Silencers

Recommended Posts

Just come back to speedway after many years away.

Read in a post that there seems to be some controversy relating to silencers and they being dangerous (sure thats what it was saying)

Whats the story on this?

Already a Thread on this issue. :)

Already a Thread on this issue. :)

So I type in "silencers" in the search box and get trillions of threads (well, maybe not trillions but seems like a lot), which I dont fancy trawling through, so I will just live in ignorance for a bit longer till it pops up again.

I was only trying to help hence the Smiley. I thought that you might find the information you wanted there.

Thanks for the Link Alan. :t:

All I will add before going through that thread is all the fears have been laid to bed. Rider's and engine tuners have it nailed after a few years. No crashes or mechanical issues are related to the silencers at all.

What we don't know is, are rider's still attacking these with drills? The reason I ask is that Eddie Kennett's form has picked up again

IF you really believe that then you must also believe in Santa Claus... so many crashes these days can be directly related to problems caused by the silencers.

So in your opinion, the changed engine design in the same time period ( shorter stroke for instance) has no role in it?

How do the silencers cause crashes? Sorry if this is old news, but new to me

A modern speedway engine withe super light flywheels and short stroke motors has no capability to keep revving when it hits some dirt. When it does so it will kill the revs and lift the bike up or send it of in the direction of the fence. The new silencers merely compounded a problem that the riders and tuners themselves have developed over the years

The bikes react differently to how they used to... Especially in heavy dirt, however, tuners have been trying to tune the problem out, but it's not consistent, hence still a problem, not as bad, but still exists.. in my opinion.

HI Phil!

Since you'll be keeping rain with Kelvin tomorrow in Riga, ask him about this. About offset engines and silencers combined. I had other things on top of my mind when I had the chance.

It seems this is carrying on under the Gorzow gp-30th August Thread.
