Swedish Elitserien 2014 Round 2

Recommended Posts

Time for the second round of this years Elitserien.

Västervik – Piraterna, meeting postoned, new date 28/5.

Västervik

  1. Peter Ljung

  2. Daniel Nermark

  3. Rune Holta

  4. Hans Andersen

  5. Troy Batchelor

  6. Davey Watt

  7. Ludvig Lindgren

Piraterna

  1. Linus Sundström

  2. Bjarne Pedersen

  3. Greg Hancock

  4. Anton Rosén

  5. Chris Holder

  6. Simon Gustafsson

  7. Fredrik Engman

Both Västervik and Piraterna lost the their season openers.

Västervik suffered a big hit away against Smederna, For Västervik only Batchelor and Davey Watt reached normal standard.

This week, both Kasprzak and Thörnblom have been replaced by Hans Andersen and Ludvig Lindgren.

Piraterna uses the same seven riders since Darcy Wards is still injured. I think Greg and Chris will continue to perform well but

if Piraterna is to have a chance at winning this meeting, Sundström, Rosén and Engman need to ride much better.

Race card: http://www.mediafire.com/view/d55ym57oz58bhq8/ES.2014.R2.Västervik-Piraterna.pdf

The the weather forecast looks ok, no rain is expected during tomorrow but still overcast weather.

Elit Vetlanda – Ikaros Smederna

Elit Vetlanda

  1. Leon Madsen

  2. Emil Sayfutdinov

  3. Jarek Hampel

  4. Thomas H Jonasson

  5. Tai Woffinden

  6. Magnus Karlsson

  7. Jacob Thorssell

Ikaros Smederna

  1. Peter Karlsson

  2. Grzegorz Zengota

  3. Grigorij Laguta

  4. Mikkel Michelsen

  5. Kenni Larsen

  6. Oliver Berntzon

  7. Magnus Zetterström

Elit Vetlanda suffered a surprise defeat last week and Emil have been moved to nr2 with Madsen at nr1.

Vetlanda's track is almost entirely about gating and Vetlanda is usually very good at it at their hometrack.

So I would be very surprised if Smederna would be even close at winning this one.

Indianerna – Rospiggarna.

Indianerna

  1. Fredrik Lindgren

  2. Cameron Woodward*

  3. Piotr Protasiewicz

  4. Antonio Lindbäck R/R

  5. Niels-Kristian Iversen

  6. Mikael Max*

  7. Joel Andersson*

R/R heats can only be taken by riders with *, one of the reserves will be allowed to take two R/R heats.

Rospiggarna

  1. Andreas Jonsson

  2. Jonas Davidsson

  3. Chris Harris

  4. Mads Korneliussen

  5. Grzegorz Walasekk

  6. Timo Lahti

  7. Kim Nilsson

Rospiggarna performed well last week when they defeated Vetlanda at home,

However Indianerna's track, Sannahed, is pretty much the opposite to Rospiggarnas track.

While Orionparken is short and right, Sannahed is long and wide.

I think Rospiggarna have a descent chance of winning due to the injuries for Indianerna but normally

Indianerna should be able to win this one but I think it will be tight.

Vargarna – Dackarna.

Vargarna

  1. Martin Vaculik

  2. Daniel Davidsson

  3. Peter Kildemand

  4. Artem Laguta

  5. Adrian Miedzinski

  6. Pontus Aspgren

  7. Ricky Kling

Dackarna

  1. Mikkel B Jensen

  2. Patryk Dudek R/R

  3. Nicki Pedersen

  4. Krzysztof Buczkowski

  5. Joonas Kylmäkorpi

  6. Robin Aspegren

  7. Dennis Andersson

This will be interesting and I think Vargarna are the favourites to win this one. Laguta, Vaculik and Miedzinski all rode very good

the past weekend and KIldemand is usually pretty good at Vargarna's track.

Dackarna still have MJJ out due to injury and Dackarna did not impress me last week against Indianerna so

I think that they might struggle against Vargarna especially since Vargarna's track is very shirt and twisty.

---

Also a brief explanation about the positioning if riders in the line-up.,

The riders with the two lowest floating/alternating averages will ride at reserve and the individual position of the reserves are free

so the team manager can choose him/herself which of the two riders that goes to nr6/7.

The team manager can then choose him/herself which of the five remaining riders goes to which position.

Normally the team managers changes the positions depending on if it is a home or away meeting.

