Daniel Smith
The most annoying thing so far is I can barely hear the bikes when racing. If speedway ever goes electric it will be a disaster, hate silent speedway. I need the noise
manchesterpaul
He may have done research but he's missed the most fundamental fact. It's FOUR laps We need to get him a mini Abacus with only four beads on it so he can check each lap off. The most annoying thing so far is I can barely hear the bikes when racing. If speedway ever goes electric it will be a disaster, hate silent speedway. I need the noise Uh Oh be careful what you wish for....cue Pearson and Tatum muscling in to commentary box thinking they been called up by Screamer lol. Daniel Smith
But they do put "bums on seats". The last 2 Elite League meetings I have watched- Eastbourne on Saturday and Lakeside last night had pitiful attendances. It's an absolute myth that if all these guys turned up the crowds would increase. Certainly not substantially enough to cover the riders costs and be sustainable

manchesterpaul
But all these superstars don't improve the standard of racing but only promotions expenditure But they do put "bums on seats". The last 2 Elite League meetings I have watched- Eastbourne on Saturday and Lakeside last night had pitiful attendances. Standard of racing is down to using the race format to match up riders of equal ability in a race, something that the Elite League may have done this year in the UK? In recent years we've had two races in one with two top-ish riders and two stragglers in a large percentage of races. In Poland and Sweden you get to see more competitive races with a top rider in as there are more top riders to go round and you don't get one sole rider above three lesser ones as often. Also can't disagree with Alan's point that they can and do attract extra fans - of course enough to pay the increased wage bill is in the UK doubtful. Mind you going to a meeting to see a top rider was considerably more of a factor when i was a little kid and you you'd only get to see Riders like Ivan Mauger and Peter Collins once a year (unless you drew them in the cup competition). Ghostwalker
I know from personal experience that when the top guys is replaced by riders of lesser quality those bums seats will be fewer.

brandonbee48
It's an absolute myth that if all these guys turned up the crowds would increase. Certainly not substantially enough to cover the riders costs and be sustainable Who knows ? Poland and Sweden have adopted a different business model to the UK. Many top riders no longer need or want to ride in the UK especially with the travelling involved and the lack of a fixed night because of the stadiums mostly not being owned by the speedway teams. I just know which I would sooner watch. Fair play to those who think differently.
Speedy swindon pete
Good racing, dire sound. What boggles me beyond belief is that there must be someone at Eurosport or the production company, with some headphones watching and listening to what's going on, seemingly thinking it sounds fine. Do these people not have sodding ears?! Unless Eurosport is actually so tin-pot that quality control is left to the commentators. Even then they must surely have headphones on and be able to notice that Jack's voice is distorting rediculously.

As far as i am aware it's the first time we've had that problem and of course the fault can certainly lie with other than Eurosport. I'm just wallowing in getting to see the Elitserien in HD.
