Lakeside V Kings Lynn 19 May El A Sky Match

Recommended Posts

Regarding the quick appearance of the tractor.

Please let me try and put that one to bed.

There would have been no intent whatsoever to cause confusion or gain an unfair advantage.

You have to bear in mind that Sky Meetings are run to extremely precise, strict timings. Advertisers are paying for specific, timed and contracted slots for their sponsored ads to appear. Failure by Sky in this regard could potentially make them liable to refunding advertisers.

Generally, any respective club has complete autonomy on how a meeting is run. Dependent upon weather conditions, we all know that track-grading is undertaken throughout a meeting - in liaison between (primarily) the Clerk of the Course and the Track Curator; and with advance communication (of at least one heat) with the Referee and both Team Managers.

At a Sky meeting, it's a totally different scenario. Basically, their producer runs the entire meetings' timings. You are told when advert breaks are coming up; and HAVE to grade accordingly.

The tractor with the water trailer at Lakeside is kept to the rear of the pits in accordance with safety standards - and whereby it often has to refill the water tanker via the rear car park. To this end, our tractor drivers (Ken and Gerald) are on a very tight timescale during Sky meetings to fill up in advance, then drive safely through the pits (which is particularly manic during televised meetings due to extra personnel and expensive equipment), and onto the track ASAP to do their few grading laps. What I'm basically trying to say is that time is truly of the essence.

Having performed my first Clerk of the Course duty two years ago, at our Sky Meeting against Poole, you literally have so many more balls to juggle than usual. On a two-way radio to the Ref about team changes, another to the Track Curator (telling him to go out and grade/hurry up/come off - and try holding a conversation above the noise of a 60 year-old tractor engine!) whilst Sky are shouting down your earhole about something else completely!

Sky obviously pay the dosh so have the right to call the shots. And each meeting is assessed by them to ensure everything has gone to their timescales. Hence the reason that EVERYONE involved with any club, associated in any track-staff perspective, are so very often the unsung (and unpaid I hasten to add!) heroes of our sport.

Good post,i agree with alot of it,but the only thing i would question and maybe you can answer is that sky were going to go for an ad break after the lambert not completing the race saga,BUT they stayed with it to get all the drama of what was happening,so really there would have been plenty of time for track grading had the tractor waited.Surely a better idea if you say sky are in charge is give ronnie russell something to do and have the ability to change things at the last minute,as it clearly wen wrong after this heat with all the health and safety we have in place nowadays, and also Lambert was still on full power having stopped because of a broken seat bracket,

just found this video, made me laugh

Like Baggy and Tel I hang my head in shame. I couldn't see anything beyond a right tonking for us last night. This Lynn team is a little bit special. All credit to Rob and Buster. Just shows us fans know sod all. Maybe Rob should get his CV to Delia

Watching racing at Lakeside is bad enough without having to listen to Nigel Pearson licking the KL teams a**. Jim Lawrence had a mixed night I feel Jim got the Lambert decision spot on and the Heat 14 decision horribly wrong.

well most on here think the racing was ok. Bit if drama and a good fight back. And slain ref got heat 14 spot on and as I said I'm an Ipswich fan and did not like to see one if my one riders basically cheat in staying down . Ref got both decisions spot on

Ref got both decisions spot on! We all on the back straight were shouting to Adam to clear the track. Poor form, but he is a young lad who will learn from it! (Dammed if you do dammed if you don't)

I thought it was a good meeting to watch, I was up at 4-30 am Aussie time. For the hammers, Lawson, Morley & Ellis I think are going great, bridger& bech have no idea about teams riding, PK needs some good motors in England & watty did what watty does, scored points. The stars just plugged away. NKI is just a sensational rider & Lewis Kerr has the goods me thinks.

Cheers Duane.

Disspointing night on several fronts tonight. The utter lack of atmosphere caused by the low turnout was noticeable. I appreciate that's down to the match being on TV. What's not excusable is the continued throwing away of league points. I don't know what the answers are, but something has to change if we're serious about a title challenge.

