Tai Woffinden Gardening

Recommended Posts

In sport, as in most areas of life, we tend to only make rules to deal with matters that we have seen occur before and need attention.

As far as I can remember I have never seen a Speedway rider use a shovel to remove dirt from another gate position and use it to improve his own.

Now this most unlikely of events HAS happened, it will need a 'rule' to be introduced.

Such is life..

Tai did little that was completely new last night with all his gate-gardening ... all he did was keep testing how far the referee would let him go with his various antics only to keep finding out it appeared he could do whatever he wanted, not least because Sky seemed perfectly happy to be showing such daft scenes even if it meant their coverage overran even further.

Several years ago at Owlerton when Pepe Franc (always a prolific gate-gardener given the chance) was riding for Sheffield against a Glasgow side managed for the evening by their centre-green announcer at the time Michael Max, Pepe cheerfully moved several lumps of the startline fence's dirt into gate-3.

That prompted Michael to stroll from the 4th-bend pits to within a few feet of Pepe (still busy dirt-shifting) while furiously gesturing along the lines of "come on ref, that's surely not allowed !!".

Given the respective sizes of the two of them, it was an absolutely hilarious Little and Large show and, as far as I'm aware, the ref on that occasion didn't do anything either.

I think we're basically seeing speedway fans revealing their true colors.

It doesn't matter what happens, all they want to do is moan.. and moan.. and moan.

We hear whinging there are no characters, no incidents etc over and over... then as soon as we get someone show some character, provide some amusement many of the same folk are up in arms.

The same can be applied to the GP with Pedersen/Zagar.

As for the allegations that Tai took 'all' the dirt from the other gates.. hilarious if you believe that is the case.

Do people really, truly believe that those two little shovels of dirt he collected from the pile of dirt under the fence (where incidentally Harris couldn't put his bike) made that much difference? Harris should have won by miles if that was the case with the amount of dirt he had available to him.

Then we hear allegations of 'delaying the start'? How exactly was he doing that? The 2 minutes wasn't on, extra time was being given to the riders who had fallen to sort their equipment out. At least he was providing a bit of amusement for the crowd, or perhaps they'd prefer to just look at an empty track.

As for the 'farce' of the re-runs.. again, such b****y moaning. I thought it was superb. Each re-run just added to the tension. We had riders who desperately wanted it and weren't going to budge an inch to achieve it (bar Harris) and that is the epitomy of sport.

That will be why you are not a referee then isn't it.

Top, top post and sums it all up perfectly.

Quality post and completly hit the nail on the head. As for any sport if the ref will allow something to happen then so be it. Barker and cook were gardening just as much. True class rose to the top in the final.

At the end of the day Woffy did not ride good enough throughout the qualifying Heats to be seeded straight through to the final.

The whole point of being in the top 2 is that you get seeded into the final and also you get to have the best Gates in the final.

We all saw Cookie trying everything to make his Gate better didn't we? but when Cookie finished gardening Woffy just went and ruined Cookies Gate.

I know fellow members are going to say that Harris is a poor starter but Bomber was on the worst Gate but that didn't stop Woffy taking stuff off of Bombers Gate.

When I say arrogant I just mean little things whenever I watch a GP the riders who finish on the podium always raise a glass to each other and last night Woffy just poured the whole bottle over Cookie and then just threw the bottle away lucky it never hit someone.

I just didn't like the interview of course you would make 4 perfect starts because you have nicked everything off of the other riders.

Woffy done a Bob Dugard I have heard many members say that what Bob does at Eastie is wrong (I Agree) the only difference was Woffy didn't have a tractor to use.

And when he had finished gradening , threw the shovel down . (not to worry heh ? some pleb will clear up after me because I'm Tai Woffinden ) probaly so he could stand at the gate hands on hips, posing while waiting for a servant to bring his bike like little Lord Fauntleroy ,

Jealousy isn't a good trait you know.

You are right in one thing though, he is Tai Woffinden. He's the World Speedway Champion. He is the leader of this seasons World Championship. He is the current and 2 time British Champion.

He doesn't have a servant, he has someone he employs and pays to bring his bike to him.

Jason Garrity also had a bike brought to him, how very dare he!

Awwww.. poor boy.

You can bleat and bleat and bleat all you like, it won't change a thing.