This is due to how the heat schedule is designed in general and in particular heat 14 where the home team have nr 1 and 5 and the away team nr 3 and 5.

So the team manager for the home team usually puts his two best riders as nr1 and 5, while the away team's team manager for the home team usually puts

his two best riders as nr 3 and 5 so that the team's two best riders rides in heat 14.

Västervik – Piraterna #tv meeting

This week, both Kasprzak and Thörnblom have been replaced by Hans Andersen and Ludvig Lindgren.

Worth clarifying Kasprzak being replaced is due to his knee injury rather than a negative judgement of his form.

Thanks for that extra insight.
UPDATE: After putting the racecard together and in view of the above what's the likely thinking from the team manager behind the riding order of the Vastervik team for this match which doesn't follow the popular way of lining up?
  1. Peter Ljung

  2. Daniel Nermark

  3. Rune Holta

  4. Hans Andersen

  5. Troy Batchelor

  6. Davey Watt

  7. Ludvig Lindgren

Surely Andersen and Holta are the top two in the team? Ljung and Batchelor in positions 1 and 5 aren't as far as i'm aware the top duo. Do you know what kind of advantage the manager is striving for in this match, especially by placing Hans at number 4?

One question on the announcing of the teams, i've not got time to translate the Swedish Regs right now, do both teams give their team list to SVEMO without the other team being privvy to it? And also at the same time?

KK, Batchelor and Ljung are the best three riders, Batchelor have 1,662 and Ljung have 1,657. KK have a lower average but as you are aware he has started the season very well.

As for Holta and Hans neither have been particular good the past season. Not particular surprising regarding Holta since he have declined the past couple of season.

He had 1.557 at the end of 2011 but is now is down to 1.250 after last weeks meeting. I don't expect him to score more then 5-6 p/meeting at the most.

You can see the averages here: http://www.svemo.se/sv/Grenar/Speedway/Elitserien2014/Aktuellasnitt/

As for the line-ups, the away team registers at the latest at 20.00 two days before the meeting and the home team have to register at

the latest one hour later. I don't know if the home team's manager can see the other team's line-up but I am pretty sure they can,

so that he/she can adjust the line-up accordingly to the opponent.

Ah! hadn't imagined Batchelor and Ljung to be scoring better than Andersen, although on reflection not really a surprise that Holta hasn't been doing that well i suppose.

Noooo i can't bear to look at this growing trend for displaying average points per race lol. It's hard to get a meaningful grasp on differences between riders when you go to hundredths and thousandths of a point. IMO far better the traditional basis of multiplying up to an average four rides per meeting - even though most leagues have riders having five rides now. Everyone is used to saying a rider is a nine or nine and a half point rider. Will it really catch on (or become more comprehensible) and have fans referring to a rider is a 1.875 or 1.938 rider! That's not an an easy comparison to process.

With the inherent strong home advantage present in speedway i was hoping that the away teams would get to see the home teams line-up rather than the other way round.

Good to see no bad weather forecast for tomorrow.

I'm looking forward to today's meeting and some exciting racing. A couple of strong looking line-ups on show. Thanks for the preview Ghostwalker! :t:

I do love the little pen pictures of the matches it saves me having to read back through Speedway Star or various websites when i'm short of time. Nearly missed this match but just got home in time and nice to see the racecard doesn't need any changes made. Gee yet another tv broadcast this year starts off with riders checking out the wet track, hopefully we will be good to go.

UH OH TV just said it looks like it's cancelled Waaaaaah!

You should have spread some of that sunshine around Alan lol.

OMG he just said you can now listen to me and Sam commentating on the Best Pairs!

Ouch no Bet365 Elite League streaming tonight either. Oh Well catch some of you for our Danish fare tomorrow unless the rain clouds go in that direction, have a good evening all.

Was the track really that bad? Eastbourne would kill for a track that good :o

Most of the track was fine, but there was a problem with the bends which was said to be "Bottomless" for about 15-20m stretch on each.

Daniel Davidsson had a fall in his first heat and has been brought away with ambulance.

What are we gonna do now, no speedway racing tonight (at least live) and, more importantly for some, there is no commentary to pull apart. How we gonna cope, as again we focus on the less important part of the occasion - the commentators - while ignoring the reason we are all gathered here today - the event, a speedway match, called off when the track didn't even look bad.

Question: What's more important - commentary or getting the meeting on? For so long we have been willing to put up with second class preparartion from the so-called promoters, yet criticise anything else - like Sam Ermolenko and his mate Jack, the mic-men.
