Birmingham Future In Doubt ? Alan Phillips Has Had Enough!

Recommended Posts

It's called "speculating to accumulate" and if you (or anyone else at the Bees) can't recognize one of the most obvious circumstances speedway could encounter of this simple economic principle, then you're well and truly in the dinosaur age down at Brandon.

Less than 20 miles away from Brandon, despite what were clearly dwindling attendances at Perry Barr, there are still several hundred "weekly paying" Brummie fans who suddenly in mid-season have no team of their own to follow but might be a bit more tempted to (at least temporarily) switch their support to Coventry if the mildest of sweeteners were pushed their way by the Bees.

All Starman2006 was suggesting (and has explained further since) was "some sort of offer" ... for example, how about nominating one Coventry home meeting in a few weeks' time where anyone who brings along 3 different Brummie programmes from this season gets £2 off admission along with that night's programme free of charge.

Ok, on that night some Coventry regulars might be able to save a few quid off what they'd normally give you if they can cobble together the required Brummie programmes without having been to Perry Barr themselves.

But surely that modest downside is worth risking for the PR-upside of the Bees being seen to have considered all of Birmingham's supporters (not just the relatively modest number of season-ticket holders because speedway doesn't have the same season-ticket culture attached to football in particular), the financial upside of still getting significant gate receipts from the Brummie fans who take up that offer ... and, most of all given the Brummies look most likely to settle for Premier League status if any revival happens at all, encouraging the current Brummie fans to make future visits to Coventry if their own team's once again in a different league to Coventry from 2015 onwards.

And I doubt many of Coventry's "weekly payers" will complain about still having to pay full price that night compared to Birmingham's "weekly payers" if it's properly explained in advance that this is a one-off marketing gesture reflecting the horrible situation at Perry Barr.

Your reaction to all of this so far ... confusion ... then bemusement.

Better stick to chatting with your pterodactyl and stegosaurus pals, hadn't you ? !!

Arthur i wouldn't bother mate, clearly many on here would be very happy to see the EL go to the wall, brain dead springs to mind.

How am I a troll? Yet another thing you don't understand.

Your suggestion is useless - have you not gathered that? There's nothing to be debated - it's garbage. You've been asked to demonstrate how your idea will work - you can't. So, as usual we get this pathetic drivel.

Absolutely bang on again AC!

Up until a change in my working circumstances at start of 2014 season,I'd missed approximately 20-25 Brummies Speedway meetings both home and away since our comeback in 2007.Sponsored riders at Brum, helped out financially with testimonial meetings for riders(Jason Lyons,Danny King),did my bit for speedway updates and introduced work colleagues and friends to speedway racing, and this is what it has come to!! One incredibly sad day indeed for all of those involved in bringing speedway back to the Second City!!I'm absolutely done in!!

I really do hope we have a future!

Emotive post BJ and a good one too..

All the best to the Brummies (and their fans) - it's a hard time for all clubs with the shambles that the EL currently is.

Hoping that the Brummies will be back in 2015 :t:

What starman suggests is, in reality, probably unworkable but the idea is actually a good one. There are a good few hundred people with clearly an affinity to speedway and no club to support. It is likely the bulk of theae will be lost to the sport so any initiative to get them along to another track is a good idea. That said implementing such a scheme without alienating your existing fan base would be difficult to the point of impossible

Thank you Oldace, suggestions need to be made, otherwise in 3 years time there will be no EL, simple as that. But the one's who scoff ideas are the ones who probably really couldn't give a monkeys if the EL survived or not..

Why do weekly paying Brummies fans feel that they need an invite to attend Brandon?

They don't. But an incentive might persuade them to

Oldace is right.

Why shouldn't ideas to get speedway fans who might be otherwise lost to the sport be considered ?

Just heard Gramah Dury on wm he stated the club was run by people who did not know what they were doing,if that was the case why did he leave and make them struggle on alone.

Perhaps he was repeatedly thwarted in attempts to turn things around and came to the conclusion nothing he did would make any difference under Phillips ?.

Almost 200 Birmingham season ticket holders, so good PR move from Bees, but seeing they are only tenants not really much income for the Bees promotion, apart from programme and maybe a bit of merchandise.

Can't see why or how they should/could implement something for Brum's non season ticket holders? How do propose they would manage it Art?

It certainly wouldn't be elementary for my dear Watson!

Perhaps he was repeatedly thwarted in attempts to turn things around and came to the conclusion nothing he did would make any difference under Phillips ?.

Perhaps he was totally fed up with being totally undermined all the time, realised what was going on behind the scenes and wanted no part of it! Not many employees quit half way through a half decent contract for the sake of it!

Hang on, people having a go at the Bees promotion for not offering Birmingham fans cheaper admission? I suppose the forum isnt the same without slagging off Horton. This must be a joke. They will honour Birmingham season tickets and anyone with a season ticket at any club can get into Brandon for a tenner, I dont know what more the man can do. Does more than most to entice fans to meetings.
