Plymouth Devils Vs Newcastle Diamonds (date?)

Recommended Posts

A very good Point picked up tonight I believe. Looks like a very good performance to me. :t::approve:

You have to remember that this Plymouth team turned over the Somerset Rebels in the LC earlier in the season, so a point is well deserved. It sounds like they had good crowd too. Be interesting to see the turn out come Sunday. King vs. Lawson not quite as appealing as vs. Barker, but should still be good esp. given Lawson's more recent knowledge of Brough.

Happy with a point against improved Plymouth shows the team can be competitive away especially with a number 1 who can score double figures. Hope King can be kept next season but that will will depend on rules and averages. Still think bottom end is to weak but happy to see young Brits getting a chance which has worked for the Diamonds in recent seasons.

they also got battered off Somerset, Edinburgh and ippo... And also beaten by Peterborough ... Seems like no 2 weeks are the same with them.

Newcastle fans happy with a point after other teams have won easy there? Trying to convince themselves their new lineup is good or infact the team they had was better!

If only we could have had Robert Lambert as well, God dammit. :(

When a rider {Rose in this case} goes from an NL birth prior season to a debut PL this season and is main body by May averages, he is either destined for the top or the team management have made a booboo. Time will tell?

They have been inconsistent - you only have to look at Rasmus Jensen's scores to see that - but I think they are improving.

Simota will benefit from riding at no 2 and having the pressure of a heat leader role taken off him, Roynon hopefully will get some confidence back (good from the starts last night but hesitant after that) and Benko will be way better than Webster, who wasn't just poor but looked out of control.

Whatever the case, I think there will be some top quality entertainment at SBA this season. If you haven't been, my advice is to give it a try because it is one of the best racing tracks in the country :approve:

A bit like us then!:P

Good away point for the Diamonds. Onwards and upwards from here.

Diamonds were solid throughout, as only 4 heat winners proves.9 zeros for the home side tells its own story, with only Katajisto scoring in each race.

The problem at Plymouth is the track itself. Never the same each week. This time it was so lumpy and bumpy it made Poole look like a billiard table! Riders bucking and rearing in places you wouldn't normally expect. All riders looking uncomfortable at times.

That said, strangely, the track record was broken twice. Katajisto in Ht3 with 49.75 and then Lindgren in Ht9 with 49.69. Neither looked as quick as Barker in Ht1 though.

Really enjoyed watching Kerr, thoroughly deserved all of his points. Terrific battle between Barker and Robbo on Ht15. No more than a bikes length between them for the 3 completed laps, before Jensens fall causing the stoppage.

Strange refereeing decision in Ht2, Bates had a problem and used up much of the 2 minutes. He was at the gate, without a dirt deflector. It had clearly been noticed by the referee, as it was just being announced, when the ref lets the tapes up! The race finished and Bates was excluded. Surely the ref should not allowed the race to go ahead?

Overall though, Plymouth should be kicking themselves for not getting all 3 points.

Edited for clarification: I have King 10+1 and Robson 9+1, same as the Plymouth and BSPA websites, However, both Newcastle and Updates have King 11 and Robson 8+2. I believe the problem is Ht15, where updates have the Diamonds riders the wrong way round.

There was certainly a serious hole on the first bend and ones on the second and third bends too, I think. The only thing is I didn't think it affected the quality of the racing too much - that's definitely one of the best meetings I have seen this season.

One think I didn't mention was the quality of the presentation. Graham Hambly has always been one of the more professional announcers (apart that slip in heat 4 when he outraged everyone) but I thought the chap on the centre green was also pretty good although his choice of music - 'What shall we do with a drunken sailor ?' - might not be to everyone's taste. :D

I have little time for mascots but at least Neville the Devil gets involved. The sight of him riding round on a Chopper with a big flag on the back during the parade lap brought a smile even to my taciturn features.

What with the excellent presentation, the kids all getting involved, the big effort by the promotion to attract fans and some very good entertainment Plymouth deserve to succeed. :approve: Fingers crossed they do.

Good as always to see you on Friday HT. There will soon be home supporters that have visited the SBA less often than you. :t:

The track has become increasingly bumpy in the past few weeks as a result of settling in the wake of the extensive track work undertaken on the track in order to accomodate the air fence. It was bladed during the week but was stated at the time that there had been issues and these showed themselves by way of holes appearing in the track as the meeting progressed.

While it takes two sides to make a meeting - and the Diamonds certainly contributed their share - the Devils will be kicking themselves for not taking all three points. Robson (as always at the SBA) was excellent value. That said the Diamonds, I thought, deserved something from the meeting though as we all know you don't always get what you deserve
