Cradley V Stoke Nl 17/6/14

Recommended Posts

Let's get this one started then.

It's the local derby and the Potters have been doing pretty well lately with the only thing they have lost to recently (with apologies to Leicester!)being the weather.

With Wilson and Armo they have a good top two who should ensure some competitive racing. Shame James McBain is missing as he has shown a lot of promise so far this year.

It has the potential to be the best meeting of the season so far in my book.

Heathens to win by 14.

Another massacre. Heathens to win by about 30-35, with the only real Stoke resistance coming from Wilson and Armstrong.

Yes, its a great pity for Stoke that Mcbain is out injured for this one, I think Widman could be a bit of a thorn in the side though Vog, as could Ben Hopwood, so i would expect Stoke to knock in somewhere around the 35 point mark, no mean feat really at Monmore Wood.

Is there no stopping the Heathens steam roller ? another 60+ Ommering, i really think this season could be our swansong in the NL, okay its still early days, but cant see anyone even getting close at Monmore, yeah we may lose 1 or 2 away, in fact thats the best way to watch the Heathens, least its more competitive.

Another meeting where the visitors once again fail to win a race! However it was still a good meeting and when the Heathens didnt gate it was good to watch them pass through the field.

Max Clegg is a class act, give this lad a healthy career and good support and he will go far! Paid Five Ride Max tonight and he only dropped a point when he shredded the tapes and went of 15meters! My favorite rider, he is great with the young fans... always smiling and really has the Heathens at his heart and his speedway home!

Brilliant...Thats what the NL is all all about and Ill happily watch that every week if we keep seeing the talent through!

Yes thats all well and good, But next season Starkie and Steve wont be with us, The season after it will probably be Max and Nathan, this really is where we need our own Track, with a PL and NL Team to see the progression through year on year out.

Oh I know that they wont be with us next year but thats the whole point of this league and what our current set up should be all about. Ok its nice to win and do well but its not the beginning and end all of of things. Maybe next year we will get another 15 year old lad at reserve and we can push him through the NL into the Draft (It must continue) and bigger things.

I enjoy the NL, I am wavering a bit with some of the ommerings as its has caused me to go home wanting a little bit more, but i feel that the NL is forgoten about with the BSPA!

Why on earth last year did they have the EL and PL AGMs together but then the NL had its own when the top and bottom leagues had never been so closely linked before. If the NL had more of say in the AGMs of the EL and PL then maybe the draft would have been even more of a sucsess as there would have been more thought on how to bring the 2014 draft riders through in the future!

Congratulations onthe prediction Vog, you got it spot on.

As others have said it was an entertaining meeting (by our usual standard) and all of the Potters gave it their best shot and gave us a few gating lessons.

I was impressed with Ben Wilson. I have to confess I don't know a great deal about him other than he has been away from the sport for a number of seasons. It wouldn't surprise me to see some Elite League clubs making him an offer soon. I'm guessing he may not have seen too much of Monmore before and if that's the case he did well against some top class riders.

I'm sure the Potters will make it to the play offs and they will be stronger when they get James McBain back.

Hard to see anybody stopping the Heathens though (injuries permitting).

It is nice to see some fair postings on here about the match last night. The Potters certainly struggled on what seems to be becoming a specialist track putting up some resistance but couldn't match the Cradley fire power. Ben Wilson had only ridden there once before, Rob Shuttleworth never, Adam Kirby has very little experience around there as has probably Lee Payne and any team will struggle against a team riding there week in week out. It does seem that wherever the visiting riders place their bikes on the track, the Cradley riders can find a way round them so fair play to them on their track craft.

Clearly with all but one rider doubling up or trebling up, the additional experience is paying dividends and Cradley will take some stopping this year.

I thought the crowd was significantly down on my last visit. Is that just the football influence or the 'ommering' influence?? Not sure. Don't know what you can do about the latter since the team was built within the points limit but the effect of all the additional riding is certainly paying dividends for them.

If the crowd was down, then it would be due to various things, firstly the World Cup, secondly the ommerings, and for some people the irregularity of meetings, it was comaritively local for Stoke fans and we havent had a meeting for weeks, so it should really have been a decent crowd, Im sure the promotion will be taking note of crowd figures, either we dont build such a strong Team or we move up to PL for 2015.

I fear for Scunthorpe next week.

The seven Heathen riders are filling there boots week in week out with good scores and therefore wages!

If they put the money back into their equipment they will go even faster and a good healthy score in this meeting will hopefully see them have money to spend a little on the buisness end of the season!

please don't get me wrong, i was born a Heathen but, scoring 75 next tuesday will not help our riders to become better riders. It will help with bank balance but may not be helpful to Scunthorpe who i wish all the best & support with how they are running their club this year.

I agree that the crowd was noticably down and I think the World Cup would have had plenty to do with that. Holidays are also a factor already. For example in our small group there were five people instead of 12 due to holidays (including a trip to Brazil in one instance).

I agree that the lads are earning plenty of money this year (including another set of sponsorship cheques handed out last night) and that plus the added track time they are getting doubling and trebling up is really starting to show now. I think Armo is a good yardstick to use to measure the lads' progress. He is a good and consistent heat leader at this level and both Cleggy and Greavesie got the better of him. That's real progress for the lads.

I share Pete CC's concern for Scunthorpe next week. I have already upset one or two with my comments about their team building strategy this year and I really struggle to see how being thrashed at home and away with no-one to learn from on the track is going to help their development.

I took no joy in being proven right! Unfortunately Dudley are an incredibly strong team, much stronger than most teams in the league, with only Coventry able to hold a candle to them. In reality, they should sweep all before them, barring any major setbacks.

Still, I took great joy in pointing out that the trophy only counts when it is in the cabinet, and on that basis Stoke are currently 1-0 up ;)
