SCOTLAND1314
It sounded like Edinburgh wanted to continue (and they were losing at the time). It sounds like most of the comments on here suggest that the crowd was happy to wait. So which party wanted to call this off and why? Bottom line is the paying public lost out. george.m
Last time I saw Edinburgh they had more rollers than Hilda Ogden.

Bandit59
The riders lost out too. There were 36 points up for grabs. Yes but only one more race for a result and avoided another postponement from a neutrals point of view
jenga
tony jackson was on look north tonight giving the reasons to calling off the meeting.. all promoters and teams/ref were in agreement. the only people who thought the meeting should carry on were the visiting fans , who were thinking it was some kind of scam by workington about the unfortunate ambulance thing... Lord Lucan
Judging by said report, it may now be worth looking into extra medical cover at DP for future events? Quote was 28 ambulances and 5 rapid response in Cumbria/Nth Lancs area on Saturday but injury to Kyle wasn't deemed serious enough to divert an emergency ambulance hence the 66 minute wait that would have ensued!! They may have set a precedent here, for less than serious injuries, but injuries none the less that need hospital treatment, can we now afford to risk losing another fixture due to losing the only ambulance we currently have in doing the transporting ourselves?

It's the fans that keep the sport alive no doubt a few will give the re-run a miss.Speedway keeps shooting itself in the foot with disregarding the paying public.Better Medical cover is the obvious answer irrespective how often that kind of situation arises. smod
Reading all this, I feel the medical officer at Workington (described by a senior SCB person in my hearing as a "bearded buffoon") is maybe the common denominator in the various incidents when meetings there are abandoned. I was told the gentleman in question was quietly dropped from a role as medical consultant to the sport's authorities a few years ago. I If Kyle Howarth's injury was not deemed serious enough to warrant a county ambulance coming to collect him on an emergency basis, could he not have been moved to the medical room and made comfortable there while running the remaining one (or six) races? After which he could have been transferred the short distance to Whitehaven in the track ambulance?

CADRIFF. .we have the pleasure of himself and his team on hand at workington. kyle was given drugs for the pain he was in and in accordance of the medical rules, the patient was not to be left alone under any circumstances. ok , so people say it was ONLY ankle ligaments and a hand injury. but the pain was sufficient to administer drugs.-the health of the patient is in the hands of the doctor at all times, untill he is handed over the the local A/E hospital... if human beings were classed as parcels, kyle would have been wheeled up to the hospital and left on the door step and hope and preysome one would see him.. there are procedures to go througe when handing a patient,.what drugs/medication they are on andd so forth.cant really understand all this neg about a meeting being cancelled. if 1 of your familt was taken ill at a meeting . then would you want to wait for an ambulance to take them to hospital.. there are only certain people who cant seem to grab this.. mainly the visiting fans.. You can't seem to grasp that the gripe is with the amateurish work by the Workington promotion, not the fact a rider had to goto hospital.
