What % Of British Speedway Supporters Actually Post And/or Only Read Whats Said On The British Speedway Forum?

Recommended Posts

I was just thinking this evening, most of the stuff posted on this forum looks like it's posted by the same old, same old people most of the time, Including me!

I wonder what % of the total number of British Speedway Supporters that actually is? It also makes me wonder what the balance of non posters actually think?

There must also be a large number of People/Speedway supporters that read, but don't post, you know, that number quoted that represents guests viewing the forum, but not allowed to post as guests. I wonder why they don't join the forum and post their opinions on British Speedway, perhaps we need to know what % we are of the British Speedway Community........?

Perhaps we need to be more welcoming to new posters? I have seen posts by forum "Newbies" perhaps their comments have/were/are not as knowledgeable about Speedway as us hard-core fans, but some of our responses have been downright rude (on occasion)

Perhaps we need to be more welcoming ourselves to newbies, if I had visited a Speedway meeting for the first time tonight, didn't understand something, did the "modern thing" and went o nnline for answers, asked a question that the answer is obvious to us, and one of us answers in an acerbic manner, it would probably put them off Speedway for ever?

What do you all think?

Yes you are dam right that fans should be more welcoming on here!

It is very common to have a high % of readers than posters. The viewing numbers of the forum have been pretty constant for the last 3 years. How that follows with the attendance to tracks going down ?

With speedway prices going up some people have over the last 3 to 5 years had to make cuts or choices with where they spend their money and I think the diehard fans who go week in week out have lowered and pick and choose their meeting and as result don’t post on the forum as often.

People lives are always changing, start families, change jobs, buy houses, retire etc. Speedway seems to attract less new fans to tracks than it losses through natural changing in circumstances.

Shale that is a top post mate. I am new to speedway. Been into it for about two months and the board did come across as a little foreboding when I first joined. There were a few replies that seemed really negative about the sport and I thought this was bad as speedway seems as though it could do with all the support it can get right now.

I have also held back from asking certain questions because it seemed people were more prepared to dig you out for rather than help with any queries. That is not to say that it has all been bad. The forum gives me great insight into the sport and the majority of people seem to be really good posters here and I keep coming back, so something must be right.

I am still learning about the sport and i'm not sure if there is one here already but a thread for newbie questions would be good. That way, people replying there will know that the questions are from people not in the know. Just an idea.

My next step is actually going to some meetings. I don't drive but I will do my utmost to see the sport live. I buy Speedway Star each week and watch as many live meetings online but for me I want to attend and put money into the sport.

Cheers to all that make this forum a really great place to come to for speedway related stuff.

Well I don't as my team died a long time ago and it's too expensive and not really worth the cost but I am still a speedway fan and as entitled to an opinion on the sport as anyone else :)

Actually I thought this thread was a competition

Yes and no.

I regard someone who says they are a speedway fan but never goes as akin to someone who says they love ice cream but never eats it (although I do take on board the fair point about cost).

The thing is if you don't go you can't comment on a significant range of important factors other than by hearsay (or watching it on the box, which gives only a small snapshot).

Quality of racing across the tracks, presentation at meetings and condition of stadiums and their facilities are all vitally important to the sport in this country; I can give honest and fair opinions on all of them, you can't.

I must admit that sometimes I draw the conclusion that the majority of posters on this forum don't actually attend meetings at all.

I do :-D

It does annoy me immensely that there are people with multiple names, how sad!

Re the section for newbie fans, great idea, do it :-)

Or just, "Speedway for beginners", with sub headings?

I think this is a great Thread. I totally agree that we need to be friendly to new Forum Members. I commend Shale Searcher for the original Post.

I would also say that we could do more to be friendly to the Members of longer standing - but - as I argue with most of them, perhaps I should keep quiet about that. (only joking)

I think that a Section "Speedway for Beginners" is a great idea. This Forum, for all it's faults, is a superb resource. We have Promoters, Managers, Riders and Supporters on here - so much experience. It would be great to be able to help new Supporters understand our belovéd Sport better. Being able to do so would, perhaps, encourage those with less experience to stick around and thus learn the various nuances of Speedway. You never know - it might even encourage some of the Forum's Guests to sign up AND try to sample our wonderful Sport.

WELCOME to the Forum Shale Searcher and Hammers66. :t::approve:
