Main Man
COVENTRY Storm face another tough examination of their National League title credentials with a powerful Mildenhall team visiting Brandon on Friday (7.30pm).The City Gearboxes Storm pulled off a stunning victory at West Row on Easter Sunday and are top of the table having won all four of their matches so far – but the Fen Tigers are undoubtedly contenders too.The visitors are led by Coventry asset and last year’s Storm No.1 Joe Jacobs, and also include British Under-21 Champion Josh Bates – whilst at reserve is another ex-Storm rider Brendan Johnson, who has been scoring well this season but has not completed enough matches for a reflective average. The Storm will use rider-replacement for Luke Crang, who has a Premier League commitment for Redcar at Somerset, although his excellent form so far this season has seen his average rise to 7.37, meaning all team members with the exception of skipper James Sarjeant can take one of his outings.Co-boss Laurence Rogers said: “We’re going for the double but they’re going for revenge, and I think this is probably a tougher match for us than the Cradley one.“We need to negate their reserve strength and it will be interesting too with JJ (Jacobs) coming back – he had an amazing home record last year.“We hit them at the right moment on the day we went there, we were all on-song and we need to be on Friday too. Hopefully the Coventry fans will get behind us and come in their numbers to make lots of noise and support the boys so we can retain our position at the top.”A Coventry win on Friday would be a massive step towards a place in the play-offs, as it could take them as many as six points clear at the top of the table. But by way of further warning, Coventry have never beaten Mildenhall at Brandon – the Fen Tigers having been victorious on both of their visits last year as well as in the Conference Trophy back in 2004.With Mildenhall also being one of the best-supported clubs in the National League there should be a good atmosphere for what promises to be a terrific battle between two excellent sides at this level. Admission is just £10 for all adults, with all children free. CITY GEARBOXES STORM (from): Luke Crang r/r, Dan Greenwood, Oliver Greenwood, Martin Knuckey, Stefan Nielsen, James Sarjeant, Ryan Terry-Daley.MILDENHALL (from): Josh Bates, Connor Coles, Dan Halsey, Joe Jacobs, Brendan Johnson, Jack Kingston, Connor Mountain. Hang you heads in shame Horton and Watson - reckon it will come back to haunt you for sure ! Regards the grim reaper !! Well, it won't work. In fact it has the opposite effect as it makes me even more determined not to buy a programme and I'm sure others think the same. I'd rather go without one, but as it happens I can usually find out what the teams are anyway and so apparently can all the other fans I saw with their own printed programmes. Bad idea promoters! You should not antagonise your fans over something so petty and make them disgruntled so you could lose them altogether. Anyway, on to the match which The Storm managed to throw away. Why on earth did Stefan Nielsen swop his bike just before the re-run of heat 11 back to the one that hadn't even moved out of the start in heat 10? The resulting failure again with the scores at 30 - 30 gave Mildenhall the lead which they held on to. Disappointing night for The Storm as I think they should have won this match but well done to Mildenhall.
stan jr
Good effort by the storm thought they deserved something against a strong Mildenhall side, think crang would of made the difference.

Stefan had to go out on the 1st bike, we changed the ignition system which we thought was the problem. New rule this year and that is you have to use the same tyre on both bikes. We didn't have chance to change it. If he finished the race on the other bike he would have been excluded

I have no idea why you have such an unpleasant manner towards me, Mick and the Bees/Panthers generally - I am always happy to respond to questions put in the right way. I haven't time to trawl all websites but we're certainly not the only Club who list teams the way we do. http://www.eastbourn....php?extend.530

Gemini
I haven't time to trawl all websites but we're certainly not the only Club who list teams the way we do. It's a new thing for Coventry though and rather disappointing considering how the Elite League is even more depleted this season but we're still paying the same price. I think probably all fans are in agreement that speedway is too expensive, especially for a family, so if a bit of money can be saved by printing off a programme instead of buying one then promoters shouldn't go out of their way to make it difficult. Regarding tyres - I haven't a scooby which post is correct but Stefan was leading heat 11 on his second bike before the race was stopped and then changed over to bike number 1 that had let him down in heat 10. It then did the same again which pretty much ended The Storm's hopes of a victory.
freshy26
That was what I was told by the machine examiner and by the team manger. I'm his mechanic so I knew what was happening in the pits. Please don't knock the people that are helping the boys. I collapsed during the meeting and had to get medical treatment. Gemini
I don't think anyone is knocking any mechanics and I'm certainly not. Just wondering why Stefan went back to using his first bike after coming out on bike number two but now you've given the reason I know why. Hope you are okay now. I heard the announcement asking for a paramedic to go to the pits and it made me think about what would happen if I collapsed at Brandon with the dog in tow and no-one knew who I was or where I lived. From now on at the top of my printed programme (sorry Neil!) I'm going to put my car registration and Leicester telephone number so Lucy doesn't end up in R.S.P.C.A kennels in Coventry. Gemini
Thanks Neil. I haven't got a mobile phone as the one I was given second hand by my son-in-law about 10 years ago was suddenly cut off last week. How very dare they? All I had to do was make sure £10 was put on once a year and it's been working fine all this time. I'd still got about £8 on it too so it looks like I've lost that. Cheeky blighters!
