What % Of British Speedway Supporters Actually Post And/or Only Read Whats Said On The British Speedway Forum?

Recommended Posts

I think this is a great Thread. I totally agree that we need to be friendly to new Forum Members. I commend Shale Searcher for the original Post.

I would also say that we could do more to be friendly to the Members of longer standing - but - as I argue with most of them, perhaps I should keep quiet about that. (only joking)

I think that a Section "Speedway for Beginners" is a great idea. This Forum, for all it's faults, is a superb resource. We have Promoters, Managers, Riders and Supporters on here - so much experience. It would be great to be able to help new Supporters understand our belovéd Sport better. Being able to do so would, perhaps, encourage those with less experience to stick around and thus learn the various nuances of Speedway. You never know - it might even encourage some of the Forum's Guests to sign up AND try to sample our wonderful Sport.

WELCOME to the Forum Shale Searcher and Hammers66. :t::approve:

Great post and thanks mate!

My next mission is to pick MY team. Think it's gonna be Lakeside Hammers as I am a West Ham fan and LH's are the closest team to me along with Kent Kings.

Good luck with whoever you choose to Support. You will find that most Speedway Supporters are a friendly bunch. If you have problems filling in the Programme - just ask whoever is standing next to you and I am sure they will help - they did me - fifty odd years ago.

ENJOY your Speedway - that is the main thing.

So, who starts a new thread section, this comes under

BSF ---> SPEEDWAY ---> SPEEDWAY NEWS & DISCUSSIONS. Then there's a sub topic -----> INJURED RIDERS

Do we need another sub section called [sPEEDWAY FOR THE BEGINNER]

Then questions can be asked and answered.. hopefully!!

Can a moderator start this off?

We have a lot of well meaning hardcore fans on here but unfortunately and this is not going to be a popular comment but thanks to a lack of order and moderation by those that run the site it has fallen to a level where arguments and abuse are the things which people outside the BSF associate it with, multiple aliases etc etc its no wonder that the BSF has become a dirty word especially to those who run the sport.

There is so much wrong with British Speedway but the trouble is because the BSF is associated with a negative slant, promoters assume that any negative comment made on here is being made for the sake of continuing that negativity, i am sure most if not all people involved in running the sport don't read it anyway.

The BSF is really the daily sport equivalent of a news paper stand and it might be too far gone for it to be turned around into a creditable voice of the people.

And go stand on the back straight on the stock car track opposite the start/finish gate or to the right of that so you can see the action on the 2nd bend, you'll be closest to the track you can get :-)

It is always nice to see new members on here and I hope that they all feel welcome here.

The only down side is that a few people on here and it is only a few who spoil it for other. Who make comments about other posters that all you can say about them is that they are downright rude. I hope that this fails to put new members from staying and enjoying the posts of those that really love the sport of speeway and are only to glad to help others to get the most out of and to understand and enjoy the sport of speedway.

I go to Leicester when I can which is not enough it is 25 miles away and the nearest track to me. Being in a wheelchair and at times not being that well, I am afraid that me and my 9 year old granson manage to get there about 5 times a year if we are lucky these days. What with fuel cost and then the admission prices I sometimes fail to come up with the money need to go to as many meeting as I would like to. Gone are the days of getting to all the meetings as I now find driving any great distance a big osticle.

I hope that the sport gets back to its hey day with full stadiums. But there needs to be something done to draw the crowds back again.

Hi, I have sent the following message to the forum boss!,let's hope he/she will action the request.

Hi, please can you start a new sub section in Speedway news and discussions, we would like it calling "SPEEDWAY, HELP FOR BEGINNERS"

It will contain questions from New registrations about all aspects of Speedway. Can it also be pinned please, with the ability to start new topics/threads with it.

If you look at my topic started this morning at 03:30, loosely about % of Speedway fans that post/read the BSF you will see the interest this new ideas has already generated.

Cheers;

Shale Searcher

In my experience, good choice :approve:

An attractive team, good presentation and I'd say one of the best race tracks in the EL.

I think you're wrong.

True, the BSF has its share (more than its share) of wind up merchants, trolls and abuse but it represents free speech for the speedway community. To me, I am quite prepared to put up with the former for the sake of the latter and give me the BSF any time over an official forum or facebook page.

The BSF has a bad name with those that run the sport because it is both out of their control and comment is frequently critical. The fact that that criticism is often completely justified - at least based upon the facts available to the fans on the terraces - cuts no ice with them whatsoever.

There are some excellent posters on here who care deeply about speedway and engage in fair and reasoned debate about all aspects of the sport. They offer informed opinion, make positive and considered suggestions and have only the best interests of speedway in mind.

The way I see it, the fact that such persons are disregarded or lumped in with the minority of wind up artists and trolls here by the BSPA says more about that organisation than it does about the members of this forum.

Great post.

On another forum I read this week someone started a thread, "Do Forums Attract Negative People?" It's how it works, for whatever reason - I tend to find most sports forums i read has people moaning, saying the sport is bad, need changing, newbies would be appalled etc etc. We to a stock car meeting a few years back, reading one of the forums and they all said it was poor and new fans would be unimpressed etc but I enjoyed the meeting!

It says nearly 14000 members but most have probably never posted or left because of the negativity from some people. Don't know how many speedway fans there are, but probably small percentage on here if looking at the thousands who watch league and Cardiff Grand Prix speedway or are just armchair viewers/keyboard warriors, or ex-fans without a team to support. A few peeps only post on General Discussions.

At least the forum enables fans to discuss the sport, not heard of in those heydays of speedway.

If all the people with multiple personalities were stopped it wouldn't be many. :nono::t::cheers:

some people have very complex personalities, bordering on personality disorder's, (including speedway fans),,, but would it be fair to stop them posting on here ???

Yes and no.

I regard someone who says they are a speedway fan but never goes as akin to someone who says they love ice cream but never eats it (although I do take on board the fair point about cost).

The thing is if you don't go you can't comment on a significant range of important factors other than by hearsay (or watching it on the box, which gives only a small snapshot).

Quality of racing across the tracks, presentation at meetings and condition of stadiums and their facilities are all vitally important to the sport in this country; I can give honest and fair opinions on all of them, you can't.

yeah,,, have you seen the full price of 'Ben & Jerry's',,, I love it, but can only have it when it's on offer, Half price, maybe that's what some speedway fan's need ???,,, a dunno :-)