As for the tactical ride points, well what can I say? Maybe they should make the tactical rider wear a jester's hat on top of his helmet, as befits the JOKE rule. In the end, despite all our shortcomings, if this rule did not exist we WOULD have won. At the end of the season Kings Lynn will have 2 additional points in the table, and we'll have 2 less, as a direct result of this ridiculous rule. That may prove crucial.

This isn't sour grapes, I genuinely despise this rule.

Congrats to the Stars for a good battling performance, and a tip of the hat to Niels Kristian Iversen for one of the most dominant performances ever seen at the Raceway.

watching as a neutral last night i thought the match was ruined by the tac ride

just my opinion

I don't know if I should be classed like Baggy and the others, as I thought , with a full team we were able to get something from this meeting, But even I wasn't prepared for what happened last night. A truly wonderful team performance, that exceeded everyone expectations. Wow what a result. Just imagine what we've done with a full side.

Massive well done the Stars. Praise to Rob Lyon for the replacements, having the weaker riders going first, whilst still in contention, leaving Niels and Rory to go when the pressure was on. Well done all round. Have a good feeling this year.... Finger crossed..

Also, Liked the fact Sky showed the conversations with the Ref , And also feel the Ref got both decisions spot one. Firstly, Lambert didn't deserve a point after stopping with a loose seat, and secondly, Ellis knew exactly what he was doing when laying there waiting for the race to stop. Listening to the Manager / Ref conversation, and then to Tatum, this scenario is always on the agenda. Well Done Ref......

Many people are complaining about the tactical ride. At the end of the day if there to use, it's there to use. You only get double points for a beating an opposing rider anyway which obviously happened. I think that only pulled us 6 behind though so why couldn't Lakeside maintain that lead? Wasn't as if the TR put Lynn in the lead. Easy excuse if I'm honest!!

Thought meeting was very good and we deserved the win even tho we had to use double points! Not once did kelven and Nigel say we deserved something but Swindon last week did and I thought we rode better then them tbh

That's because Kelvin and Nigel are pillocks!! ;)

what i find funny is that Middlo has took to twitter saying Lambert shouldnt have been excluded only to find himself ridiculed and shot down in flames by everyone including the Lynn fans who acepted and understand the ruling.

Middlo needs to learn to stay off twitter.

Good meeting and well done the referee

Just shows what a difference a proper No 1 can make.

Stars have one and I am afraid Lakeside have not.

If Lakeside are serious about the League this season they need to find one.

Great show from Stars without Bjerre and a very good reserve.

In Fairness how many number ones who are at the same level as NKI want to ride in the UK ? There lies the problem why so many teams now go without a top notch big hitter. Cov, Eastie, Leicester, Lakeside, Birmingham. Thats over half the teams in the League.

Adam did try to cheat IMO but Kelvin was right in his light hearted defence. He said "it's a professional sport" and any team manager in a professional sport will tell any player - apart from Paolo Di Canio - to do what you have to and hope you don't get called for it. adam did get called so it didn't work.

Win some lose some ;)

Dont agree with cheating in any form and well said Vatcher. Im an Ippo fan and an Ellis fan and what he did was wrong and dont like to see it. Saw Ward do it last season and Kildemand and in my eyes absolutly correct decision.

If this decision to award was done so more often it might stamp it out.

Tatum said Bridger could catch Kerr? Maybe but because one of his own team mates cheated he wasnt given the chance.

On the subject of "outside influence"

The ref was correct but he said he didn't know who waved Lambert on. This begs the question what iF (and yes bwitcher it is a big if) it had been a Lakeside or even neutral person waving their arms about? Would it have been fair? The rule IMHO is poorly worded. Also if "outside influence" is against the rules are there any sanctions against the person providing said "outside influence".

We've all seen team managers/team maters/mechanics waving riders round in similar circumstances, what exactly is the difference between those instances and last night?

Edited to correct predictive text gggggrrrrrrr. Bwitcher became butcher and I make no comment lol

Great called by the ref common sense at last .. not sure why teams on the end of the 5-1 on the first couple laps don't do what Eliis did all the time .
