Belle Vue National Stadium

Recommended Posts

Presumably this lot is being paid for by MCC and not Gordon/Morton (BVAL)...

Yep. Council paying for temp terracing for 1 season before putting permanent terracing in next year

Not permanent though.

Will be permanent next year

I thought Sunderland / Newcastle was your club. Have you been to the National Speedway Stadium yet ?

Belle Vue have been my Club from when I was a child. I am now nearly 72 and still support them and my local Teams too.

My first Team though (apart from Sunderland obviously) was always Belle Vue.

Sadly - I no longer have a Sunderland Team to support and haven't had since 1974.

not even a mention of Newcastle,,, but a suppose supporting NEWCASTLE and sunderland is morally incomprehensible ;)

So I can be clear, is the south side opposite the main stand/start.......... if so........there was covered terracing there in 2016........ which I understand was removed at the end of 2016, along with temporary toilets........... and now, if I am right, in 2017 the ManCity Council are reinstating a stand and toilets which are temporary until next year 2018.

I just got to be wrong with my thinking, but councils do "funny" things at times.

PERMANENT terracing and toilets (and concession facilities) on the south side of the NSS should have been installed by MCC as part of their original agreement with Belle Vue Arena Limited but the Council by their own admission ran out of money. This is one of the reasons why BVAL never officially, took 'possession' of the stadium. It was incomplete ... in other respects, too.

Temporary terracing and toilets were put in place by BVAL (Gordon and Morton) and paid for by them which formed part of the loss assessment of £690,000 arrived at by an independent company. No doubt the company that supplied them were among the creditors at the end of the season which is why they were taken out.

Presumably Belle Vue 2017 have insisted that MCC complete the south side of the stadium as part of their agreement and to ensure that the stadium, if necessary, can operate at full capacity which it could not in 2016 including for the SWC.

BVALs agreement with IMG for staging the 2016 SWC was for a stadium with a capacity of 9,000 but because of MCC restrictions placed on attendance on the south side this wasn't possible. It is the view of IMG that they would have sold 9,000 tickets for the Final had that been permitted and there was a serious loss of revenue because of that.

INCIDENTALLY, some on here have accused me personally and Speedway Star of slanting our original story on the NSS fiasco in favour of David Gordon and that we have been biased in our coverage. I refute that, not least because in the weeks and months before publishing the interview with David Gordon, MCC refused numerous requests to make a comment and also threatened legal action unless we withdrew a number of passages in the piece, which reluctantly we did.

However, now MCC have put everything into the public domain with their official report and, as such, a number of areas that were 'off limits' are no longer so, which is why you can expect a forceful response from David Gordon sooner rather than later.

Honestly ?

Even within a just couple of paragraphs refuting any bias..

It is impossible to avoid seeing that 'slant' in one directon only.

I have been a regular attendee at both Newcastle and Redcar in the recent past and have been made extremely welcome at both Tracks by most people. There is a great camaradie at both Newcastle and Redcar and I would have no hesitation, but for Double Points, returning to watch my Speedway at either. Plenty of witty banter and fun.

Both great Tracks with great Supporters and lovely people.

Twk, although I totally agree with you re the double points lifes to short to miss out on something you enjoy. I go to watch the heathens and keep no record of the score and watch prem meetings and championship meetings were neither team mean a thing to me. It's not the same as it was or even should be but I enjoy my speedway fix in a different way. The passions not there in the same way but it's still a good night out or even night away. Try it you may surprise yourself

Took the words 100% outa my mouth. I'm not a fan of the double points rule either (or at least only award DP for the race winner) nor am I a fan of any current team but don't let one rule ruin your enjoyment, TWK, it's still a great sport....

I can't really understand this because loads of matches are completed without the use of the 'double points' anyway.

I don't think TWK would go even if there wasn't a double points rule, it's just an excuse ....

I'm not brave enough to like that post. :P

It is not an excuse at all. It is a reason - there is a difference.

I would also like to point out that there are times when you have to stand up for what you believe in. I believe that Double Points contrives Results, is cheating and goes against my sporting values. You may not like that - but crucially that is how I feel.

My stance is my right and I don't take kindly to other people presuming to tell me my motives.

I don't ask anyone else to stop going - but personally I will not go until such times as I can enjoy my Speedway again - I will not go to Speedway Meetings in order to get myself upset and angry.

Where is the pleasure in that?

There are folk on this Forum who know how annoyed I get.

No doubt someone has asked this before but did you go when we had tac subs when 6 down?

You don't have to tell me about making a stand over what you believe is right or wrong ......some think it is cutting off our noses to spite our faces though haha

And you could use this numerous times so in with you it's an excuse

Indeed I did - I didn't agree with that either.

It is my contention that there should be nothing that contrives 'close' Results. It is wrong.

However the luminaries at the head of our Sport wish to create a false impression, in the Results, of a close Meeting. Well good luck to them with that - I want nothing to do with it.

As regards "cutting off my nose to spite my face" - some will no doubt look at it that way. However - I have made a stand and I intend to stick with it.

I will be attending Redcar when a Sunderland 'Stars' Team will be racing at Redcar - I am looking forward to seeing the old Sunderland Racejackets back on Track again.

And I'd love to see Hull Vikings back, it means WAY more when it's your own team. There are few things I'm ain't too happy about in modern day speedway but I still enjoy the sport: it's still 4 riders turning left 4 times, no gears or brakes skidding the back wheel to turn, change lines and race. Still, wouldn't ever dream of telling anyone else what to do, or not do, yer pays yer money, etc and do whatever....
