Star Lady
No not about shovels Riders on parade have to wear crash helmets . Three times tonight Woffy's mechanic rode out from the pits round to the start with no crash helmet. Assuming the rule was brought in to avoid head injury, does it cover mechanics? If it doesn't should it?

Mad Potter 2
H&S gone mad it's speedway the riders no what they are doing. The burerocrats sit in there safe offiercies getting paid more than the riders.

ch958
i really miss seeing riders go round bare headed after the intros - perhaps it could be allowed again with a strict speed limit - i don't remember it being a problem in the past - think its important for especially young fans to see the faces of riders - makes a connection
Triple.H.
Do the riders supply there own fuel or does the track provide it I remember they added a dye to it a few years ago and it was supplied at the track
SCB
Isn't the riders wearing helmets at all times more of a local H&S thing that a rule?
Star Lady
Isn't the riders wearing helmets at all times more of a local H&S thing that a rule? I really don't know, but remember when Lynn stopped doing the helmetless parades some fans complained and were told the rules stated they had to wear helmets. If you can't find it in the rule book, I'm fairly confident the rule doesn't exist Personally I think riders should do a helmetless parade BUT under the strict understanding that they pootle round so the young kids (and big kids) get to see them. If they then want to go like the clappers to test stuff they do it in the time allowance before their race. If they did more testing and less gardening it would be more entertaining anyway As with many things in speedway the fans enjoyment seems to come last.
billybikespeedway
can remember Back in the 60's when Parades were Helmet Less, and Poland were the visitors to Somerton Park Edmund Migos set off on his Parade lap at about 50mph doing doing wheelies and clouting the fence ( stayed on though ) but was very erratic
StevePark
I could be wrong (I'm sure someone will correct me if I am), but I think the rule was brought in after Simon Green flipped doing a practice start at Newcastle during the Parade lap and had to withdraw from the meeting due to head injury. Shale Searcher
I thought that it depends on the type of parade.... I believe they get fined if they do a practice start or wheelie without a helmet.... Is that fact or something I have dreamed up....? mikebv
BV used to have the riders wearing helmets on parade but I have noticed that they now no longer do so.. I have noticed though that they all wear their baseball caps back to front so maybe that is the new health and safety regs..?

BWitcher
As someone mentioned earlier, if riders are doing practice starts etc, then it makes sense they should wear a helmet... if they are just trundling around on a parade lap, or bringing a bike to a rider, then I doubt it's necessary. At Wolverhampton, after the rider introductions, the riders then put on their helmets before doing a couple of laps of practice starts etc. That makes sense as some of them are also going into a skid on corners and there are a lot of riders on track. racers and royals
As posters have already stated no practice starts are allowed on parade if riders are not wearing helmets. Rule book 14.2.1 for the clerk of course Ensure the track is clear before any parade is held, instructing riders not to make any practice starts if riders are without helmets.
