noggin
Eastbourne may have got 3 EL points but when they pay the riders there wages I do NOT think they will find it funny then. Wonder if the crowd covered the fuel costs for the tractor rearranging the dust lol

Halifaxtiger
A meeting that was one of the worst adverts for British speedway (and Eastbourne's pockets & averages I'm guessing) really feel for Bees fans tonight as Garrity, Hans and Harris would have scored more than the guests tonight and feel the bees would have pushed Eastbourne close. really sad to watch I thought that meeting was better than the one against Wolverhampton two weeks ago. At least there was some racing and passing tonight.
New Science
Crowd looking terrible just like the track. Updates saying its very poor tonight to race on which shows in all the crashes. Can't be any excuse with the track prep,an evening meeting on the warmest day of the year.If you can't prepare a track tonight time to wrap up !
tractorboy
I would estimate that there are about 300 or so spectators. Think your estimation is a bit out, would have said it was probably around the 800 mark or so
Steve0
Another nail in the coffin for British Speedway! Well done to Eastbourne - surprised they didn't hit 70! To the Bees - what goes around, comes around!
stevec
What is it with Speedway that fans feel the need to slag off tracks, riders and everything else. Theres a few comments on here that have annoyed me (Eastbourne fan btw) Firstly, why the hell shouldn't Hansen take a lap of honour after he rode pretty much on the pace all evening? I was quite happy to high five him when he came round the stock car track after heat 15 as well after he won it. Good on him. Blaming the track for the offs is plain stupid. It was not rutting, cutting up or patchy. Bit slick yes but not the cause of the accidents. I get so bored listening to all the gripes of doctoring the track. Bob grades a lot, Get used to it. I know some away supporters are not used to seeing the tractor so much and I admit even I raise an eyebrow when Bob comes out after a couple of laps have been run but its the same track for everyone. And yes, he tries to prepare the track for the home team, as all tracks can do!! Then there is the gate doctoring. These allegations have gone on for years. So if I was a team manager, I would go up to the ref before a match and say to him. "Can you please keep an eye on the graders and make sure there don't cheat with the gate grading" Eventually, something would have to be done if all away teams protested. Most away managers and riders compliment how the Arlington track is prepared with the 'odd' remark every now and then. Why should Eastbourne graciously cancel tonight's meeting? More than most teams they 'need' to win a championship. Gates are down and they seem to go up when we are having a good year. We could cancel this meeting and then when the meeting is rescheduled may be have a bit of bad luck, an injury, bad ref decision, ef and....lose the match. As a fan I would be a bit miffed if that happened' especially if we missed the play offs by a point or two. No, all that is wrong in my mind is the rules that gave us the team we had to ride against tonight. Just plain crazy
goldeneagle
there are no real winner in this dreadful excuse of a meeting tonight, the biggest loser tonight is speedway Couldn't agree more 9.40pm and heat 10 hadn't been completed. It was boring and no disrespect to Coventry riders they tried,Numerous track grades,Riders allowed to return to the pits even for the most simpliest exclusion. As an Eastbourne supporter it wasn't great viewing unlike stevec (good supporter that he is) who sees every thing through management eyes this type of meeting does little to promote speedway, hence the smallest crowd of the season.Credit to the bees fans that turned up without them the attendance would have been a lot less.

No, all that is wrong in my mind is the rules that gave us the team we had to ride against tonight. Just plain crazy I am not an Eastbourne fan but would agree with much of what you have said. I thought the track was slick but it didn't cause any of the falls and was much improved on two weeks ago - compared to some I have seen, it wasn't a bad meeting and it was way better than the Wolverhampton one. I didn't think Uncle Bob graded the track much (if any) more than any other track curator I have seen this season. I also totally agree about the rules - not allowing a facility for Anderson is just plain daft. The only thing is if Eastbourne had cancelled the match and held it when Coventry had a full team they would have saved themselves a load of flak, got a bigger gate, paid out less to their riders and probably still won by 8 points or more. If any damage was done by holding it last night, it was to Eastbourne's bank account. On a final note, if Pirate Nick reads this Steven101 needs some help sacrificing goats, mate. CB252
Another nail in the coffin for British Speedway! Well done to Eastbourne - surprised they didn't hit 70! To the Bees - what goes around, comes around! And comes right back around to Swindon as early as next Saturday. We can lend you Sarj to ride in number 1 if you like? The real farce of this meeting was the way it was run. 2hrs 45 minutes for 15 heats. Everyone involved should be shot.
gee jay
I am sure Poole got find last year for fielding an under strength side. I side that I think did pretty will if a remember right. Are Coventry getting a fine for this. I* hope not but surely this is more under strength than Poole's team was. were you ever on an episode of hello hello ? i shall say this only once
GREDON
It is Eastbournes decision to ride on Saturday nights against the grand prix, so if they lose money they have no one else to blame. Mind you wish all the old Saturday night tracks would revert back. Ah the good old days, on the cinders
mdmc82
I think thats why Eastbourne are so poor during sky meetings or play offs, because they struggle as sky wont let them grade every heat and take 4 hours to complete.
Sienna Ryan
it was bad when you could tell which gates the home riders were coming out of by the grading. I support speedway rather than a team but Eastbourne is one of the tracks I no longer go to due to this and the length of the meetings

Mind you wish all the old Saturday night tracks would revert back. Ah the good old days, on the cinders As its been said and proved Eastbourne need to ride on saturday nights due to the wide fan base - yes we do have one. It was tried a few years ago on a thursday night for a season and crowd figures dropped even lower. The management knew that due to a few extra meetings this year that they would be up against a GP on one or two meetings not everyone watches the gps there are a few that rather be at a track watching a live meeting Edited May 18, 2014 by Sophies Mate

theblueboy
Very worrying times for our beloved sport and like many feel the medlers really have got this draft rider system wrong. Right idea but draft picks were shocking when they have chosen riders not even up to Premier league level let alone Elite league. Never have I been so disillusioned with our Elite league as I have this season and the powers that be seem to fail to know what to do to shake it up. I have been saying for years now that Elite league should run on just one night possibly a Monday and all this guest riding needs to be stopped. Football would look great with Rooney guesting for Chelsea one week playing for Man U another then guesting for Spurs the next week. Its a farce and damaging the fan base and its only Sky revenue keeping some clubs going. I want to see the worlds best and up and coming riders and yes it would be great to see the Brits bought along but dear oh dear who on earth chose to have such an uneven batch of draft riders, clearly some are up to it but at the same time some not even premier league level. Little thought has gone into the selection process when riders like Birks, and Auty can't get a ride in the Elite league. The Elite league needs a massive overhaul otherwise its clubs will die and it will be just the lucky ones who will survive. Agree with many that to charge £17 for such a watered down product was suicide when you have to buy a programme and at Swindon pay a ridiculous £2 to park. We have lost a few top riders this season as it is and then introduced this Draft system that is clearly too much too soon and would have been better tested in the Premier league with Elite teams having to track say two Brits in their 1-7's. Just hope the powers that be read these forums. I pay nothing. The money is charged by the stadium owners not the Swindon promotion. Plenty of free parking available but if people can't be bothered to walk 200 yards then they they get what they deserve to be honest.
