Lakeside V King's Lynn 20th June 2014

Recommended Posts

Nothing wrong with scoring 9. PK scored more than Mikkel Bech. PK is always consistent what you see is what you get with PK a solid scorer week in week out.

With Watty out he should be top scorer

9 points is poor??

Haven't people been asking the SAME tired question for about 6 seasons now.

The answer is a simple NO.

It is poor from 6 rides and he is supposed to be your best rider

This track gets a lot of stick, but there's been some very good meetings on it lately.

I think that perception is directed to the fact it's small and offers tremendous home advantage because of it's uniqueness. Saying that, I thought last night it there was a good surface and varying lines and provided decent racing. Strange meeting. We started off so well winning the first 6 heats building a lead of 8 points. Then lakeside upped their game and provided good gating and brilliant team riding turning the match around in their favour. Niels and Scotty were masterful with three 5-1's, their second bringing us back into contention. But Lakeside reacted brilliantly to win Ht 14 when it mattered and destroyed any chances we may have thought we had of winning.

Although we lost, I hope now, the Stars have destroyed that myth that we don't do any good at Lakeside, and go there in the future with the knowledge we can compete with them on their track. Well done lads. Didn't want the run to end, but with the monkey off our back now, we just go out and do the business...... :t::t::t:

Just a quick thanks to the guests last night, Scotty and Blackbird rode brilliant securing good points, Graversen was always going to find it hard, but you couldn't fault his effort.......

What occurred with the crash? And what has been tweeted? PLEASE! :o

I spoke to one of the riders in the meeting. It seems Davy was leading the race and a win would have given him overall first place in the meeting. According to what I was told, Somolinski basically dived at him in much the same way as NP went into Matej

in the GP last weekend, only with more serious results than the Pedersen/Zagar incident. Apparently it was so blatant people could see it coming. Smolinski was riding in his home town so there was no way the referee was going to exclude him, so I was told. In fact it seems to have been a poorly refereed match all round.

The thing that annoyed the rider I spoke to was that Smolinkski never went to see Davy afterwards to apologise or see if he was OK.

Smolinski has history of this sort of thing. Last year he torpedoed Richard Lawson at Brum and put him out for a couple of weeks, but again never spoke to him and instead behaved like a child because the referee excluded him. Then a few years ago, there was the more well known incident when he caused quite bad injuries to Rory doing the same thing, plus a few other incidents with less serious results.

I gather there are a few riders who won't be too upset if Karma catches up with Smoli.

Like any other track Lakeside has its good meetings and its bad ones. Unfortunately there are a couple of posters, one of whom apparently hates Jon Cook, and the other has an identity crisis who come on here going into overdrive about the negatives and never give credit for the positives of the track.. Last night was a decent meeting because Kings Lynn had 3 decent heatleaders who know how to ride the track.

As to the meeting full credit to Ben Morely and Richard Lawson. Richard came in last year as second choice 3-point reserve with a reputation that he couldn't ride small tracks. He showed terrific dedication to his task, learned the track and was voted Rider of the Year 2013 by the fans. This year he has progressed to a fully established second string topping the scores at times, as he did last night with paid 13.

Although Ben doesn't perhaps have the flair of his FTDR colleague Adam Ellis he has focussed on what he does best , good gating and riding a steady line. He has also come on a lot this year as 8 paid 10 last nigh showed.

When a second string and a reserve put 19 points on the board between them, it takes hell of a lot pressure of the heatleaders, especially when you have riders like NKI in town. So I thought these two really deserve credit for Lakesides win and both must be in the running for Rider of the Year award this year so well done to both of them.

Looking back with hindsight it seems that if Lakeside had both Davey and Lewis the Hammers would likely have taken all 3 points but having said that, I would gladly have taken two points before the meeting even with Davy and Lewis riding..

So good effort by the Hammers and well done to KL for making it as decent match.

Don't think its a question of perception where Lakesides track is concerned. It just doesn't 'flow' for want of a better term.

The straights are too close together so you have to 'come out of the throttle' to use a Tatumism when dropping in to the turns. You can actually see the riders arm come up as they slow down to a crawl through the turns.

When you compare it to Mildenhall the difference is startling. Its tiny but its fast which proves its all about the shape.......

That was for a tapes offence. The question is can reserves come in as a straight swop for a rider in the 1-5?

In a meeting, either reserve can replace any of the 1-5, as long as the minimum 3 ride rule is adhered to or a rider withdraws from the meeting due to injury, in which case the Ir/r rule kicks in allowing any rider below the injured rider's average to replace him!

Does your hindsight also tell you that Porsing would most likely have outscored Graversen?? Although our other 2 guests did the job we sorely missed Niklas!!
