Kent V Coventry Mon 2nd June

Recommended Posts

I think I'm beginning to understand the team points building limits once the season has started but can someone confirm if I have it right. I've never looked into it that deeply before.

The maximum team points at the start of the season I believe is 40. However if you wish to or have to replace riders during the season this is based on the GSA at certain times in the year. At the moment based on the latest GSA, Kent have a total of 37.12 points. Therefore is that the limit we can build to? Whereas Cradley are at 54.24. So if they lose a rider/s they can build back to that total?

Expect corrections to the following!

Firstly, the Green Sheet Averages (GSA) are actually the riders' Calculated Match Averages (CMA), printed (traditionally) on green paper.

The 40 points ceiling (the figure is decided upon by the BSPA) remains in place throughout the season. Riders carry over their season's end CMAs to the start of the new season and those are the figures used in team building. Kent originally built this season's team to 39.96, leaving only 0.04 spare. Those CMAs remain in place until the end of May when, for those riders who have completed the required number of matches (it used to be 6 home plus 6 away - that may have changed), fresh CMAs are issued to come into effect from 1st June. Recalculated CMAs are then published on the 1st of each subsequent month for the duration of the season.

Kent's personnel changes and new CMAs, mean that we now sit on 37.12, with 2.88 spare. If we needed/wanted to replace a rider (let's use Mason on 6.38 as an example), we could only look at riders whose current CMA was 9.26 or lower (6.38 + 2.88). My understanding is that the only rides which count towards a rider's CMA are:

  • Elite League meetings, excluding play-offs
  • Premier League and League Cup mini-league meetings, excluding play-offs
  • National League meetings, excluding play-offs
  • Points scored in a Tactical Ride count at 50%
  • Fast Track Development Programme (FTDP) riders are ignored
  • All riders appearing as a Guest or as a #8 are ignored.

Haven't got a clue though how all that affects a team who have gone over the top, like Cradley.

I keep reading about how much Kent are missing Benji, i agree up to a point, but the rider you are missing most of all is Brandon, and except for Scunthorpe, Plymouth and Buxton you will get nothing away while Mason performs so poorly at away tracks, really NO excuse for him with the experience that he has, its between Kent, Stoke, Mildy and KL for two of the three Play Off places, Storm and Cradley will deffo be two, so how you perform against them home and away is vital.

I agree partly what you say.

We do miss Benji as he will get better scores away from Home in the Heat leaders position.

I have always said Mason does not do enough away from Home.

Cradley, storm,Mildenhall and stoke are stronger than Kent at the moment and it is obvious where Kent need to improve.

I have no doubt in my mind a full strength Storm would have won last nights meeting.

Yes you are correct there, you only need to look how many points DG scored, and Olly, Nielsen and Sarj are currently better riders than Dan, so they would have scored 30+ between them dont know how many there replacement rides actually scored.

Oliver Greenwood's (R/R) rides netted 4 points. Stefan Nielsen (Marc Owen/Adam Sheppard) 0 points. Luke Crang (Sam Chapman) 2 points. James Sarjeant (Brendan Johnson) 7.

Benji might have added a couple to Baseby's score, and Brandon would easily have outscored Harris. Let's be generous and add a couple on for Lambert. We'd have been looking at about a 39-51 defeat with both teams at full strength I reckon.

Thanks for your reply RocketBen 1, but it seems more complicated than I thought.

So you are allowed to replace one of your riders to his average. But if you want to replace others you can only do that to the 40 points limit. That would mean that Cradley could only replace one rider as they are at 54.24 way over 40. Is that right, I know it's difficult to word?

Unless the two new riders could be accommodated as straight swaps for existing members of the line up, then the team can still stay over the limit.

For the Kings, Compton has been a huge miss, he may have been fourth in the averages but he was really the third heat leader and Mason a second string. R/R for Compton has returned 3.5 points a meeting whereas the man himself would probably be good for 7 home and away. Freemantle is undoubtedly talented but he's never seemed to be able to string a season together wherever he has been.

Whilst i agree that we definitely need Benji back in the side its very promising to see signs of what Aaron Baseby is truely capable of and could be the signing of the season? (and shame on RTD cynical move)

I was happy to see that both Luke & Danny have been declared in the 1-7 and although Luke had a poor night he can still improve and i really havent seen anything from Brandon that i think Luke couldnt do.

As for DM's away form this may be iffy but he was the fastest man round central park last night and a potential match winner against the big guns plus expertly guided Luke Chessell home in thier outing together.

Sadly ive not really seen LC beat anyone of quality yet and still believe he should be the one to make way when Benji is fit again.

Its all well and good spending 5 minutes spinning out a groove on the start line (annoying to watch) if he then either doesnt make the start or hits the first corner far to quickly and runs wide!

Echo what's been said earlier about Danny Ayres, always trying hard, and improving all the time - can't ask for more. Unlucky in Ht8 trying to keep it on around the outside of Knuckey; but great move in ht14, which got a roar of approval from the fans. He's becoming a firm favorite among the Kent fans.

To Waco; Brandon concusion was from Scunthorpe , the second meeting of the year.

Rocketben, he didn't miss a meeting for Hackney in 2011. Then sat out 2012 with a broken leg caused by a car driver. Then last year got taken out on the island by jj and suffered a broken wrist.

But with any luck he won't return to a sport where the promoter of his parent club didn't know he was sidelined!

Cheers Pitstop, thought he had injury troubles with Hackney but must be wrong. The lad has buckets of potential, if he comes back the Kings have a great prospect. Ayres seems the more rounded reserve at the moment so it would make sense for Freemantle to replace Harris but Harris' name must be put on a contract for 2015 as he's another lad who will go far.

Is this an error ie, wont return or wont return to the Team ?

Also interested if you could elaborate on this sentence.

Notice no mention of the track or lack of it, Blue groove was in fact a runway producing little overtaking and giving no hope to any would be racer from the back, yes the track did not fall apart but then nor should freshly laid concrete. Worrying also the crowd levels seem to be decreasing week by week, better Promotion needed sooner rather than later.

I was really impressed with his efforts on Monday - and the fall and remount was possibly one of the most stylish I have ever seen!

Trouble here is, well several things. Track quite honestly is no better than last season, it's crap, simple as. The team is being led by young Morley with back up from Lambert, shame Compton is injured as with him plus Mason it's not a bad top four. Chessell I don't think will get any better and the two reserves only time will tell. The other thing that had put people of Is the utter rubbish bickering that's gone on between two individuals. Both in my opinion shouldn't talk about it freely on the www. That has stopped several people I know from attending in 2014.

The fans are without doubt not attending in numbers like they did last season. Presentation is crap, as is the PA, so is the racing so quite honestly it needs a new managerial team, a new track curator and maybe fans will start coming back. But for those of us who know Len, there are two hopes for the above, Bob and his mate No Hope

Presentation & PA was excellent last Monday - much improved on my previous visits

Track wasn't so good, but could've been because they didn't want to water it too much, with the possibility of bad weather

The crowds have gone down this season. I know a few regulars from last year that don't go no more. The track is still poor and maybe the novelty has worn off for some fans. Saying that, i enjoyed last mondays meeting and will continue to attend for official fixtures. I hope that the crowds will pick up once the kids break up for the summer holidays.

For what reason/s do last years regulars not go ? If you don`t mind me asking.
