Workington V Berwick (pl) 23/05/14 19:30 Hrs

Recommended Posts

Wow!

Great to come back from a night out to see this result.

Everyone chipping in, and proving that a team with strength in depth rather than the big hitter at the top approach can be very effective.

Tonight will be tough though as the Comets go well around Shielfield.

It's a cracking start to the season and the Steen Machine is proving to be a great signing!

Berwick very good, Comets very poor pretty much sums up last night. For me only one Comet had a off-night that was Mason Campton, bar JG the rest who didn't score well haven't had many on-nights to be put in the category of having an off-night.

Josh G - Best rider on show, and probably our best since Stoney

Mason - Like I said he had an off-night, but has been very good so far so isn't a worry

Wells - Decent score, funny thing was he didn't quite look as good as his points tally in my opinion

Howarth - tries too hard, that's what you what but it just isn't working out for him at all, blew 3 points and a 5-1 in heat 3

Bach - Rene not too great again, so inconsistent and will probably never kick on and improve from where he's at now

Mills - Awful, maybe even worse than last season, nil points what more can you say

Morris - Looked pretty quick early on, is capable enough and is in the Howarth bracket of trying too hard

So wondering now if the promotion are looking at changes? If so, we've probably got 5 riders underperforming at the moment, that's everyone bar the Aussies. Howarth and Morris are both still under 21, capable and more than committed, Bach is now our asset and captain and really can't see him getting the boot.

That leaves Wells and Mills the ones to be sacrificed, it may be a little harsh on Wells, but as other people have mentioned is he all that committed anyways? Don't even need to comment on why Mills should go.

That would leave us nearly 11 points to get 2 riders in, this way we could strengthen with a 5 point reserve perhaps, the trouble is finding these riders, but if the right ones did come along in the next few weeks, I don't think we should hesitate in making them, as at the moment can anyone see this side winning the league?

marksman.. although it pains me to agree with you. i do echo your comments about wells and mills . its not going to happen for chris/ there is no wonder cure for his performances and ricky seems to put more effort into elite league racing. all the double up riders seem to save themselves for the big pay days.. ricky had the same trouble at sheffield, poor home form and ok away.maybe rosen/ henry and another reserve.

well done berwick. deserved winners..

My evaluation of our team last night was:

Josh G - Best rider on show, the only rider who wants to win seemingly.
Mason - Mechanical gremlins I would say cost him his points last night.
Wells - Decent score agreed but seemed like he was not fighting.
Howarth - Too wild and cost us deerly last night.
Bach - Still not 100% since his crash maybe, agree with others about his inconsistancy.
Mills - Its only a matter of time but who do you change him with??
Morris - Scored decently but needs to ride the right lines - especially at home.

Here Bloody Here..... I would take Henry/Rosen over Wells anyday of the week, no wonder Sheffield lot got pee'd off him , he's only going through the motions at Worky, if he gets out thats not if not bye bye points, won't take any risks . Keeping himself for Wolves , tbh pal you're not that good at that either  . Get shot of him and bring in a young NL at reserve can't do any worse than Mills

At the start of this season many clubs would have given their right arm for the side Comets had on paper and there is the rub, experience has now taught us that the lily was well and truly gilded, and not just by the Comets, many other's had us down as Championship material?

Though this PL campaign has barely started the crack's are blatantly obvious with the inconsistent performances of too many rider's to make us anywhere near a winning side to be feared?

Like other's have said, Josh is a regular performer, the odd slip here and there but generally the "go to" man, Mason, can do better and maybe a spell in another position could help, Ricky, too much focussed on the EL, miss the start and he's playing second fiddle, Kyle, just wont relax and let the bike do the work, costing him big style, Rene, will never be the rider he was, crash weigh's too heavily in the background to see any improvement from the 8/10pts man we're seeing. Chris, just hasn't got it anymore, really hoped he would have cracked on this year but is seemingly just making up the number's and Ash is only getting there but too slowly for me and can easily do better if, like Kyle, he stopped fighting and smoothed out his style?

We're not dead and buried just yet but a lot of meeting's have gone by to keep blaming gremlins, we have to get ourselves together and start bringing the results in before the season slips too far away for us to get into it, maybe changes will have to happen but whom/where and when is another matter? ;)

Tell you what mate, I put Workington & Newcastle in my top 4 in the league. Sh*t* happens,, and I am sure both teams will get through their problems. Workington has new owners and are on a learning curve, stick with them, as long as they are willing to listen and learn. Newcastle are having problems with all the experience they have.

They seem to be a hard lot to please over at Workington, a 4pt away win tonight will see them join Berwick in 4th place in the PL table. This will only be Workington's 4th PL, still lots of meetings and lots of points to race for.

I wish we were as 'bad' as Worky.

Quite so and I hope they will, too many broken promises over the years lends itself to the scepticism!! ;)

Didn't get the gist of the post Screm, season started in March not 3 matches ago? (Think long term) :D

We are getting to be a hard lot to please because we keep getting fed a diet of top quality teams on paper who then don't do it on the track for one reason or another, our away form is patchy at best so your quote of a 4pt away win is a little hypothetical to say the least, we "should" be able to adapt to Berwick as tracks are similar it just doesn't always work out that way?

Gonna need a lot of your riders to fall off the wagon tonight, overcome by the emotion of winning at our place in order to turn you over, cant see it happening but as in the alternative thread, I am hopeful of 1pt at least, which, will be a nice start!! ;)

So far Workington have qualified for the Semi-Finals of the LC, and as I posted earlier a win tonight will see them in joint 4th place in the PL, to me that's a decent start to the season but I`m seeing words like shambles describing the teams performance, which IMO it isn't and as Tsunami has pointed out there are teams having a harder time than Workington.

some workington fans are only happy when we win easy

for me aslong as we put up a good fight and we get the entertainment we paid for then ill take defeat on the chin but last night and the home defeat by edinbrugh the team just wernt good enough

ashley rode better than in the past and most the others had good rides but we had too many last places some from riders that looked like they didnt want to be there

Always a pleasure to chat with true fans, your boys deserved the point, wanted it more than our lot. just hoping we can salvage some pride tonight and keep it close.

Have to agree Berwick riders were up for it and done most of the passing when they missed the gate.Thought it was a decent meeting but with Berwick winning that was always going to be how it looked for me.I really enjoy the racing at Derwent Park plenty of lines if the riders are up for it.

Gutted !! But I will be where I want to be again . No hard feelings thanks to every one who has supported me . Best of luck to the comets

Do you get the feeling Mills might've ridden his last meeting for Workington.

Its clear Workington must drop at least one more rider to make any kind of change. Their team average is 42-90, Mills average is 3-05, so another riders Workington race jacket is hanging on a shoogly peg.
