tocha
it also not a borefest like soccer is I had been out all day so didn't get home until 10.30. Toyed with the idea of watching the England v Italy match but, in the end, decided to watch the GP. Glad I made the right choice.
Trees
TBF. my comment on facebook earlier was, "What a wimp Pedersen! Kick him then ride off then goad him when there's enough people around to save you!" but I still don't see how that deserving of a ban! It just makes him a bit of a dick. I guess because Zagar was very lucky to not break his legs when he crashed? So glad some people have seen that Pedersen is NO pantomime villain, he really is a bad on track, but what comes around goes around!
BWitcher
I agree regarding your view of the incident, but Nicki antics in the pits were disgraceful for a professional sportsman .No respect for him. Ah yes, those antics where he's in his own pit stall. Zagar is the one who struck out first, with a pathetic little slap. Then again in the pits another pathetic little slap. Pretty clear Zagar didn't really want any part of Pedersen. It was a racing incident, not a dirty move, Zagar couldn't handle it, he's the one who wasn't professional. Anyway it adds to the entertainment..
Mark
Just seen the replay. Hard move, have seen worse, and nobody hurt. Nicki Pedersen is worth the entry fee by himeself. Good meeting but Nicki made.it better with hard riding. When he has retired we will miss him.

Catalan
Why does Pearson always apologise about the language? Whenever you get two or more irate people with adrenalin pumping the language will be colourful. If they don't like it don't stick the camera in volatile situations.

Antics, it was Zagar who decided to go over and argue with Pedersen, what do you expect him to do.

jimmy jimmy
I have a few pals and their wives round to watch Italy v England on TV later. We went on Freeview 38 to watch the Grand Prix and they felt Mallilla in Sweden was "rather tatty compared to World Cup venues." And they also thought the meeting did not have the same atmosphere that the World Cup games have. You know how to put a dampener on things don't you
g13webb
I feel it's such a shame that, after probably the best Grand Prix for some time, people are still talking about Pedersen then the actual racing. Some of the heats were from the top drawer. So many overtakes in one meeting to name . a truly memorable meeting when the winner could have been one of half a dozen riders. Cant remember when so many riders were on good points. Usually 8pts with a win would get you to the semi's but this one you needed more. Pleased that Bomber got his first race win of the year, also Kenneth Bjerre is showing signs of back to form, At last Batchelor comes to the party, and Woffy was a deserved winner. Why can't all SGP's be like this. Brilliant.

The All Blacks match was held at the state of the art covered stadium in Dunedin which cost upwards of €200 NZ. Far better stadium and atmosphere than "tatty" Mallilla. On to Lords for the cricket and again Speedway doesn't compare well. We all felt the home of cricket added to a far greater sense of occasion than the rural setting for the speedway. On to the World Cup and matches for this were held at Belo Horizonte, Recife, Manaus and Fortaleza in stadiums that cost approximately £600 million to build and renovate. All 4 stadiums looked aesthetically more pleasing than the open stands in Sweden and again showed Speedway in a relatively poor light. Unfortunately, we were too busy moaning about the shabby appearance and lack of comparable atmosphere to watch the racing. Was it any good? Back in the old days we used to get 90,000 at Wembley, time for BSI to pull their finger out.

Midland Red
No you are incorrect -a race can be awarded providing the winner has crossed the line before the race is stopped-Pedersen excluded,Zagar awarded 3rd place-100% legit According to the SGP website Zagar was not awarded a point and he finished on 9 pts Both he and Nicki are shown as DNF for their semi-final Totally agree. It was a proper speedway track - in a speedway stadium If you want to see it in stadia like you mention, you'll get a temporary trick track like we've seen over the years in SGPs - even Cardiff, yes I'd much rather watch my speedway on a track like the one last night!

It is when what are classified major events, i.e at Grand Prix (and all that title envisages in other motor sport) goes on at a place like Malilla. Modern day speedways lacks the classic feel we used to have from places like Wembley Stadium for example. The concept of a Speedway Grand Prix is great - it's just where the classics take place - in not so-classic stadiums.

george.m
This is 2014. This is speedway today. The past is gone along with big crowds, luxurious stadiums, overtaking in every heat. Get used to it.
davidncohen
Excellent meeting, great racing, incidents, healthy crowd, really enjoyed it. More of this on Freeview, please. It's hard to see anyone stopping Tai in the long run this season.
