as absolute tosh because your post count Is low,

Newbie on a forum doesn't mean newbie to the sport

Long and short, I read this forum as a guest for years, some people would be put off by the abuse thats thrown about, that maybe whats preventing them registering. I know for fact the snide comments made would never be said to a persons face as most making the comments are weasles

We all love the sport, but you get idiots in all walks of life

I know lots of people that are members and only read. I know some that post on the odd occasion, as is their right. I also know people who had never even heard of the BSF until I mentioned it to them. Posting isn't for everyone, I can totally understand that, it can get it bit OTT and I've been in amongst some of it :P Just because we all love Speedway, it doesn't mean we have the same ideas, thoughts, opinions. We are all still human, being on a forum or a supporter of Speedway doesn't mean we should all be the same. Life isn't like that, so why should this forum be?

I actually prefer the forum now to when I first joined in 2006. No cliques for starters!!. I've met some of my best friends here and what a motley bunch they are :D LOL

You can have a good laugh, have a good debate and it's the first place I look for info about Speedway stuff. If I have a constant issue with someone I just scan by the post and read those I want to. Other than that, I put them on ignore .....I have no doubt some feel the same about me!

Long live the BSF :t:

Sometimes i do wonder if "we all love Speedway".I wonder what the point is of coming onto a GP thread and posting that someone thought the stadium wasn't as good as those in the football World Cup or the atmosphere wasn't as good as in Brazil!!!!!I mean that isn't news to anyone and in all honesty, what sport can compete with the football world cup? Also wonder what the point is in coming on here and saying speedway isn't as good as stock cars etc.......maybe it is just me,but i really don't get the point if someone does love speedway.

It is that sort of post or posts from others who don't actually attend that slag off British speedway saying it isn't as good as Polish etc which they watch on the internet.Constant sniping from people who don't attend and have no intention of attending makes you wonder if they are doing it because they love the sport and want to see it as good as it was back in the 50s or 60s or are just sniping for the fun of it/boredom

Yes it is.

The fans were so much more clever and PC ten years ago when I found this place by googling a certain Billy Janniro (my almost hero back then) incident in a motel in California. The level of discussion was SO MUCH better...

And actually as I've recently found out, "Wheels on the bus" is a killer, almost compares to Thriller!!!!:lol::rofl::drink:
