I don't believe his performance on Saturday would have counted against him but not having a big home track and his lack of continental experience probably has unfortunately. Woffinden and Cook should have been automatic picks, and so should Harris who always seems to pull his tripe out for the SWC even when off form. I'd have gone with King as the fourth rider ahead of Barker, Stead, and the rest....reserve berth between Barker and Stead. Although Rosco has got Cook and Stead the wrong way round it won't make a lot of difference, as Cook, King, Stead, Barker, Bridger etc are all much of a muchness, and all are equally likely to either shine or go missing without any predictability. If I was in charge of the BSPA and the GB team. I'd have added Howarth, Lambert, Garrity and Blackbird to the 10 man squad and run a Team GB v Team GB training match at King's Lynn within the fortnight before the World Cup starts. Teams of Woffinden, Cook, Worrall, Bridger, Kerr, Lambert, Garrity against Harris, King, Stead, Barker, Lawson, Howarth, Blackbird would allow everyone to feel a part of the GB team and see who looks best on the King's Lynn track. 3 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Good thinking if you are looking to progress young talent but that's not what the World Cup is all about. There is clearly a need for us to return to a few Test matches that could surely be arranged, then the kids could be blooded without the pressure. Whist having an eye on the future we mustn't neglect to remember the importance of today. However on his showing in the GP on Saturday am not surprised he has been left out of the team proper. Cook isnt good enough at this level proved time and again. I agree that Stead is a backward step but apart from Stead and Barker who else is there? Do we want to do as good as we can or put the kids in and get humiliated? That will do them wonders! Frankly we could have limited ourselves to FTR riders and beat Italy (Kerr, Blackbird, Garrity and Newman). As for America they have Hancock who will beat anyone we send (Woffy apart but he was always going!), Wells who frankly we should be looking to beat whoever we send then Manzares (who again should be being beat by FTD riders) and erm, well, Bobby Schwartz?! So in that respect Stead will beat all the Italians and all but Hancock while finishing behind all the Aussies. Robert Lambert, Craig Cook and Richie Worrall could all do that but are younger! Stead, really? He failed in the SWC as a youngster, he failed when at his peak so why the hell is he being given another chance? It's not as if he's riding well this season. He's averaging less as a second string than a poorly performing Cook is as a heatleader. Robert Lambert is averaging more this season from the same position for FFS!! Kind of understand King. Okay he didn't do great last year and he didn't have the best of nights at Cardiff apart from his first ride but do you honestly believe that bringing in Simon Stead who is riding against NL riders in the EL is going to do much better? ColinMills Posted July 14, 2014 Report Share Posted July 14, 2014 i think everyone on here will differ with opinions of the 4 chosen....in which is there given right..stead imo is awful choice, king has stagnated yonks back..TAI/HARRIS were nailed on..me personally would of gone cook and barker.....and for me, barker ONLY because lack of options!.....i simply dont see stead scoring above 4pts, with king, i see probabably a gate to flag win in one race, then the usual 0,1,2,1 mediocre sequence..
