Lakeside V Poole Saturday 24th May 8pm

Recommended Posts

FURIOUS manager Neil Middleditch insisted punters were “being robbed” after Poole Pirates had their attempt to draft in Scott Nicholls as a guest blocked by speedway chiefs.

The Wimborne Road outfit have been forced into three changes for tomorrow's trip to Lakeside Hammers (7.30pm) with Shamek Pawlicki racing for Leszno in Poland, Vaclav Milik on under-21 duty and new boy Ben Hopwood featuring for Stoke Potters.

Rookie and Lakeside asset Jack Kingston fills Hopwood's reserve berth, while Steve Boxall, a rider with Premier League club Rye House, stands in forrMilik.

But Middleditch's bug bear is over Poole's inability to bring in Belle Vue's seven-time British champion Nicholls, with Finnish rider Kalle Katajsto, who represents Plymouth in the second tier, taking his place at the last minute.

The Pirates team boss, who had yet to find out the reasons behind the refusal, told the Daily Echo: “We were very disappointed not to get the guest facility and we have been punished through no fault of our own.

“Lakeside will be putting on a sub-standard meeting and it is disgraceful that the public are being robbed by paying to watch what is meant to be an Elite League meeting.

“People want to see the top riders on show but we have had to fill it with Premier League lads because our hands were tied.”

Injured star Darcy Ward is set to race, with Middleditch expecting Poole to be back at full strength for Monday's trip to Leicester (3pm).

unlucky get on with it instead of looking for loopholes, fixtures have been known for ages and you would think Poole would know the rules! Oh hang on they wouldn't know rules as usually they don't stick to them. Shame to see Middlo crying for help when this is Pooles fault lol

Maybe if Middlo feels this is now a meeting they can't get anything from he could "rest" Wards injury and go with R/R

If Ward cant be bothered, or cant make it through injury, and if Middleditch is so keen to use Nicholls, he can come in as a guest for Ward.

Middlo needs to have a look at post 28 :approve:

Wouldn't it be perfectly legal for Poole to use a guest, all they have to do is claim either Pawlicki or Lebedev are withholding their services, the rider gets a ban and Poole gets a guest.

Roughly translated from Shovlarese into English it reads as follows:-

"Poodles Pirates red-faced tight lipped team manager 69 year old Ron Muddlo was furious when he was caught cheating by trying to field an illegal team to avoid a tonking at Lakeside. When the Echo's top sports journo, Phil Space suggested that cheating brought the club into disrepute Mr Muddlo remained red-faced and tight lipped but snarled it's what team managers do , at least al those at Poole do and threatened to send some abusive twitter messages."

Aww diddums!!

If Lakeside had rode on their normal night....THEY would of had to use 3 PL guests (yes I know Poole would still have had to use 2 PL guests). Funny how it's not ok for their team to be missing 3 riders, but it's ok if it's the opposition!!!!!!!

Not first team to do it and unfortunately won't be the last.

Coventry went to Eastbourne last Sat with a NL rider instead of Hans, R/R for Harris and no Garrity.

Swindon have a 6pt PL rider instead of Kildemand against Eastbourne tomorrow

What an hilarious remark by Middlo. He didn't consider last year's BV V Poole tv match to be sub- standard, did he? “Lakeside will be putting on a sub-standard meeting and it is disgraceful that the public are being robbed by paying to watch what is meant to be an Elite League meeting..Laughable.

I guess this just about wins the award for this week's "Elite League Shambles" - the competition is getting hotter every week!!

Remarkable that Poole weren't aware of the pecking order which denies them facilities for Pawlicki and Milik, it's not as if the attachment in post 28 is difficult to interpret.

So Middlo "doesn't yet know the reasons for the refusal" - it's called "rules".

In the article Middlo doesn't say he doesn't know the reasons they can't have a guest. It's the interpretation of the journalist that makes it look that way.

Actual extract from article "The Pirates team boss, who had yet to find out the reasons behind the refusal" .

Says to me that Middlo hadn't been told why and therefore doesn't know.

The fact they had planned to use Nicholls, and still don't know why they were turned down, suggests a lack of understanding?
