Coventry V Birmingham 26th May 2014

Or perhaps the BSPA are insisting Hansen average is 5.25 therefore the Fisher-Larsen change cant happen? Lots of reason why they havent bought Larsen in, a comment from the management would be nice.

But its hardly going to help fisher's confidence if they say "we wanted to ditch rysn for kenni, but we couldnt because of x...?" Is it? I csn understand the absence of comment if they couldnt make a deal happen

With respect, it speaks volumes that neither me nor the Club conduct our business via an internet forum. Look on us as a swan if you wish - serene on the outside but working hard out of sight......

Think 99% of fans are hoping working hard out of site means a change will be announced soon.

We are going to get eaten alive by Wolves & Poole otherwise.

Seeing that the Bees escaped by the skin of their teeth last night, I would've thought the management will be well aware of the precarious situation Coventry are in.

Either make the team stronger now, or watch any chance of getting in the play-offs disappear in the months ahead.

Looking at the league table, Eastbourne, Belle Vue, Wolves and Swindon will all come to the table fighting to join the top three there at present.

Decision time

Very good post and exactly how most bees fans feel. We have had some good results away but at home we are very poor.

The new format calls for 3 heatleaders which is where kings Lynn, Poole & Lakeside do well.

We only had 1 rider missing last night but still usually made up of too many 5pt riders or Riders that would have been a reserve last year.

I thought we had Two riders missing, three once Fisher got injured.

What was the track like? Any good now they got new trackman in any thoughts?????????????????

Obviously more to the team's liking, judging by the match report comments from Havelock. But that in itself is worrying in that we struggled to beat the basement team...

The first half of the meeting had precious little overtaking (well, none!) and then we saw a few glimpses of a former track, notably Bomber's Heat 13 trademark outside blast. Still fairly slick, but not without a dirt line later on.

The real test will be what Hansen can do on it..

Firstly, I think it is best to forget about last year and the riders averages. This year is a whole new ball-game. You say the new format calls for 3 heatleaders, but it also calls for good 2nd strings and good reserves.

I think this new heat format is like a breath of fresh air. This new format puts far more importance into all the heats. Whether you be a top rider, a decent 2nd string or a draft riders from a lower league, they are all of the same importance when getting points for the team. Gone are the days when a team with the top riders would win all the meetings, now you need to be strong in all 3 sections. Bearing in mind the points limits, if the promoter went for a strong top 3, then the points left for 2nd strings will be minimal, and the chances of decent riders will be jeopardised. It made it into a more balanced team. The heats are so designed that heat leaders only appear in 9 of the heats, leaving 6 races solely for 2nd strings and reserves, (a total of 30 pts on offer, that the top riders cant win.)

I think the majority of matches are more closely fought, and results are not so clear-cut than was usually the case.. Whether this new format was stumbled on or was designed for this purpose, I believe this is the most positive move that has come for years. Long may it continue.......

i think coventry/poole are in the same situation, potential good teams but just not happening at home at least.

one big difference between cov and poole thou...

our heat leaders dont choke in heat 15!

it was a great escape, everyone who saw the match live and management are aware of this and can see two changes are needed

one rider

someone to sort out gates 2 &4 which are so poor if you get a 2-4 against you, you are doing well

Thanks for the response. It is appreciated. I know you are swimming against the tide a little as you are pretty much the only promoter who regularly posts on here. That means you stick your head above the parapet occasionally.

I don't think anyone expects the club to conduct their business on the internet but it comes down to the issue of where to draw the line. My own frustration came from the fact that you contributed a couple of times on the Hasen average issue on the Kings Lynn thread but then went quiet. To me it gave the impression it was being ignored. From your post above, it seems I was wrong.

Track was a lot better with fast times and riders commenting that it was the best it has been.

just need to sort the gates out now as 2 & 4 were a disadvantage

I think there are a lot of fans that wouldn't mind that. they are paying £17 to watch their team struggle at home

Bees deserved nothing tonight.

At least we saw an outside pass - Harris on Covatti... How rare is that this year!

In virtually all the earlier heats, my recollection is one of four riders strung out with at least ten bike lengths between them. Was that a better track? I guess so...

Classic audio collision between Yorkie and Chris Simpson before Heat 9 when the former was resolutely continuing his interview with Doug 'flyer' Wyer, seemingly oblivious to the fact that the riders were lined up at the start, waiting. Chris had no option but to override the Yorker and we were treated to both talking at once. Was I the only one feeling deafened by the volume of the talking in the stand? (The music was about right)

Nice to see Tony Gillias on track...

Glad someone else has said that ! thought it was only at Monmore that the outside pass had been virtually consigned to history

The promotion did it last year consistantly after poor performances. Think Neils comment suggests they are looking to improve and working hard. Thats all we wanted to know.

That was a poor result for the brummies 8 points up at one point and losing by two, two points lost to me.

Fisher should be banned from riding a speedway bike ever again, the mans a complete disaster.

Track looked good, Colin Pratt in charge again I hear.

The usual fizzle out at the end by the Brummies, well done to the team but must do better and on to the next one, we have to stop the bobin robins on monday.

By not wagching the gps you really are missing out on some excellent speedway, and i find it sad that genuine soeedway fans miss out on thr pinnacle of the sport they love out of some sense of "principle"

Well tonight I put my principles aside, took your advice, and have just watched the first 13 heats of the GP from Prague via EuroSport.

Jeeeeezus Christ - what an utter borefest.

If you truly deem heat after heat of 'gate and go' processional racing to be the 'pinnacle' of our sport, then you are clearly more easily entertained than me old chap.

In a word - DROSS!

Tbf, prague is the worst gp every year! Watch either of the first two gps this year on youtube for a better represent ation of how good the gps can be.

Mate, with all due respect, I'm now 50 years old. Having been indoctrinated as a Speedway Nut since the age of 6, or in other words for the past 44 years, I've given a similar 'spiel' to people during my lifetime. "Seriously, it's not about who gets in front, wins". I wish I had a tenner for the amount of times I've uttered those words - because I'd be quite a rich man.

I've subsequently taken a percentage of the aforementioned people to league matches; primarily at my beloved Waterden Road. Some have become Speedway fans for life. Others, it just didn't float their boat. Fair enough.

Suffice to say that the GP that I watched tonight didn't float mine either. It was, as previously stated, an utter borefest of processional racing that did absolutely nothing to enhance the spectacle of the sport that we all hold so dearly close to our heart. In fact, it was possibly the worst televised advert for Speedway that I've EVER witnessed.

I guess that we'll have to just agree to disagree. To my mind, nothing beats the spectacle of a one-off World Final at Wembley, etc.

And as for these GP 'Superstars', well sorry. Give me Barry Thomas ANY day of the week.

I agree with you re the prague gp - any poster on here will tell u it is processional racing every year. It is a terrible advertisement for the gp, except that it is an amazing city and therefore probably a brilliant gp to go - but as a tv spectacle rubbish. My point was dont judge the gp series on its worst event - so far this season there have been two excellent ones and two rubbush ones.

I agree as an event nothing will probably ever beat the wembley one off final.

However, imho, the standard of field and quality of racing is generally better in the gps. But there are rubbish gps as well, just as there were the one off finals (83 and 84 spring instantly to mind).

So you didn't see the Finnish GP then?

I thought that Prague was marginally better than the awful Finnish GP.

Lets face it, i doubt many GP`s will ever be worse than the Finnish one.

Prague is always a borefest.