Tai Woffinden is British Champion and for his fans every post you make about it makes it all the more sweeter :). Keep them coming!

I thought it was cheating myself. Cook and Barker were the top scorers after the qualifying Heats and therefore they had first choice of Gate positions. Obviously Cook and Barker would choose the best Gates with the most grip on however after Woffinden got the rake out the favoured Gates advantage went. Woffinden then decided to nick all of Harris' dirt and therefore Woffy ended up with the best Gate after nicking everything off of the other riders Gates.

I did not like Woffy's interview after by saying I made 4 great starts (Only because Woffy nicked everything off of everybody) it seemed a bit arrogant for me.

I didn't agree or like it tbh. Woffy is a top top rider and Woffy did not have to do what he did it was a shame to see and I have lost a lot of respect for Tai now.

I don't know if it is just me but does Woffy seem to be getting a bit big headed recently?

Usual anti Tai post. Its only cheating if you break a rule. If you show me that rule you might have a point. Yet more bull.

If he didnt break a rule theres no way it was cheating,

He didn't break a rule so it wasn't cheating. End of.

Now I know you are on the wind up.

Of course it is. The new KKS/Shovlar/troll poster.

This poster even admits it posts bull. You just couldn't make it up. :nono:

Yes, a little known incident that provided amusement to up to 1000 people who were at Owlerton that night.

No one else knew, or cared.

But this is Tai.

At the British Final.

On TV.

And the professional moaners can have a field day.

What are the chances that the knee-jerk responders in Rugby will take the opportunity to add in a subsection to the regs?

Given half a chance.

Bizarre and I think Dan Holt may be reflecting on these events. I suggest the refs get together at the end of the year and agree a stance, but it will require co-operation of starting marshal..

I agree. A decision has to be made and then upheld by everyone, including the WC. We have enough fannying around at the gate, but more gate doctoring is not good. You could see in future riders having gate mechanics, as well as pits mechanics. All getting a bit daft and it should be minimum gate work.

Shame really as we are a Speedway family. It's a shame we have members like BWitcher and stevebrum making everything into an argument when there is no need for one if you don't agree then fair enough but there is no need to try and start an argument.

I find all this anti Woffy stuff baffling. We have a rider who is current world champ and is making a great fist of defending it. Hes stayed loyal to our league. 2 time British champ. He can gate or he can pass so as a rider he has it all. And to top it all off hes raising 100k for a British charity.WTF is wrong with people. He took a tiny amount of dirt from under a fence and one of the people who he pays to work for him dared to bring him a bike so now hes a diva with an out of control ego. Some people are absolutely pathetic.

We as British speedway fans should be celebrating someone like him. He knew he had the talent but his attitude was all wrong so he put it right and stopped the sh1te and now hes world champ. Hes an example to endless other British riders with a bit of talent but who will go nowhere in the sport for various reasons.

Diva !! what a great way to describe him , I can't wait to see him pull his diva stunt at the Next GP , well that will be the obvious next step up of course having got away with it at his home track and with a weak referee , It won't matter if he gets penailsed because he can just go back to his pit space and have a few of his blue only M and Ms . and shout at some of the lesser mortals who work for him

I thought much of it was just tongue in cheek fun.

Tai was relaxed and ready to race. Whilst everyone was faffing between the re runs he was just amusing himself.

I didnt see him do anything to interfere with any part of the start the other 3 would use.

If he had the time to get a rake and a shovel then why not. If the 2 mins was ticking he wouldnt have.

Ive seen it a Foxhall this year where other team members have gathered handfuls of loose stuff from near the fence to pack into gate 1 for the rider nominated in heat 15 so its not unique.

Ok, so it appaears Tai didn't break any rules and thus was not cheating although I am surprised no such rule covering excesive gardening exists. So like it or not the other riders could have done the same, but chose not too. However, If they had been on track, then the ref would have put them on two minutes which would have restricted the possibility of them and Tai continuing to garden.

All Tai did was take advantage of the time delay between restarts to improve his chances.

Not sure if now the world champ has shown the way, it will lead to riders rushing out with their bucket and spades betwen heats, but hopefully following an unsatisfactory start some will head straight to the start line instead of the pits which hopefully will speed things up.

Well done Tai on keeping your head and knowing the rules - and no I am not a Wolves fan, but I do love Britain having a World Champion!
